- One of the best feelings in football is hitting a great long ball. But to drive a pass in the air 60+ yards you need to adopt a technique known as the 'Ping'. This full tutorial will show you how top players do exactly that to spray balls across the pitch effortlessly!
Pogba's long passing/ping is therapeutic man, so smooth and accurate.
Agreed, Pogba one of best in the world for a Ping!

This is a fantastic video. As a coach, one of the best I have seen on explaining this technique. So many other videos show people doing amazing passes but don't break it down: "so you want to kick at the bottom and try to make an awesome pass!". or "just do what I'm doing". You show the full mechanics (body position, arms, follow through) and those details are the difference between being able to ping with 40% consistency and 80% consistency.
Thank you for this feedback and taking the time to write. I’m glad it can help 👍
I wholeheartedly agree! This is the single best explanation of how to ping I've seen on YT-and I've seen so many videos.
Amazing tutorial thanks for the help
Thank you very much for this tutorial. It is much more detailed and informative than many videos out there which have million of views. Keep up the good work!!
Hello Ly Xuong, thank you for the feedback and I hope the content helps you and others that is the goal 👍
This video’s explanation is well done! Excellent one mate
Thank you Ahmed for the feedback 👍
nice hopefully my long passing improves putting in a lot of work this summer
Hi Jean, thanks and let me know how it goes! Practice is everything, plenty of repetition.
Goodluck
Best explanation of how to ping on TH-cam
All those muppets that keep talking about how football players are getting overpaid should watch this video to see how much work it takes to play at the highest level. And this is just 1 out of 1000's of techniques they need.
Hi Johan, you are spot on correct 🤛 They say it takes 10,000 hours to be an expert in a specific field. Top players deserve what they get as they put in the hours and people want to pay to see what they can do. It’s not their fault there’s lots of money in what they practiced from 4 years old!
@@WantTheBall Yup, and not to forget the kind of consistent physique it takes to do all this stuff. Your legs need to be as flexible as a rubber band while being as hard as steel. Not to mention all that weight going on the standing foot, etc.. And maintaining stamina For 90 minutes... For an entire year, twice in a week. I play 10 minutes in my local 5 a team futsal pitch and I'm already knackered.
You have got to be fit and able to perform over 90 minutes that is for sure!
thank you so much man!!!!
Pleasure.
Good tutorial will try and tell the results.
Thanks
Thank you Simbu, please do!
Great tutorial. At the pro level, you'll often see players, often defenders and goalkeepers, achieve long distance and pace using a technique that looks like a long chip. They'll drive the ball using almost no follow-through. I guess they call this "clipping" the ball.
David Alaba is exceptional at this.
Lampard was very good at a clipped pass.

You guys deserve more subs! This was a good tutorial! Thanks, and I subbed!
Thanks Fahad for the support!
Appreciate it 🙏
thank you for this awesome vid. I had no idea about ping before, all I knew long pass is always long ball with a bit left/right curve which is very different compared to ping. I just noticed how backspin in ping help our team mate to receive the ball way easier, and it will drive the ball goes straight without any left/right curve
Thanks for this feedback 👍
fantastic tutorial
Thank you David for the feedback
Thank you very much. I will practice.

Thank you for your feedback and support!
Fantastic video Sir 👏👏
Hi, thank you and your feedback is much appreciated.
I like watching football but never play. Now at 39years of age, I found a small 7player/small field Sunday league. Now I am addicted to playing football. I have trying to figure out how to do long passes and I have watch many videos about it and still I am having difficulty. Thank you for the very detail video and explain how and why you want to have your body a certain way. As a engineer I like having as much detail as possible and this video is short but the detail is awesome and specially all the slow motion as well.
Thank you for the amazing feedback. I am glad you appreciate the detail in the videos. Attention to detail as a coach is very important to me. I hope to impart as much of my knowledge as I can on TH-cam.
Nice vid!!
Thank you!
If you approach at the proper angle and your weight drive straight through the center of the ball, then you should be perfectly balanced after the follow through. You should not fall to one side or other.
Hi Tamas, thanks for your insight. I believe when you are having to bring the kicking leg with such swing out to the side (if you look at van dijk in the thumbnail image for reference) to get the right contact you need to be leaning to one side to allow this to happen and therefore as he shows, you will be using the arms to keep your balance.
Nice vid mate keep it up
Thank you for the kind words 👊
Awesome!! Do you connect with the hard raised bone part of foot??
Hi yes this is correct, as the foot comes down on the ball at the angle the raised bone part makes the contact.
Super video
Thank you 👊
Cool
Thank you 😁

