- This is my attempt at re-creating Danny Carey’s iconic performance on Tool’s “Pneuma”.
The performance starts at 00:04:49
This is an incredibly challenging piece to cover for so many reasons You’ve got crazy compound odd-meters, tons of specific cues, unique electronic sounds, independence, endurance, precision- this song has it all.
I gave myself five takes to get this one and posted the best I could muster. Make no mistake: this took several weeks of practicing to even get it to this point. I suppose I should give myself a bit of a break though since it does take to years to write and rehearse these songs!
Please let me know how I did in the comments.
Thanks!!
Amazing playing. Love the drawings on the e-pads too.
Hard work always pays off.
Cool! I find using the trips Danny does on the hats/ride really useful when learning these long songs. When portnoy did pneuma on drumeo he stuck to quarters but if he had broken it up like, 1 - 2 - 123 - 223 - 1 - 123, it probably would have been easier for him. At least that’s how I think of parts I’m writing or playing. Had a buddy in the 90s(he’s still my buddy) that would nail the drum fills in sober but played the 123-0-123-0 part with straight notes… aggravated the hell out of me…
Awesome bro.
Outstanding 👏 👏
Nicely done
