When I was a kid it was because long hair was a more grown up style, yet another thing girls were told was too mature for them. Depended on the ethnicity, though. Some areas of the world think short hair is too grown up and little girls should have long hair 🤷♀️
My mum took it upon myself to go to a hairdressers down the road and cut my kids hair off. I went in and flipped. He knew she was mine so I said unless I bring her in don’t you dare touch my kids hair. I went sick at that stupid birch too.
Welcome to the Generation of the Offended. Seems like some people think being offended by things and trying to impose their personal taste on others makes them superior.
It's crazy that the too long for a child statement is typically made about black girls and coming from black women. Yet the same women will fawn over the long hair of another type of child. This comment section gives me hope that we are growing out of putting additional constraints on our children or negatively labeling them when they are only doing the same as children of another race/ethnicity. I love seeing moms like this who move off their daughters joy and happiness instead of cultural bias.
🤔🤔🤔 I disagree. I really don't care what people do with their children, but I feel the "too long for a child" comment is directed toward any child of any race when extensions are added. 🤷🏾♀️
@@curlybeautyblogger my niece is Hispanic and she’s about 8. She has her moms hair which is 3a . Very loose curls. But she seems to have slow hair growth like her mom who’s hair didn’t grow mid back until her teens.. Her mom did the box braids on her but did them mid back. And my comment to her was “I’m glad you didn’t do then long pass her butt like North West”. So I agree with your comment. 😂
@@curlybeautyblogger @CurlyBeautyBlogger I've literally never heard (in person or secondhand) a black woman say that a white, east asian, or indian girl's hair is too long, extensions or not. Majority of the time they will automatically assume the hair grows out of the head of the other child, but question a black child with naturally long hair and assume it's not theirs. While it may not be what you've noticed, nearly 100% of my female relatives and black friends grew up with constraints (put in place by black women) around how their hair could be styled based on if it was "too grown" or not. The only exceptions are my mixed friend with non-black moms/aunties.
@@srlittle9538 It is my experience that when people see long extensions on a little girl they say so...whether the child is black, white, east asian or indian. Questioning if the hair is fake or real based on the child's race is a different topic...obvious extensions get the comment. We also can't pretend that we don't see extensions more often on black and brown girls. 🤷🏾♀️ Sometimes constraints are a good thing. Not everything is for children...no matter the race.
Being of mixed Polynesian heritage, my hair was to my knees (natural length as a kid) as was my daughter and all 4 of my sons. So I don't see anything wrong with her wearing this length. It's beautiful❤, and when she's tired of it, it'll come down easily.
Yeah and it’s really only in the black community that mothers and fathers will see a little black girls hair as “too grown” or “too long” or “color is too grown” and it’s really weird because they will see people with a different hair texture and they have long hair the black families will say the kid has good hair. Like what is good hair. Saying that is basically stepping your own child that their hair isint good enough because it’s kinky. They will lift up big bouncy curls or straight hair but when the curls are too tight for their liking then it’s a problem and they will destroy their own child’s beauty by relaxing their hair to make it straight. Black hair is beautiful and I wish that all black people would see that. But I love that in this generation black people are embracing their beauty and their hair and not caring what others think
My sisters would say crap like "that's too long", "that's too colorful", "that's too blah blah blah." She pulled the "that's too long for you" card after she did my hair for middle school one day. I'm up in the mirror admiring the weave that almost touches my butt and she straight up cut it right in half. *My hair was naturally that long,* the weave just made it look thicker while it was straight. I was so *depressed.* I didn't have time to take out all the hair glue before school so I had to go out with this solid chop line and static hairs sticking up everywhere.. Any confidence that style would have given me just straight up wilted, and it ruined _any_ confidence I had before it too, lol. I take the weave down after school and my natural hair looks just like it. I hated her so much for that, I couldn't even. That's the first bit of jealousy I have stored in my cognitive memory. I couldn't wear her earrings with the hair either. "They were too grown for me" when she was only a grade higher. When my hair curled up after the crappy chop job it actually looked pretty good. "The mother" comes along and scrapes my hair into this tiny ass ponytail every morning because we couldn't wear fros without looking like "ragamuffins." The same woman who had short hair and wanted it to grow so badly. Perm and Puff Ball was all she spoke. It was a natural girl's worst nightmare in that place. (Bonus Story: I had this time where my hair was so dry from "The Mother's" neglect (she didn't want me to tend to my own hair tho 🙄) so I tried to sneak and comb my hairs with water.. she comes in and tells me to stop wetting my hair because I'm not a chia pet.) 💀 My experiences growing up with insecure black women, in _and_ out of school: Anything that makes you look or feel good is too old or too young for you. There's nothing that should make you feel good about yourself in this whole god-damned world. You won't hear anything like it from any other people, I swear. No other families have this hair issue where a young girl could have "too long" hair. Sure, there's parents who give their girls bobs, but it's nothing like what *we* do. We're always worried about what other people think and say about our kids that we make them live in such an uncomfortable, expressionless environment. I hate us for that. I honestly do.
