It’s easy to overcapitalise a small farm. The older small and superseded equipment really helps with viability. Particularly if you can do much of the maintenance yourself.
A early New Holland 275A. Good balers, we have a late series 275A. It has been a trouble-free baler in the 15 years we've owned it. It does between 1500 - 2000 bales a year on 6 acres of land doing 3 cuts a year (we average 1800mm of rain a year in our part of Australia). We pull ours with either a David Brown 880 selectamatic or a 990 Selectamatic. I occasionally do some contract baling with it but with our SAME Dorado 85, it's a lot quicker on the road and registered and way more comfortable. I had an early Leyland Nuffield 344 was a good tractor.
I always enjoy hearing about someone who has had a good experience with Leyland tractors. The David Browns would be ideal for the 275 Baler with plenty of gear choice
If it weren’t for old equipment I don’t think the small farmer couldn’t exist anymore. I always enjoy your videos. Thank you
Hi, yes I think you are right. I couldn’t afford new equipment. I am glad you are enjoying the videos.
Thanks from Geoffrey
