Went to number 2 in uk 1979, other hits that followed the following year…angel eyes, over you, oh yeah, same old scene…..later on came jealous guy, more than this and….avalon………slave to love is ferry on his own
I'm not sure how this got into a list of guilty pleasures. There isn't anything they did to feel guilty abut listening too. Some of the best musicians in rock history.
"Dance Away" is a song by the English rock band Roxy Music. Released in April 1979, it was the second single to be taken from their album Manifesto, and became one of the band's most famous songs, reaching number 2 in the UK and spending a total of 14 weeks on the charts, the longest chart residency of a Roxy Music single. Although it did not make number 1, it became the ninth biggest selling single in the UK in 1979.[4] It did make it to number 1 on the Irish Singles Chart and held that position for one week.
It was great to see your reaction to my all time favourite band and singer Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music. I've been to see him perform live three times and met him once for a chat. Super cool guy very down to earth in real life and quite shy. When you mentioned movies, you'd be right..Roxy's hit "More Than This" featured in at least one movie...and Bryan did do a movie credits track for a Hollywood movie called Legend I think (Is Your Love Strong Enough).
Ferry's dreamy tale of heartbreak, is strengthened by shimmering guitar lines and punctuated by rattlesnake castanets. The song's potent hook; "you're dressed to kill and guess who's dying?". They simply don't write lines like that any more.
I was force fed Roxy Music from an early age my sister was one of their biggest fans and played their music daily in our bedroom growing up. When you look at the other music groups from that time Slade Gary Glitter etc Roxy Music were different very cool and were successful in the UK.
Looked this earlier reaction up after watching your more recent one for "Slave to Love." Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry solo can run hot and cold, but there are some other standout tracks worth sampling - "Virginia Plain," "Love is the Drug," "Same Old Scene," and "More Than This" off my head.
Hi Angela Roxy Music shouldn't be on anyone's guilty pleasures list! Even though this particular track isn't one of my favourites their back catalogue is amazing Virginia Plain, Over You, Oh Yeah!, More Than This, and one that will definitely have you reaching for the tissues is their tribute to John Lennon is a cover of "Jealous Guy" All the best Jim, Surrey, England X
Roxy Music was an English band. Their six studio albums of the 70s went Gold, while the two in the 80s went Platinum. The final one, Avalon (1982), was a very good album. It peaked at #1 in the UK, Australia, and New Zealand, but only #53 in the U.S. I always felt that their music fit well with the new romantic sounds of the 80s. Bryan Ferry released some good music as a solo artist, after the band split up.
@Jangle, Ferry and Roxy Music were also an inspiration for Chic, most notably Nile Rodgers. Nile was thrilled when he got to Work with Ferry many years later.
Love the avant garde glam rock from early Roxy - ie. Virginia Plain, Editions of You but also the covers from Ferry - Dylans's A Hard Rain's A-Gonna Fall and the old standard - These Foolish Things, esp. that stylish video.
That Era's sound and styles were HUGE influences on New Wave's New Romantic movement....Duran Duran being the most noteable. (John Taylor went on to say thatt"without Roxy Music...There would be NO Duran Duran!".
Bryan Ferry was offered "Don't You Forget About Me' from the Breakfast Club soundtrack but turned it down because he was in the middle of recording an album. It was then offered to Billy Idol who also turned it down.
Bill Murray and Scarlet Johansson did the Roxy Music song "More Than This" a-la karaoke in the movie "Lost in Translation" If your brave check out their album "Country Life" one of Roxy's best albums from the 70's✳
much prefered "same old scene" (more upbeat) or "oh yeah" from this same album. other great songs to try: "love is the drug", "more than this", and from bryan ferry's solo work, "slave to love". roxy music is fantastic!
I made it though the 70's and 80's without ever hearing of this band or song. I don't know where they're from, but I don't think they were big in the US.
Love is the Drug was a Top 10 hit in the US in the late 70s. Bryan Ferry was doing the thin white duke thing before Bowie. Bryan also was the guy Mick Jagger stole Jerry Hall away from. Met at a party. She went off with Mick.
They are from the City which has just recently become the richest Sports Club in the World by the length of The Atlantic Ocean: NEWCASTLE United Football Club who has just been bought by The Saudi Oil Barons and is worth 360 BILLION Pounds. It's in THe Northernmost part of England, just below Scotland, and they had many hits back then in The UK. Good Luck :)
Roxy Music was not just songs it was a outlook/attitude . You had to have been a young adult in the 70’s and early 80’s you miss the context of this if you missed out on that great time.
#DayOneReacts ... The Rhythm of this song remember me of different song... But who ever wrote the Verse is not the same guy or gal that worked the chorus and hook for this song... LOL Curious....
'More than this ' is a much better song and I know you're a romantic at heart, so go and watch Lost in Translation and you'll see why, greetings from Australia
dont give up after one song, this was second version Roxy with a more polished commercial sound, check their early stuff, "Editions of You" and "Out of the Blue" from early seventies. (apart from the voice you wont think it is the same band)
"You're dressed to kill, and guess who's dying". Another great lyric
"Loneliness is a crowded room, Full of open hearts turned to stone, All together all alone"
Killer line
underrated for his lyrics man
Girl, your channel is fire! Roxy Music is one of the top 70s bands, totally love them
Saw them in manchester last night...bryan ferry is 77 yrs young..they were bloody awesome..i had a few tears in my eyes not ashamed to say...
Roxy Music can never be a guilty pleasure 😊
Ferry plays with it a lot ha
Exactly.
Thank you for reacting to Dance Away. You are the only person on here who reacted to it so far. It is one of my favourite songs.
Never heard this song in my life, but I really like “More Than This” and “Slave To Love” by them.
Whole Roxy Music really worth listening. And their live albums are jewels
Went to number 2 in uk 1979, other hits that followed the following year…angel eyes, over you, oh yeah, same old scene…..later on came jealous guy, more than this and….avalon………slave to love is ferry on his own
One of their best
This is one of my all time favorite songs, thanks for posting!