I'm so sorry your family was so un supportive. As a white woman I can't imagine all the work that goes into your hair but when it requires so much main and energy I think you should do what makes you feel happy. Life is hard enough. I had different problems but I had jealous older sisters too and they constantly beat me down and over criticized me until my self confidence was nothing.
I am so sorry you didn't have women in your life to uplift and support you, no child deserves that. You are beautiful and your hair is beautiful I hope you found healing and love in your life as an adult.
@@LyraPyxisVT We were a fighting family as well. 😅 Sometimes you just wanna sit sad and disrespected somewhere than start a brawl for the tenth time that week.
I've always thought a good rule of thumb regardless of hair type, is if kiddo can look after their hair at an appropriate level, and parents have the time and/or finances to support their child's haircare where required, then there's nothing wrong with changing things up (be it length, style, colour, or whatever else!). And it strikes me in particular given how long your daughter has to sit while you do her hair like this, that she likely has a lot of respect instilled in her for the time and maintenance required, especially given she asked for it. Looks so good!
I never associate length with being "too grown" when it comes to little kids. My only concern is safety because some kids with longer braids I've seen have had their braids caught in doors and on other objects😓. One little girl was running, and her braid got caught on the playground when she jumped off, and the entire braid ripped out😢. That's my only thought when I see younger active kids with really long hair and braids. 💕But this style turned out beautifully! And it's not as long as I've seen on some kids. I've seen some to their ankles.
I swear I had to check to see if you were one of the teachers at my school. One of my prek students had this exact thing happen to her and her mom accused of us lying. Girl it was the craziest thing I’ve ever seen in my life
I was in a bus accident when I was a kid. My loose hair got caught in the seat when we got lurched forward ripping out most of the hair behind my left ear. I had a huge bald patch that entire summer. My mom and I were not happy with the lack of summer ponytails to keep me cool. The things us girls risk for looks! 😢
I've never heard someone have to defend the length of their child's hair. Why do people think they have the right to be upset about your child? People out here are wild. I think it looks beautiful, you did a wonderful job.
@@shelleygaither8410 my mom used to complain about my best friend’s hair length…it was past her bum and curly, she still wears it like that as an adult. Her mom spent hours braiding her hair so it was manageable during the summer. My mom just cut my hair like a boy’s haircut because she didn’t know what to do with curly hair (she and my mom both had long straight hair). And we’re all white. I think people have the same judgements all around, no matter the race. Partially because there are horror stories of people getting braids ripped out in accidents and partially because they don’t have the time or money to spend on it so they’re jealous of those who can. It’s the same way people sometimes talk about very athletic people, especially competitive child athletes. Their own children could never live up to that, but is it healthy for a child to be raised like that?
Maybe not have yo defend their daughters length, butvI'm sure there are parents defending their son sons hair that is not close enough to bald. I figure, if a girl can wear short pixies or buzz, boys can have hair that covers their necks.
