I needed to see the light, literally, and upgraded the old halogen headlights in Project SportRunner to modern HID projectors. It was a fun, but involved project.
Here are the parts and tools needed:
HID Retrofit Kit (Got mine from www.theretrofitsource.com)
Second set of headlights/marker lights (optional but HIGHLY recommended if cost effective for your application)
I added the butyl glue for headlight reassembly, but didn't need it. It's cheap so I'd have some on hand just in case.
Wax and grease remover, primer, paint, and clear for buckets/shrouds. I used Duplicolor products.
Red scuff pads
Weatherpak connectors (optional but highly recommended)
Work gloves
Razor knife
Putty knife
Scissors
Oven
Block of un-pressure treated wood
Plastic bags
Ratchets/sockets/wrenches in at least 8mm, 10mm, and 12mm
Flat head and philips screw drivers
Painter's tape
Acetone
Drill and 1/16 and 1/4 or step drill bits
Rubber gromets 1/4" size
Mesh and corrugated wire loom
Heat shrink
Plenty of zip ties
Self drilling stainless screws #12 x 3/4"
JB Kwik epoxy
Needle nose and wire cutters
Plastic clamps (optional but help)
Silver and black Sharpie markers or equivalent
Patience

I bet Mrs. Speedy raised hell about the smell of paint in her oven!
Love your videos. I clicked on your build list unfortunately the links don’t work :(.. I saw it says mini d2s 4.0
I think they’ve discontinued the product. Any chance you’ve posted your full build list on a forum or something ?
Sgtausy from t4r here. Killing me with the 2 episode's lol! I wish I had the electronic know how to do this. And the garage........
It's really NOT hard at all.....the garage, well, let's just say I ate a lot of ramen to make it happen, but WELL worth it :)
i did the apollo 3 housing and had to cut the bottom off cuz it wouldnt fit. Still look nice because people cant see the cut. The light beam though- 🤗🤗🤗🤗
Aftermarket is always a better choice for this do to being cheaper but also they do not use the same type of glue, so they are easier to get apart. You could have either used Rock Auto or if you have a local LKQ/Keystone you could have went there.
Bro. Am really keen on getting those on my Toyota surf but am not too sure what to get.Can you give me a list
I think it's in the description.
How much did it end up costing you? So far I’m $180 with amazon products , morimoto must of cost you an arm/leg
I don't remember but don't remember it being what I consider expensive. I think I put links in the description for all the parts.
Can you please post the link for the exact retrofit parts you used on this series...
When will part #2 be up?!
it's up: th-cam.com/video/WGjkp2IlmZs/w-d-xo.html&lc=UgxsFl8Oq1dkrF1AzYF4AaABAg
Part 3 for the final installment will be next Saturday at the latest.
hi
Awsome video. Great detail.
How have this brand headlights held up over the last 2 years?
Great. No problems.
@@SpeedysGarage awesome! I am doing one in the next two weeks but with the MLED 2.0
@@SpeedysGarage you have any issues with hiring? I'm trying to get mine to turn on. I'm getting full 14v with car running at the car side connector and they won't turn on. I can take them over to my tacoma and they fire right up no issues.
damn thats some work... saw these done like this in tacomaworld. wish i could buy a pair
You should've tell your wife I'm cooking BBQ CHICKEN 😂
Really nice work. Did you disable the DRL in your vehicle? I was looking into doing a simple LED bulb swap (taking care to be sure my beam pattern would be okay) but read that the voltage is reduced to 6v in DRL mode and most LEDs won't work on 6V. Thanks for your great videos.
Checked your website and saw your DRL mod :)
On this HID conversion, the DRL did still work, but I'd still disable it :)
Found this via t4r.org Excellent how-to!
She looks pissed😡
Woah it's still playing.
99-02 are the same bud.
Why didn't you show how you hook up the projector to which wire.
Not sure what you're asking about. I did this a few years ago now but the projector just plugged in to the factory harness I believe.
@@SpeedysGarage I just bought some. No plug n play.
Your channel is exceptional!! Your projects inspire me to get out in my garage.
no links?
I like how you're going for perfection every little things. Great job!!
Is this the 2.5 HID lens or the 3''?
It's the square lens, I believe there was only one size available at the time I ordered.