solid video wow
Thank you for the feedback 👊
@@WantTheBall subscribed immediately. For me I was always trying to strike under the ball with foot next to the ball not a bit infront, thanks
Excellency
Thank you!
I have a question, when you are swinging, do you drive straight through or swing down to the ball?
Depends if you want more loft or if you want the ball to stay flatter and lower so it 'fizzes' across the field quicker to the desired destination. If you want this then yes drive straight through the ball middle to slightly below middle. If you want to play long with height then you will need an element of loft and this is achieved with the ping by come down on the ball and as long as the angle of your foot is correct like I show in video the ball flight will rise.
Can you do a shooting technique tutorial
Hi Corey, thanks for your message. I have just filmed content for two videos coming soon. One is how to finish with inside of foot and the other is how to shoot with power so this will be good if you want shooting technique tutorial. I hope to have one up today and the other next week 👍
Thanks I always struggle to kick long and accurate
Hi Zakaria, I am pleased to be of assistance 👊
Nice Cleats
Thank you 😁
Nice bro come u can do it all the trick .... U will achieve the goal in TH-cam
Thanks for the feedback Bala 👍
I’m going insane. I either completely ground it, hit it with my toe, don’t generate enough power, or curve it into narnia. Or I’ll manage to combine all of them. I’ll be putting in a lot of effort this summer so hopefully I’ll get it.
Hi thanks for the feedback, always good to hear from players. The key to this technique is definitely repetition - it’s all muscle memory and having the correct feel for the ball. Once you master it it won’t leave you. But the key is practicing the correct technique. If you have another player you can work with then you should hit to each other over distance. If not, I strongly recommend getting at least 8-12 balls so you can hit yourself and make efficient use of time.
Slow down. Don't worry about kicking it far at first. Just go real slow through the motions to work on your form. Then gradually speed up.
The toe should not hit the ground if you point it outward as per the video.
Thanks for the help, both of you.
@@sn0storm you're welcome
Focus on technique first, practice a softer ping just 20 or 30 yards then increase once you got it. Good luck
how to shoot with power and accuracy both with laces and instep next please ..
Thanks for feedback. This is being filmed in coming days I have a great young GK coming in 👍
@@WantTheBall Thanks man🙌🙌🙌
The technique explained here is more like “driven ball”, But not ping? What is difference between these two techniques? Thanks
Hi, thanks for your question. It is one that is coming up a fair bit. In answer and in my opinion there isn’t really much difference between a ‘ping’ and a low driven pass if any at all. Potentially players may see a ping as more flat like at 3:15 of the video. This is because you have contacted closer to the middle of the ball to keep it lower rather than ‘sweeped’ underneath it. So I guess it’s more of a ‘ping’ connection on the ball.
@@WantTheBall I see, thanks!
Goalkeepers do it the best 🥰🥵
Goalkeepers love a ping!
I'm here just to do'it like the magician ziyech
😄😄😄
You said planting foot, chest and shoulders pointing towards the target. But what about hips? (Same I presume?)
Hi there, great question! Yes hips should be pointing towards the target upon contact of the ball like shoulders and chest 👍
@@WantTheBall ok thanks!
J'apprécie ta vidéo , comment je vous contacter ?
Merci Beaucoup. 🤝😁 Contact: tom@wtbtraining.com
In what part do you hit the ball?
Just below middle centre line but not too far from middle.
great video, but could you please lower the music volume next time? Thank you very much.
Thank you for feedback and of course!
I can do it with my right foot but can’t do it with my weaker left foot 😂
This would be the case for most players including myself!
I absolutely suck at this...I can literally do everything else in football
Hi Sherjeel, the ping is hard to master but you’ll get there with the practice 👍
Ping it like Toni Kroos.
Kroos arguably one of the best Pingers in the game.
@@WantTheBall can't disagree 🔥🔥🔥
never heard ofa ping
I can ping the ball pretty good, with good power and height, but my problem is that the ball always curves, how do I shoot it straight with backspin
Hi George, there is only one way a ball will curve in flight and that is if it is rotating horizontally. The only way this can happen is if contact is made on the balls’ side rather than dead in the centre. To ping the ball straight with backspin you need to hit the centre of the ball and slight underneath the middle part. Your foot needs to come down on the ball to create backspin rather than scoop underneath. This might feel unorthodox at first but you need to keep practicing it. I’ll do another video soon on ball flight and backspin as I’m often asked about this.
@@WantTheBall ok thanks, I will subscribe to you!
my biggest issue is my arms and followthrough
All about the practice and getting the muscle memory. It’s great that you are aware though if what needs work this is the key to improve 👊
it's a month of practice..
How to pass by cycle like Dani Alves 😅
😁👌