Well *sigh* smh 🤦🏽♀️ see but we're not talking about the NATURAL length of a child's hair. These styles are with hair that must be ADDED to the child's hair which is naturally a shorter length, kinkier texture, darker color etc NATURALLY 👀 So what is the point of letting a preteen have hair so long it sits in her booty crack? 🤔🤔🤔 Likeee.... Lol it's unnecessary. It's as unnecessary as putting tube tops, booty shorts, high heel slides and purses on a two year old 🥴🤣🤣
@@MelenaSoleil Well it seems like tube tops, booty shorts, and high heels are typically sexualized items. Is it your opinion that long braided hairstyles (specifically the type seen most in the Black community) are also sexual?
As an old white North- European woman I don't know why this came into my feed but it was good to watch. My mom just cut my hair very short so it would not be a hassle combing. Very well done.
Apart from when I had my hair cut short in 1977 when I left home at the age of eighteen I have always had long hair. I cut my hair as a rebellion because my mum wouldn’t let me have short hair. Within a couple of weeks I regretted it, people thing long hair is hard work, I found the opposite to be true. If I am having a bah hair day I simply tie it up. I am now 64 and my hair is currently just shy of waist length as it’s due a cut. I get lots of compliments because it’s wavy and streaked with white and grey, but I also get people saying I’m to old to have long hair. What always astounds me has that people believe it’s okay to tell me how to wear my hair🤷🏼♀️
This style is too cute!! 🥰 This video dropped just in time. My 13 yr old daughter watched the video with me, and wants me to do her hair exactly like this. My daughter had very long hair, so I always had to make her braids longer. It’s nothing wrong with your daughter having long hair. My daughter was begging me to do a peekaboo dyed pink. I finally agreed to dye her hair for her. I don’t think long hair will make them “fast.” Long hair shouldn’t change a thing. They were more than likely “fast” from the get go, if that’s the case.
Lmaooo that part 😂 yes a little color not gon hurt nothing 😂😂 happy you’re gonna give her these braids, she’s loving them and I’m loving mine as well!!
So much to love here. I love the energy of watching a mom love her daughter with this intensity. For me, there is something so healing about being able to love my daughter at a level that I did not receive, myself. It’s like the prayer of St. Francis: “it is in giving of ourselves that we receive.” I believe that people who say “too long” “too colorful” dare I say, “too pretty” - those people feel an inner resentment related to something they feel they did not get, but wanted as a child. In order to make their experience okay within themselves, they want others to be denied. I will also comment as a mom to a 13 year old girl. Your daughter is obviously an adored angel. And that is what God wants for her and for you. ❤
Oooor 👀 they're concerned about pedophilic predatory eyes on their baby girls. What need does a young child who doesn't NATURALLY have long hair, colorful hair, curly textured hair etc have to add those things to themselves at such a young age? And why would we encourage them to think they would even need to AT SUCH A YOUNG AGE? It's as unnecessary as putting tube tops and purses on toddlers like come on! 🤦🏽♀️ Doing their NATURAL hair and making it look pretty is fine. But adding all that length and other stuff is excessive and unnecessary for a CHILD. Now once they are a bit older and can start caring for their own hair and have developed their own personal style, can pick out their own clothes and they know what they like and don't like etc THEN I think it's fine to let them experiment. But think of it this way, would you let an eleven year old child wear a lace front wig with a length that reaches the crack of her booty? 👀👀 If not then why is something like this any different? 🤔
No such thing as hair that’s too long, in my opinion. My daughter naturally has hair grown long enough to sit on, so a little longer than shown here. She’s 10, and has only had one real haircut - just small trims occasionally. Our deal is she can do whatever she wants with her hair as long as she cares for it properly. Your daughter’s hair looks great!
