    The animated creatures, in the beginning, are mythical Korean creatures called Dokkabei.
    They came to earth and transformed into Stray Kids, hence the blue floating flames.
    The story goes like this. The village is holding a talent competition. The Dokkabei decide to come to earth to participate. They are the Thunderous Ones (Sorrikun) They are loud and unapologetic about being so. They stick to their principles and will stand against whatever comes their way. In the end, they will be victorious because they ARE SORRIKUN
    The song is a diss track for haters. Their songs were called noisy and not well received in their home country of South Korea.

      It is also worth noting that they appear throughout history, each scene shift/fit change is a different point in time. They also utilise Korean instruments and traditional rap flows, this is an added clap back at haters basically saying that the noise you are complaining about is skz's twist on authentic Korean culture.

    • @TheBexrayspex
      @TheBexrayspex ปีที่แล้ว +13

      Given all this, it’s worth looking up the word “sorikkun” itself and pansori music. (I also kind of think there’s a pun in here with the “I’m not sorry -“ line!)

  • @deeception3096
    @deeception3096 ปีที่แล้ว +106

    Thunderous is based on the old Korean Pansori style of storytelling (Changbin's second verse is indicative of the performance style) as well as the reference to old fables of the goblins (the blue flames) known as dokkaebi. Additionally, the Korean title of this song (소리꾼) translates to "singer" as it relates to those storytellers in Pansori. The pun also exists because the literal translation is "noise master". The album this song is from is NoEasy (pronounce Noisy). This album was a clapback to the increasing complaints that they only create noise music. So they said in this song, not only are we noisy, we are Thunderous. There is a lot of sampling of traditional Korean instruments and use of the pentatonic scale.
    Edit: The black masks the cloaked figures wear in this song are also the masks on the walls in Miroh.

    • @NeonReactionsPierre
      @NeonReactionsPierre  ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Thank you... yes I did notice the pentatonic scale, it is always nice to hear it in "regular" music.

    • @Resistance_Is_Futile1of3
      @Resistance_Is_Futile1of3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      wow.. that a good catch about the masks. This storytelling style is so cool.

    • @GolyenHighway
      @GolyenHighway ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yeah. I was going to point that out about the masks as well. The ones in Miroh are a little more doberman like, and these are a bit more fleshed out. But they are similar enough. In Miroh they took the masks, but didn't use them. In Thunderous the masks are used by people who seem to be haters. In Miroh they seemed to take away the power of anonymity behind the masks, and In Thunderous the masks are used by people who seem to be trying to cause trouble but they run at the first sign of SKZ standing up to them. It is interesting parallels.

    The black figures in the video are haters. And the thunderous ones are fighting them off with the thunder ( with their music ) and their are making fun of them and telling them to look up on themselves…

  • @lisannegudegast5667
    @lisannegudegast5667 ปีที่แล้ว +46

    Thunderous is the title track of the album NoEasy (wordplay on Noisy). The album (and thunderous) was released after Gods Menu. A lot of haters said that StrayKids music is too loud, to noisy (heh) and so on, so they made this track to say "Yes, we are noisy, we are the thunder. We will say, what we have to say and you can't stop us". Their goal was to implement a lot of korean tradition into this song and this mv (the flute in the backrground is a tradiotional korean music instrument for example).
    The blue flames are a symbol for Dokkaebi, which are korean goblins. They possess extraordinary powers and they often wear hanbok.
    As another comment said: the black people are the haters, which kinda flee the scene at the end when changbin makes the thunder sounds.

