  • Therapist analyzes the lyrics of Break Stuff to by Limb Biskit to discuss the reality that people often use external destruction as a way to try to manage internal destruction and pain. The therapist encourages listeners to instead visualize themselves breaking down the internal things that get in the way of them reaching for healing.

    My plumber said he went to a Limp Bizkit concert back in the day that was at some kind of fair. The main food being sold was turkey legs. He said as soon as the chorus started there were turkey legs everywhere. In the air, all over people, just mass turkey chaos.

      100% earlier this year there was tons of politics and BS going on at my work and one of my coworkers who I thought I could trust threw me under the bus. I was so goddamn angry I really wanted to beat this guys ass. But metal music helped me cope especially the song king of the rats by bodysnatcher. Anyway about a month after this I was still angry and bitter and I went to see fit for a king which was hands down the most insane crowd I’ve ever been a part of and I was thinking about that guy while I was moshing and after that show I was 5x happier and that anger I was holding onto was gone. I was bruised and sore from head to toe for a week though 😂. Fit for a king shows are no joke!

      Fred got into it with a lot of people even though Em and Dre were in this video they had a minor blow off thing that caused issue, alot of ‘metal’ fans also just act like nu metal wasn’t worth anything. So even in the rock/metal world they get shit on. Just weird times they were never bad and this song is a great time.

    For me everyday is one of those days. I never want to get up because while I'm asleep there's no pain or fear, nobody is fussing or complaining, I'm not being tormented by painful memories, and I don't see the people i love struggle and i can't help them. While I'm asleep, I don't exist.

    • @HeartSupport
      @HeartSupport  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      From Micro: @Evo-nt6be Yes, sleeping can become a total negation of our existence - not having to be aware, not having to feel, not having to worry, not having to fear anything -, which appears to be such a relief at times. Especially when life seems to have nothing to offer you but constant survival and torment. It's not appealing to wake up to the same struggles you've known the day before, over and over, while feeling like having no control over it and no say on it. When you feel helpless in your own life, sleeping appears to be such a powerful and effective safe room. To quote lyrics from a Radiohead song: "I'm not here, this isn't happening", is the type of escape that sleeping promises you to have. You intentionally pull yourself away from everything that hurts and bring overwhelm.
      During times of deep depression, sleeping has personally been a huge outlet to me as well. There was a point when the emotional exhaustion would take over everything else and peak every day. Going to bed in the middle of the day was a way to feel like cleaning things up in my mind. Over time, it became a default coping mechanism, which came up with its share of issues as oversleeping takes a toll too. But the sensation of curling up in bed, under thick blankets, made me feel so safe each time. Somehow, and still to this day, when I do this and *choose* to sleep, it feels like I control time and make it pause. Which is so needed when it feels like life keeps on crushing you and throwing obstacles at you.
      Sleeping can be a safe way to cope, away to offer yourself rest, although it can turn out to be addictive in the long run too. To me there was a point when I had to force myself to choose to stay awake sometimes when the urge was hitting. It turned out to be a way to avoid life as a whole, and be somehow a trap where you exist but also not. It helps at the moment, and at the same time it doesn't make waking up easier. Somehow, the work that needs to happen has to take place *in* life itself, during times when we exist and choose to, even if it's really hard to muster the energy that is necessary to face our struggles. With little steps, little increments, and a lot of patience for our selves, it is possible to get to a place where sleep is a healhty outlet, and not an avoidance mechanism.
      Through all of this, my friend, you deserve so much to find your peace and to feel like regaining control over your life again. This world is better with you in it, and your existence makes a huge difference, even if you may not see it at times. There is more to this life than the adversity it brings, and there is more to *you* than being here without existing. There is beauty to seek all around, one that is worth getting up for and paying attention to. Could it start in the smallest things such as the taste of a great coffee, the smell of your favorite perfume, the sight of flowers blooming in spring, or the sensation of your heart when you put your hand on your chest. You have breath in your lungs my friend, and that is such a strong superpower that you hold inside, even during times when you are stuck in bed. :heart:

    I remember when the Nu Metal wave was at its peak around 1999-2000 I really started getting into bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit. But the only problem was my mom, who’s been a kindergartner teacher for years, didn’t want me buying those albums because of the Parental Advisory stickers on the covers, plus she didn’t like the raw energy in the music, she thought it was detrimental to my adolescent development. So finally after months of nagging she basically set me free.
    Then about a year later she came home from work and she was pissed off about a bunch of things that went wrong with her and her fellow teachers and she asked me to play Break Stuff for her because she said it would make her feel better. I was blown away.

    This is one of the main reasons I like listening to metal music and going to metal shows. It’s a huge release of negative energy for me. Earlier this year there was a lot of BS and politics going on at my job and one of my coworkers who I thought I could trust threw me under the bus and snitched on me to my boss. I honestly wanted to go over and beat his ass but one of the things that helped me cope with that anger was metal music. Plus about a month after the this happened I went and saw fit for a king which was by far the most intense insane mosh pit I’ve ever been a part of. While I was moshing at that show I was thinking about that person and work and after show I felt amazing and I was 5x happier. A great song for you to react to along the lines of intense anger is king of the rats by bodysnatcher

    listened to this song a lot when i was a teen whenever i was angry to let out my frustrations without actually breaking anything (did enough of that breaking console controllers) better about those things these days as an adult, but growing up staind, limp bizkit, korn, linkin park, everclear, among others hit almost everything i was goin through, not everything they sung about but enough to have that release in a non-destructive way

    I think this is most intelligent break down of a limp bizkit song ive ever seen lol. Most people only take a song from them and hear the surface level stuff which is bc its in your face. Especially this video bc it has all the big name cameos. If you didnt notice there was Snoop(you acknowledged that one), Dr. Dre, Eminem, Pauly Shore, Jonathon Davis (Korn)

    not related to the song but i used to have a hamster named Peepi from Inzader Zim. He would always find a way to escape his cage and would be found scratching inside the bathtub every morning where we'd find him.

    Hey ya’ll, don’t act like back in 2000 you weren’t bopping your head to this song and hitting a rage climax when the breakdown finishes with…”Break your f’kin face tonight!

    It IS preferable to be civil in expressing one's feelings. However, it's an easier said than done task in and of itself. The song itself can be a focus as a way to get to said civil place in your head. Sometimes, though, just breaking an inanimate object helps.

    This song is played when I'm in a really bad mod, and angry. Just the shear aggression that the song packs, and you can release your aggression when dancing around at home.