Thank you for this video I was in tears watching this, to see the pure love here and the mother/daughter bonding 💜💜💜 it took me right back to my childhood with my own mom. When I was little I had long beautiful hair that went past my butt. It was my mom's pride and joy, she loved to sit and brush it every morning and night. We really bonded during those times and it was an opportunity for me to experience the true love and care my mom had for me. When I was 9 my dad married my step mother and my parents were going through a really nasty custody battle. At the first opportunity, my step mother cut all my hair off all the way to my ears.. I had never cried so hard... she's a nasty woman and she "didn't have the time to take care of my hair" I was 9 years old and could take care of it myself and she knew that, I knew how to use the detangler and a brush. My mom made sure she taught me how to care for it on my own for the times I would be at my dad's. But my step mother was jealous of my mom and she knew how much it would hurt her to see her baby's hair cut to her ears. When my mom picked me up that weekend I got the haircut, she took one look at me and flew into a rage. My step mother smirked at her so my mom punched her in the face. She ran into the house like a coward and locked the door but that door wasn't about to stop my mom, she picked up a brick from the garden, the front door was glass and she smashed it in with the brick and chased my step mother around the house. I think the most my step mother was expecting was to make my mom cry, but she found out who my mom was that day... she put a restraining order on my mom and for the next 6 years took immense pleasure in doing any and everything she could to break me down and make me cry. I started calling her a witch to her face because I swear that woman THRIVED off my tears.. I ended up leaving at 15. She completely destroyed my relationship with my dad for sport. It was fun for her. To this day we can't stand eachother and I'm 31 now. But seeing you put so much time and love into caring for your daughters hair and seeing the two of you bond, and you building a strong foundation for your daughter by helping to build her confidence and teach her that she is beautiful and how much you love her really reminded me of those times with my own mom and I thank you for that. I will cherish those memories with my mom for the rest of my life, and your daughter will too 💜💜
I could watch you do that forever. It’s like one of those calming painting videos or cake decorating, that kind of vibe? You’re soooo talented I’m subscribing right now
TIL that people, for some reason, negatively judge children for hair length?? She looks beautiful with her braids and I love how confident her smile is! You did such a great job. She looks like a princess and I bet all her friends will be jealous! It’s so sad that you have to defend the character of a middle schooler, a literal preteen CHILD, just for trying out hairstyles like all of us did as kids.
*I am a hairstylist and I was doing a blonde hair color on someone. I had some left so🤷🏽♀️ I didn’t think it was wrong to put the rest on my 7 year olds hair!😂😂😂 I definitely bought pics that year and it’s hanging on the wall at my mom’s house. I say if the mom doesn’t say it’s too long then it’s not too long. In black culture we don’t get to wear our hair down until EASTER (I’m hella busy this week😂) or another holiday. I always wondered why. Anyway why can’t our girls wear their hair however they like? The fear they’ll be “fast” is the reason These braids are gorgeous❤* *She’s 23 and thinks it’s funny because I won’t put color on it now😆*
Yeah I don’t think hair makes kids fast. People know the kids they got, they should do what makes them comfortable and stop judging parents that choose differently!
My daughter had hair to her knees until she was a teen. I loved it. Now it’s short. I grow my hair long to hopefully irritate my mother. She always cut my hair in a pixie or permed my straight hair so I would look like my sisters. Any person I see with long hair, I always compliment them on their beautiful hair. I’m jealous. Watching your work is fascinating, skilled, and shows exemplary talent! 💙
This video was right on time. I am doing my niece's hair this weekend so now I know how to lay it out. I think this turned out so beautiful - And not too long for her! Thanks!
How can anyone think length of hair has anything to do with age????? I've seen little Asian babies with hair past their waist! Beautiful job this is so 😍 & you are amazingly talented I wish my parts were that neat even when just parting it down the middle for only two braids or buns etc lol🤣🤦♀️
If anything women's hair is worn shorter as they age. Adult women with long hair are told they look childish. There's no winning when it comes to others judging your appearance so just do you
Child, I could watch you part and braid hair allllll day and night long. It's so soothing to watch along with listening to you explain what you're doing. Idc if you doing straight backs with stitches, I can watch you do that, too! I just love your work! Absolutely phenomenal!!!!😍😍🥰🥰💋❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥 Btw: absolutely LOVED the outcome of your daughter's hair! I think the length suits her very well. Younger people are attracted to length and it looks just fine on your daughter as well. She's absolutely STUNNING!🩷🩷😍😍😘😘😘
Wowwww. Thank you love, yes she’s pretty tall for her age as well so it fits. But thanks for the support, my heart is so full when I read messages like yours! 🫶🏾🥰
I pray your daughter never has to waste a minute of her life wondering what other people think about her hair. (I know the world we live in, but I can still pray right?) This look is so pretty and seems very practical for a kid (especially at preventing the knots that long hair gets so easily). Wishing you both an amazing 2024 with many blessings & happy memories!!💌
Yeah, whitie here, but i do find the whole adultification/sexualisation of young black girls to be deeply troubling. I guess long hair could be seen as adult because it takes time to grow out it out? But if so that should apply to white girls too… idc, its a no good situation eitherway.
