Thank you for uploading . This is very useful information. Bought a -84 xj6 yesterday and realize now I did not try all functions of the vent system...
I have an 89 XJS with a III, the floor vents are hot, side vents like warm/cool. Is that normal? Face vent slider is on hot, and temp is on max heat. I want a toasty cabin. :(
very useful, thanks!! Do you have any info on the series 1 systems, are they similar? I'm going to pull my dash this winter to go thru wiring and hvac. Cheers
The Series 1 has a vastly different system than the Series 2 and 3 cars. I am trying to get some time to put together a video detailing the S1 system specifically. If these links work, they are from my shop where I've built and modified an S1 extensively for a customer, but it does show what the behind the dash looks like. facebook.com/pg/Jollywrenchers/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1919343311634318 facebook.com/pg/Jollywrenchers/photos/?tab=album&album_id=1525220434379943
I have filmed and photographed the box removal and overhaul. I am currently trying to put together the video (along with some better software for editing) and will notify you when they are posted.
If you select temperature at 65F and speed at low, where is the cold air supposed to be coming out from? In my case it is only blowing by the feet and not on the main vents which is a bit odd and I am wondering if this is normal or not?
air should come out the center and side vents because 65 degrees calls for a/c / cooling regardless of fan speed. Sounds like your amplifier is gone. The amplifier is located behind the radio, buried deep back there close to the firewall and held in place by a spring tongue bracket, a pita to remove and not worth removing. All you need to do in a Left Hand Drive XJ-6 Series 3, (1980-1987), is find the large cream color round connector with many thin wires on both sides and disconnect it. This connector is located behind the "knee" panel where the floor vent is, Driver's side. Remove the 2 screws at the plastic vent and pull the panel towards the accelerator pedal. Hide the connector and wiring that comes from behind the radio. Then connect the new amplifier to the receiving connector. There is room to push the new amplifier in there, then replace the panel and floor vent. Test system at 65 degrees with the MODE SWITCH in AUTO. Center vent should open as well as side vents. Heated air only comes out the floor vents and the side vents, never through the center vent. Good luck.
Although impressed by the presentation and knowledge, this video actually depresses me because I do not look forward to digging into my XJ6 to fix all the little annoying problems that pile onto the end of my to-do list before I even finish the first item on the list. The car is beautiful, rust-free and "appears" pristine, but it is just a can of worms to keep up with and I'm about to sell it at a loss just to have peace of mind.
I think many people feel your pain regarding repairing your jag. But remember, the devil is in the details. Sometimes you can luck out if it's a small climate control item that failed. He does mention most items are serviceable in the car which I believe is true
Good God , it looks like the whole of the dashboard and gearbox console has to come out to effect any repairs !!! My series 3 double six has a luke warm heater and its gonna stay that way . Luckily I also have a Humber Imperial that its heater works like an inferno and its only held in by 4 screws under the bonnet away from anything . In and out in 5 mins . and I used to think the series 3 was the best car in the world .

Just want to say thank you for making these videos. Excellent job! Can I ask you a couple of questions regarding the 94 xjs 4.0 HVAC?
Great video... Thanks! Any plans on doing the electronics video?

Thanks very much for that wealth of information.

zurdo z you are a genius my friend. I got to amplifier and changed it with a used one. Now the flow is how you said it should be
@@MS-lt2lx excellent ! glad it fixed the problem.
Thanks, this was really helpful. Pretty sure I have a bad heater valve.
You didn’t show the heater core or evaporator