    i read the others comments and realise that no one explaining about this one. in this song, skz became a 'Korean Goblins' that called 'Ddokkaebi'. They're a mythical being that hated but worshipped at the same time. they came with the winds, thunders, and the blue flames. that 'Ddokkaebi' is pictured as a red creatures ( hence the red outfit, thunder, and all in the mv). they're a creature that can defy time and places (that's why they're all over the places, being in ancient times but with modern costume an all). and the most important thing about Ddokkaebi is, they're considered as god by the people. they can be a good and loving creature toward people that good to them. but at the same time, they can be a bad, evil, and nightmares to the people that does something bad to them (i guess they hold a lot of grudges?)
    all about this ddokkaebi story can be a whole book if should written here. so i recommend you to learn in your own spare times. there is a good drama that have this whole ddokkaebi explained (Goblin: The lonely and great god), exclude the romance things in the drama and it good to go to learn about the ddokkaebi
    😌

    Very easy to miss,you will need to go frame by frame to see it, but the end of the first chorus to where Hyunjin is sitting in the chair and closes the book. The picture in the book is a drawing of Felix from the previous scene before it. Only one reactor I've seen has caught that. It's one of those little nuggets that get missed.

And it's true that all their songs are different, none of them looks like the other, but at the same time they are the same in that they have something that surprises you and that's great. • @tiffasauruz

    Another reaction so soon, we love to see it! I hope this song prepares you well for the upcoming A2K episode!
    The blue flames in the MV are indicative of “goblin fire” - in Korean folklore/mythology, goblins are known to have supernatural and extraordinary abilities, much like our SKZ I’d say! I believe the attribution of goblins is partially related to the NOEASY (the title of this album that Thunderous comes from) trailer, wherein the SKZ boys are gearing up to fight a “sound monster” - and that’s another story in and of itself!
    In any case, Thunderous was a cultural reset for me. The outfits, the choreo, and the instruments were all so ambitious but perfectly Stray Kids-esque to me!
    A little background: the title of the album is NOEASY, a play on words to be read aloud as “NOISY”. This is SKZ truly embracing their sound and their reputation in the industry; if the haters are going to label them as “noise makers” (more emphasized in another song in this album, “CHEESE”) then SKZ will proudly be just that and rightfully claim themselves as “masters of sound” (which can be taken as the meaning from the Korean title of Thunderous, 소리꾼/sorikkun/“singer”)!
    I hope that is a good bit of insight into this song, sorry if my thoughts were all over! Thanks for another great reaction & I’m looking forward to the next one!

    Thanks for your reaction! I really hope you check out some dance practices soon, because SKZ are such dynamic performers !! Also skz dance relays are chaotic and amazing 😂
    Thunderous is such a cool and unique song, it was part of the NOEASY (NOISY) album which was kind of a clap back against critics who called their work noise/construction music.
    The korean title 'sorikkun' has a double meaning, referring to both haters/naggers ('jansorikkun') as well as a singer in traditional korean storytelling 'pansori'. In that second verse (where you mentioned the lower flute melody) Changbin's rap flow is actually in the cadence/style of pansori.
    The song is just so unapologetically SKZ and i love it so much!!
    Maniac and case 143 next?? 🙏🙏

    The original name of the song in Korean is meant to be goblins, spirits in ancient folklore. But they translated it as Thunderous. The blue flames represent the Surikun (spirits). The dark creatures are the haters Skz have in the industry and world, so when Chan (red hair) hits and you see tbe wobble effect is when he shakes the earth with his coming, so you can see right after, the dark creatures run away. The boys chose to use lots of traditional instruments, thus, the traditional elements like the drawing of the mountains in the beginning or the dancers in the end.

      As far as I know, the blue flames represent korean Goblins or something like that. I'm really not knowledigable enough about korean Folklore.
      The masked guys always represented the villains they were singing about in my mind. Also there is a song named Wolfgang on the same album, so they could represent wolfes.
      Sorikun, doesn't mean just Thunderous. Sorikun is the name of those guys, that went from town to town in the oldern days & told Storys by singing & and playing this big drum.
      So they basicly saying, that they are not just the loud (noise music) Kpop group (sorry=Sori means being loud, cause a lot auf antifans call them that), but they are also storytellers.