There’s my girl! Duchess, you did a Great job 👏🏾 . I love the style and it looks beautiful on her. I don’t think it’s too long at all. Keep up the good work!!!🥰❤️🥰
She is 11 now, she was feeling super cute with that style ... wow the time flies been watching your channel for a long time..geesh. Anywho I braid also and I call it for me the weight factor, not a sexualization like some people would suggest. If the hair is strong enough then lighter braids can be longer and a heavier braiding style shorter braids, not trying to break necks...lol, I can remember doing my hair when I was younger in Janet's Poetic Justice braids with 13 packs of hair and woosh when you took those out you felt like your heard was missing because those braids were so heavy..lol
I am simply amazed at how fast you can braid! I know that the video was sped up for the sake of time but I can tell you are very talented. He hair came out beautiful! I honestly don't think it's too long. As long as you are ok helping her take care of it, I see no issue. Your daughter is beautiful and she looks very happy with her hair!
I love seeing parents respect their children's choices and giving them bodily autonomy. (Genuinely) I have kids who deal with a lot of judgement and very real safety issues for various reasons and any time I'm concerned about something they want to do or wear having a negative impact when they go out in public, be it that it'll attract judgement from adults or could put them in an unsafe situation or it's culturally appropriative, etc... I explain it to them and let them factor that into their own decision-making. That way they get their own control over their body and I'm not telling them what to do, but they can also learn from the information I have and they usually make really good choices with that information! Also this hairstyle is so beautiful and she looks so happy with it - I love it!
Her hair is gorgeous. If she is willing to upkeep it more power to her! Thanks for showing her a way, it can be so difficult for certain hair types but you're doing awesome.
Her hair came out so pretty ithere is nothing wrong with the length I can't stand when people talk about its to grown so if her hair was natural that long you wouldn't have a problem with it oh please I love the way it came out
What a beautiful smile your daughter has! I bet y'all are gonna look so cute at the beach wearing the same style! Beautiful job Mom! Really enjoyed your content.
I had no idea people put those kinds of connotations on long hair... I think the style is very sweet and youthful especially when she puts them up in a half pony at the end. Hair is so important to autonomy and it's one of the few relatively consequence free means of expression. You can tell she feels good and that's what matters.
What is it anyone else's concern how long or short anyone else's hair is? It's their hair and should be able to do with it what they want! Why does everyone have to be critical about others; if we all were nicer to each other how awesome that would be. I've never seen such a love between mother and daughter as this. I too could watch your videos a lot, very calming.
Your baby is almost 11 and even though her hair would typically be considered too long for her age, it has the wavy pieces that help soften the look, so it works. Any style should be age appropriate. Just the same as them getting their nails done or wearing makeup. Back in my day (I'm 34), my nails had to be short, like an eighth of an inch past the nail bed until I was around age 16, and I could only wear lip gloss until 16 and then I could add lip liner!
OMG it turned out so darn pretty!!! I love the end the way she had little mini ponytail on top....really great style on her and what a wonderful mother you are....i remember going to the hair salon with my mom when i was in elementary school and i loved it, she would gossip with her hair lady and i would look through hair style books and magazines and then OMG SHE LET ME A 7 YEAR OLD LOL GET A SPIRAL CURL PERM.....We didn't have a ton of money growing up so looking back and even then i knew that it was a really big splurge for my mom to have paid for that....a mother's love, nothing like it. 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
“Age appropriate” length makes no sense. When my child was 6, her hair was at her butt. When I added hair for a protective style it would be past her natural length. It’s really only a debate for young Black girls (people just look for any reason to strip childhood & innocence from Black children). Long hair is associated with health, youth, beauty & cleanliness & we’ve been brainwashed to think our girls aren’t any of those things unless they can attach a negative stereotype to it. I hope the younger generation let’s all of this go.