"Loneliness is a crowded room, full of open hearts all turned to stone. All together, all alone." Damn, that lyric will always sting.
Ferry's dreamy tale of heartbreak, is strengthened by shimmering guitar lines and punctuated by rattlesnake castanets.

I love Roxy music. Avalon is my fave from them
I was force fed Roxy Music from an early age my sister was one of their biggest fans and played their music daily in our bedroom growing up. When you look at the other music groups from that time Slade Gary Glitter etc Roxy Music were different very cool and were successful in the UK.
Their song “more than this” is stunningly beautiful
Roxy Music’s Slave to Love is so sensual and great to listen to

You’re correct in your assessment…the song definitely has that 80’s feel to go along with those 80’s movies you mentioned…
Try ROXY MUSIC: "Love Is The Drug" and "More Than This"
Don't stop the dance

Don’t Stop the Dance….is a favourite of mine by Ferry on his own
Roxy Music are a great 80s band. Check out Virginia Plain.
From 1972.
@@650Max yep roxy was better in the 70's with brian eno in the band, they then became the brian ferry band not roxy music.

React to " slave to love " by Bryan Ferry ( lead singer of
Roxy music ) .
Roxy Music-'More Than This'
Search TH-cam for Bryan Ferry (singer) live in Lyon. You will enjoy it.
AWESOME SONG !!!
Bill Murray and Scarlet Johansson did the Roxy Music song "More Than This" a-la karaoke in the movie "Lost in Translation" If your brave check out their album "Country Life" one of Roxy's best albums from the 70's✳
More Than This
Both Ends Burning
Mid80s the Thompson Twins did Hold Me Now
Stole bits of this I reckon.
Mike and the mechanics all I need is a miracle
I love some of their lead singer's solo songs. Try "Kiss and Tell" by Bryan Ferry.
much prefered "same old scene" (more upbeat) or "oh yeah" from this same album. other great songs to try: "love is the drug", "more than this", and from bryan ferry's solo work, "slave to love".
roxy music is fantastic!
Can't believe somebody has a guilty pleasure song that I've never heard in my entire life!
Hold me now, by the Thomson Twins
Request: Roxy Musicis Avalon
This is their signature song from the album Avalon
Nice
Great song. I have Angel Eyes signed by Paul Carrack.
Did you listen to the lyrics? It's a heartbreaker.
I’m not young.. and I know a LOT of music- never heard of this in my life- 🤷🏻♀️
Number 2 uk in 79, but only 44 in usa
Good song, but I like Bryan Ferry's solo project song titled Don't Stop The Music! I Got The Music In Me by Kee Kee Dee!
think you might mean "Dont stop the Dance"?
ROXY MUSIC☆MY ONLY LOVE☆SAME OLD SCENE
I made it though the 70's and 80's without ever hearing of this band or song. I don't know where they're from, but I don't think they were big in the US.

Your loss.Great band.Had multiple hits.

Bryan Ferry the coolest man alive
Roxy Music was not just songs it was a outlook/attitude . You had to have been a young adult in the 70’s and early 80’s you miss the context of this if you missed out on that great time.
No it's a great song
Try Avalon or jealous guy, maybe Don't stop the dance
😁✌️👍🇬🇧🙏
This is not the best introduction to Brian Ferry/Roxy Music… Avalon, More than This, Slave to Love, Don’t Stop the Dance all are better IMO.
BrYan!, and early Roxy is much better than all those.
💩 . Great song.
💂please listen to Dan Hartman " instant replay /relight my fire/vertigo/ this is it
You'll love it
She's clueless 😂 amazing song. The original guitarist Phil Manzanera messaged me the other day! great bloke
C 07 - 12 - 23
#DayOneReacts ... The Rhythm of this song remember me of different song... But who ever wrote the Verse is not the same guy or gal that worked the chorus and hook for this song... LOL Curious....
What a load of 💩 😂
you look like you are not impressed
'More than this ' is a much better song and I know you're a romantic at heart, so go and watch Lost in Translation and you'll see why, greetings from Australia
I think it's a little too deep for you
She doesn't appreciate real music. Probably likes soulless music like Eminem or Swift.
Roxy music just isnt roxy music without Eno, its basical the brain ferry band.
😂😂😂😂 💩
Brian Ferry has a great saloon voice, but when Brian Eno left the band they lost their soul, very mediocar music, pop band.
Bull 💩
I like Roxy music.. I like Brian Ferry.. I don’t like this song.. I’m glad I never heard it before I heard their other music…
😂
Not my taste in music and I have never heard of this song, a little to slow with not enough pop to it.
Great song
I’ll pass…
dont give up after one song, this was second version Roxy with a more polished commercial sound, check their early stuff, "Editions of You" and "Out of the Blue" from early seventies. (apart from the voice you wont think it is the same band)
1979.
