    Remote Wild Camping Scotland | Beinn Ghlas | 3F UL LanShan 2 Pro
    On this wild camping trip, me and GazTheExplorer decided to do some summit camping up Beinn Ghlas. The trek started well until we arrived at the steep bit! I stupidly wore trousers on a very warm day and had to take many breaks on the way up. One in particular I genuinely felt like collapsing... but as soon as my body cooled, I strolled all the way to the top whilst fighting against flying ants - who are more intolerable than midges! We finally reached out destination around 5pm and our summit camp began! Today, I introduced a new addition to the team: the 3F UL LanShan 2 Pro review! It's a brief review as it was my first outing in it, but I plan to do another in-depth one soon. Wild camping on a mountain is by far the most peaceful experience, an absolute bliss with the stunning views and an eerie, quiet atmosphere with rogue sheep. It was a warm night, a fantastic sleep, and I had the privilege of waking up to a cloud inversion for the 1st time! Another fantastic wild camping in the highlands of Scotland!
    Look after yourselves, and again, thanks for the kind messages regarding my health x

    • @lomino6478
      @lomino6478 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is a great tent, very spacious, very light and packs down very small. As far as condensation, I think it's down to conditions, it's just that being semi single skinned you more easily come into contact with it. If its not too windy you can pitch it a bit higher to help with ventilation. I find gradual small adjustments when pitching you can usually get it pretty spot on.

    • @MontyOutdoors
      @MontyOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lomino6478 I couldn't believe how compact the thing was! Even the 2 man one! But I'm sure I'll fall in love with it. But thank you for the advice mate. I've no idea what the height was but I may have it back out in the next videos!

      Talking of seam sealing, a bit controversial, I used clear builders silicone sealant, diluted with white spirit. Using the supplied syringe it went on perfectly, and hasn't leaked 😊👍I say controversial because some people insist you need the very expensive stuff in a tiny tube 🙄nah!

    Hi Monty! Fabulous location, even if it nearly broke you getting up there 😁 That cloud inversion in the morning was something special! Liked the pasta with chili sauce idea. I might borrow that one👍 I very nearly went for a Lanshan 1 Pro as a lighter backpacking tent, but as you saw, I've opted for that DD Superlight. All the best and take care👍👍

    • @MontyOutdoors
      @MontyOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I have the legs of a 60 year old, mate. Have you had a cloud inversion before as that was my first. And I would advise against the chilli sauce as it burst and went all over my bag, sleeping bag, mat and other equipment lol. Just as well, because the condensation on it is brutal!
      Cheers for popping by and supporting the channel. Legend!

    • @DesGreene
      @DesGreene 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MontyOutdoors Never as perfect an inversion as that, I don't think! I guess most single skin tents will get a fair bit of condensation. At least the DD has plenty of ventilation. But I wouldn't fancy using a down sleeping bag in it! Those little sachets of stir fry chilli sauce might be a safer bet to carry. ÀTB👍

    • @MontyOutdoors

      He's got the Hilleberg Enan. And it's a neat skill to teach yourself, but there's the fear you've did something wrong lol. I have the Lanshan Pro 1 and I got my mate to seam seal that. I liked the Lanshan Pro 2. Great headroom and space for 1 person, very lightweight. Condensation issues and a threat in the wind though.

  • @Tsamados
    @Tsamados 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Looks like you had a great camp despite the flying ants! That Lanshan tent looks pretty good, I'm guessing it's pretty light as it has no poles! Did they supply it for you to review or did you purchase it?
    Craghoppers used to do trousers where you could unzip the legs to turn them into shorts. They might be worth getting for hot days?

    • @MontyOutdoors
      @MontyOutdoors  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I was given it to review and promote and I had to use Gaz' trekking poles as mines are broke haha. Early review is not the greatest, but I need to seam seal it and test it in the rain. The condensation in it is the world's worst. It's a fun and spacious tent, but it so far has several nuisances.
      I use thermals on warmer days, but for some stupid reason I decided to wear trousers!

      It was just weird with the single skin Lanshan. Two ventilation ports at the top and it's a drafty tent, so there shouldn't have been any, but the odd drop kept hitting my face. Maybe the cloud inversion/temp difference had something to do with it, but it was just so damp.

    The flying ants further up are the ants on the ground from further down. They fly around in swarms and show up on radars like a big rain cloud. They'll have bumped into the hill just like real clouds do, they don't live that high up ordinarily. Great vid and views. I too struggle with the heat, i'd have been shorts and tap aff with a water filter so I didn't need to carry much. It's tricky pitching the Lanshan. It took me about 10 times before I got it right. That crease you show in the side. Pulling the right tent stake out and repositioning it and pulling the cord to tighten will help. It's for sure a tricky tent to pitch. I seamed sealed mine, I guess they don't to save costs and keep the tent cheap to purchase. I agree it's not a great tent for windy conditions. That sunset could cure anything that ails you, so stunning. So cool to see wild sheep, we don't have too many of those where I live, they are mostly on the west coast.