Isn't it amazing how some people will find anything they can to say you're a bad parent? She likes it, it causes her no harm whatsoever. Good for you guys!
Her hair came out beautifully and look at that smile at the end. I dont think hair changes ur childs personality. If they have a tendency to be fast it wont matter what style their hair is in. Ur doing a great job with ur daughter and thats all that matters
Gifted Hands always SLAYING ❤❤❤❤ your daughter is so pretty and I agree with you about the length not only that it’s your child so no one should be saying anything
Listen for those of us who have hair down past our bums, we all know the pit falls of having long hair. The worst is when your on the toilet….. no one talks about what you have to do when your on the toilet and you gotta move all your hair around, wrapping it around your neck so it doesn’t get caught up in your wiping your bum. But I do love my long hair. And I applaud this momma for letting her child have her say on her hair. I have pics of my childhood I’ve hidden for most of my life. When my children have to go through them after I’m dead, at least I won’t be around to hear the laughing. My momma was no hair stylist, but it didn’t stop her from giving me the ugliest bowl cut. If only she let my hair grow long she’d had seen how pretty my hair was. She loves it long and hopes I never cut it.
Once I heard a boy saying " look, her hair is very long" while pointing at me, he was around 4 or 5, I was a teen, I thought it was cute. Then his mum said "yes, it's very long, and if she ever runs out of toilet paper, she can use her hair" Thanks madam, thanks...
Not only is this style beautiful but it also comes with a few accommodations for the both of you like neither of you will have to comb her hair everyday and as long as the natural is properly cared for and maintained it'll continue to get longer & longer
My problem with that statement is that they never say it about any other race with long hair. It’s only directed at black girls. What is so wrong with us having long hair at a young age and straightening it or putting in long braids, etc? If black girls had naturally straight waist length hair like their white counterparts, would they still say the same? If hair is all it takes for u to see black girls as “grown”, that’s disturbing. It just shows how ppl subconsciously don’t really see little black girls as children & disregard their “innocence”. It’s either out hair or our bodies they have a problem with, and it comes from our own ppl. This is a much deeper topic but that’s for another day

(Bonus Story: I had this time where my hair was so dry from "The Mother's" neglect (she didn't want me to tend to my own hair tho 🙄) so I tried to sneak and comb my hairs with water.. she comes in and tells me to stop wetting my hair because I'm not a chia pet.) 💀
My experiences growing up with insecure black women, in _and_ out of school: Anything that makes you look or feel good is too old or too young for you.
I'm so sorry you had to go through that! I hope you have been healed, from that and your are happy and doing great ! Stay positive!
Much love,
Sophia
I'm so sorry your family was so un supportive. As a white woman I can't imagine all the work that goes into your hair but when it requires so much main and energy I think you should do what makes you feel happy. Life is hard enough.
I had different problems but I had jealous older sisters too and they constantly beat me down and over criticized me until my self confidence was nothing.
I am so sorry you didn't have women in your life to uplift and support you, no child deserves that. You are beautiful and your hair is beautiful I hope you found healing and love in your life as an adult.
I would've cut all her hair off and say you deserved that, I'm a very petty person, they would've hated me
@@LyraPyxisVT We were a fighting family as well.
Safety is the issue here. God forbid it gets caught in something and causes injury.
As a former cosmetologist, I say length should be equal to the persons ability to care for it.
i’m sorry but the way i imagined that braid ripping😭😂 that probably hurt so bad 😔
I've never heard someone have to defend the length of their child's hair. Why do people think they have the right to be upset about your child? People out here are wild. I think it looks beautiful, you did a wonderful job.
Because the world wants to constantly control the actions, looks, dress and speech of black women, mothers and girls.
You're daughter is growing up so lovely Her hair is growing so fast and beautiful as well. Keep up the great work.
Thank you so much 🤗 she is but she still my baby girl!
