Just took his splits from the video footage: His acceleration lap: after the 2'32 km at 8'05"15 he is 4m behind so 8'05"7 then 9'02"3 that is a 56"6 lap folks. Another checkpoint is 8'16"4 to 9'13"4 also showing 57" flat. He continues then to do 9'02"3 to 10'02"5 or 60"2. It is half way that lap we get the 58"38 split. So he did a 1'56"8 for 800m.
PS: I just compared this with John Ngugi's olympic final (see my comments there also): he did a 57"5 just two minutes into the race, and a 1'58 for 800m. Those two performances stand, as inspiration for front runners!

Of course there are older records, but they are most likely distances that are not recognized in a world wide manner anymore.

Daniel komen was easily the biggest talent runnings ever seen. His career ended very early unfortunately.