@@Sofasurfa I agree
This style is too cute!! 🥰 This video dropped just in time. My 13 yr old daughter watched the video with me, and wants me to do her hair exactly like this. My daughter had very long hair, so I always had to make her braids longer. It’s nothing wrong with your daughter having long hair. My daughter was begging me to do a peekaboo dyed pink. I finally agreed to dye her hair for her. I don’t think long hair will make them “fast.” Long hair shouldn’t change a thing. They were more than likely “fast” from the get go, if that’s the case.
Lmaooo that part 😂 yes a little color not gon hurt nothing 😂😂 happy you’re gonna give her these braids, she’s loving them and I’m loving mine as well!!
omg her posing at the end, she’s so cute, you can really tell that she’s happy with it ❤️
This is stunning and I don’t think it’s too long. Very age appropriate if you ask me!
Thanks love 🙌🏾
Super cute. ❤
I let my daughter get her hair long and she loves color. 🤷🏾♀️ it's just hair. She gets "kid friendly " styles so I guess it balances out.
I don’t know why color is often frowned upon for the kids. Even their dolls are wearing color, so we can’t blame them for wanting it.
❤❤
Same my daughter 8& asked for pink hair she got braided set with pink hair lol
@@DuchessBraidsright? Let them have some fun with it!
So much to love here. I love the energy of watching a mom love her daughter with this intensity. For me, there is something so healing about being able to love my daughter at a level that I did not receive, myself. It’s like the prayer of St. Francis: “it is in giving of ourselves that we receive.”
I believe that people who say “too long” “too colorful” dare I say, “too pretty” - those people feel an inner resentment related to something they feel they did not get, but wanted as a child.
What a beautiful comment! 💕
The fear they’ll be “fast” is the reason These braids are gorgeous❤*
*She’s 23 and thinks it’s funny because I won’t put color on it now😆*
Yeah I don’t think hair makes kids fast. People know the kids they got, they should do what makes them comfortable and stop judging parents that choose differently!

💯
My daughter had hair to her knees until she was a teen. I loved it. Now it’s short. I grow my hair long to hopefully irritate my mother. She always cut my hair in a pixie or permed my straight hair so I would look like my sisters. Any person I see with long hair, I always compliment them on their beautiful hair. I’m jealous.
Watching your work is fascinating, skilled, and shows exemplary talent! 💙
The style is actually so cute and really age-appropriate. Especially the size… it’s very manageable for a tween.
I used to ask for long braids when I was small, I learned to be conscious of it when exiting doors or using the rest room by the time I was 6.
This video was right on time. I am doing my niece's hair this weekend so now I know how to lay it out. I think this turned out so beautiful - And not too long for her! Thanks!
Her hair looks amazing! You did such a great job with her braids! Kudos to her for having the patience to sit through the hours of braiding!
There's no winning when it comes to others judging your appearance so just do you
I agree. Those parts are amazing!!! What skills you have! 😃
Your girls are blessed to have a mother like you who does fantastic hair styles
So cute! Mom puts a lot of work into her baby's hair, and it shows. I hope she loves it!
Child, I could watch you part and braid hair allllll day and night long. It's so soothing to watch along with listening to you explain what you're doing. Idc if you doing straight backs with stitches, I can watch you do that, too! I just love your work! Absolutely phenomenal!!!!😍😍🥰🥰💋❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥
Btw: absolutely LOVED the outcome of your daughter's hair!
@Duchess Braids
The fact that people seem to only associate hair length with “being too grown” for only black girls specifically is highly disturbing.
Yeah, whitie here, but i do find the whole adultification/sexualisation of young black girls to be deeply troubling. I guess long hair could be seen as adult because it takes time to grow out it out? But if so that should apply to white girls too… idc, its a no good situation eitherway.
She looks so adorable and happy and confident! You did a fantastic job, mama. :)
There’s my girl! Duchess, you did a Great job 👏🏾 . I love the style and it looks beautiful on her. I don’t think it’s too long at all. Keep up the good work!!!🥰❤️🥰
Thank you so much 🤗 I tell her she need to show her face more cause it’s really her ya’ll come to see 😂😂😂 her videos always go crazy!
That turned out fantastic. Looks wonderful on her
Thank you so much!
Absolutely beautiful! I love that she wanted you to twin with her. You could tell how much she loved it!
Look at that smile! Your daughter is absolutely beautiful. ❤
I love when you part the hair so carefully.. It makes me sleepy.. So relaxing
This is so cool. The half ponytail makes this hairstyle so fun.
You are an artist! Your daughter’s smile says it all. 🫶
I love this style on her she has grown so much 😩🥰
She is 11 now, she was feeling super cute with that style ... wow the time flies been watching your channel for a long time..geesh.
That’s a great way to measure it love. I love that. These braids were lightweight but I will definitely incorporate that from now on! Thank You! 🫶🏾
Lmao Ms..B I had those braids too but guuurl the relief I felt when I took them out lol
13 packs???? Good lord I can feel the heaviness just reading this. 😂😂
@TanishaJeannelle yes indeed we didn't know nothing about splitting a pack of hair or tapering back then...lol
This is so pretty! And your daughter looks happy and confident.
It looks great and she’s happy and confident wearing it. People need to stop sexualizing children.
I think it's PERFECT for her!!! End of a school year and into summer!!! Preteen, enjoy the young years. She's gorgeous!!!
I love seeing parents respect their children's choices and giving them bodily autonomy. (Genuinely)
I have kids who deal with a lot of judgement and very real safety issues for various reasons and any time I'm concerned about something they want to do or wear having a negative impact when they go out in public, be it that it'll attract judgement from adults or could put them in an unsafe situation or it's culturally appropriative, etc...
Very nice, that’s how they are wearing them now and as long as you keep her dressed like a child I’m cool with the long braids
Baggy pants and t-shirts is her thing. Lol
It looks so cute!!! The parting on the braids is just so satisfying.
She is adorable! Love her smile at the end of the video!
Wow...that hairstyle is STUNNING! You are amazing! I trust your daughter loves and appreciates your talent
She look so cute!! I love the curls. I really love the half up half down. Beautiful work as always.
You did an amazing job! She looks so happy and the hair is gorgeous! Can't imagine people hating on a child.
She already has long hair so the braids can’t be short! 💜

It still looks kid friendly on her. I love it it's not over the top. Besides all these grown people wear beads. Girl you did that ❤❤❤
That is a lot of work, gotta admire this style so much more.
She looks so happy! What little girl doesn't wish for long hair. It's beautiful, good job mama.
Isn't it amazing how some people will find anything they can to say you're a bad parent? She likes it, it causes her no harm whatsoever. Good for you guys!
Wow, wow, wow!! Absolutely gorgeous!
Oh my goodness she looks adorable!!! I love this for her!
This hairstyle is gorgeous! 😍
Her hair came out beautifully and look at that smile at the end. I dont think hair changes ur childs personality. If they have a tendency to be fast it wont matter what style their hair is in. Ur doing a great job with ur daughter and thats all that matters
I agree! Thank You!
The look on her face says it all…lovely…I had two girls so I know that look!
Right! As soon as I was done I noticed it!

Watching this was amazing. I love the color of her hair!
So beautiful!! Thanks for sharing! She looks so happy with it!
Then his mum said "yes, it's very long, and if she ever runs out of toilet paper, she can use her hair"
Thanks madam, thanks...
Not only is this style beautiful but it also comes with a few accommodations for the both of you like neither of you will have to comb her hair everyday and as long as the natural is properly cared for and maintained it'll continue to get longer & longer
That’s beautiful! Definitely not too long and you can see how happy she is with it. I know nothing about braiding but I loved watching.
What a beautiful girl. How lucky she is to have a master stylist for a mom!
She’s beautiful and I love the hair style.
I really like this style. Very pretty.
Hey Duchess another great video and audio amazing hair done baby girl really is growing up beautifully. Thanks for sharing
Thank you so much 🤗
My problem with that statement is that they never say it about any other race with long hair. This is a much deeper topic but that’s for another day
Absolutely adorable. That’s just incredible!
This is beautiful and even for her age. I like it!
It looks amazing on her! You did a great job
You have very talented hands, and her hair is gorgeous.
