Thank you! 3rd video, finally someone who's actually installing a live axle instead of selling crap, telling life stories or cracking stale jokes with shaky camera angles! Thank you Big Red!!
I have a go cart with the same one wheel setup . The breaks are a band type drum mounted on drive wheel they suck as well as the poor traction as you know . Been wanting to upgrade . with your help I;m going to do it as soon as the weather cools . Its mid July now will wait till September . Thank you for taking the time to post . George
Not picking, just make sure those welds aren’t surface welds. They look a bit like caterpillars. Turn the heat up Red. Just an observation from a terrible angle. I could be quite wrong.
Red Beard, you video made it very clear to understand how to install the live axle kit. I was curious on how to do it and you made it to where a newbie (such as myself) can do it easily. Thanks alot.
Just bought an old F.W. & Associates go kart with a Dodge van body on it, it has a very similar dead axle/one wheel peel setup on it. Been scratching my head thinking about how to convert it to live axle without effecting ride height and wheelbase, and also move the engine and seat back a few inches as I don't fit very well in it as-is. I like your solution of extending the frame behind the axle with square tubing, and boxing it in with the engine plate and flat stock. I will likely implement a similar design on my kart, though I will have to add a kick-up or step in the frame to keep the ride height where I want it. My only concern is that such a small, lightweight kart will not like to steer with a live axle. We'll see.
I've got a 10hp Briggs that has an odd crank. It's tapered at the end, but I was able to cut the flat area for a keyway and I have a centrifugal clutch on it now. It has enough flat area to mount it. About an inch of the tapered part sticks out of the clutch. Only thing holding me back from getting a torque converter kit is whether it's gonna fit. I've got access to a machine shop if I have to cut that crank end off.
Keep up the great work! I had a little tip for strengthening butt joints, Make a sleeve that fits tight INSIDE the tube about 3 or four inches on each side of the joint. Drill a couple holes in the parent stock and you can (tack) weld the inner sleeve in place. It won't take much, just a couple spots to hold it in place. Then run a bead around your joint as normal. Don't forget to bevel your edges on butt joints! Happy welding and karting! PS: I am not gonna be the safety police but please consider wearing a helmet on the karts without a cage, I only ask because I like your videos and hope to see more from you guys in the future! Team RBG!
I got him a yard cart which the axle is bad so I'm putting a 1-in with new sprocket drum hub etc but I like to have wider rear tires what with tire do you currently use I like the way it looks
Hey red beard. I am getting back into dirt kart racing. I am reassembling my kart now and I’m running into a problem with the rear axle placement. I don’t know how all of this chat works but I was hoping I could speak with you about this. I watch your channel all the time and I love the way you do things. Thank you
It works good with that setup i have a obe wheel peel kart with a built Honda gx160 on it makes about 8 or 7 hp i didn't go to crazy stock cam with a way longer duration thinner head gasket ported the head just got to drill the jet on the carb
Hello i have the same gear you have but i don’t want to use a key, i rather use a bolt and i see drill wholes in the gear to secure it. Do you kow the bolt size i need for it?
You like the kart even more now dont'cha? haha. I know it made me happy when I did Live Axle for drifting, acceleration, and hillclimbing purposes.. How did you do the gps overlay, that is neat. Must be plugged in to the camera. Would you be interested to see my "turbocharging the kart" videos? I also will have .380 high lift camshaft testing. It's on my new channel that i have been working hard on the editing.
I have a question. I have a bent sprocket and I’m trying to get the axle off but I can’t get the callers off the bearing on the axle it’s like stuck to it so idk what to do
Hi good evening what was the total amount of money you end up spending on the live axle and can you post a description of the exact same one you installed
Great videos my biggest hang up on my build its finding the right tires set up whether it is going with a 1" live axle tire ignoring the 3/4" end live axle or going with 3/4" ID tires and just using live axle hubs to hold the tires. Any advice or recommended buys are appreciated Thank You
Hey, enjoyed your video, I am restoring an old Manco Orange Crate go kart and just purchased the live axle kit. I have a tubular frame and needed to remove the old bearing brackets. I want to install the new brackets, but I am not sure if I am doing them right.. How can i get ahold of you to send you some pictures and maybe get some advice?
I've built something similar. I worry that my solid axle sticks out too far on each side and that it will bend from the leverage of the cart sitting on the axle. Have you had that problem with your build?
I ordered the individual parts for live axle swap from go power sports. I had to do individual parts because they wouldn’t allow me to swap the knobby tires with slicks. And the person on the phone was no help with helping me put together my own custom order so I took it upon myself to piece together my order online. I think I have everything I need but I might have made a mistake on ordering the proper size tires to accommodate my 60t420 drive sprocket. I ordered 12x500x6 tires. Will those work or do I need to size up to 13x500x6 to give my sprocket enough clearance from the ground
How can I pick your brains with questions I have aside from TH-cam? I made a rat rod trike I'm trying to get a little more out of. Your carts seems to zoom and I'm looking for that. I'm currently running a predator 212 no mods w/governor on 1" axle with 18x8.5-8 golf cart tires and 48t #40 chain but am already looking at moving to a 60t.
Anytime I go on go power Sports they have nothing everything says sold out I have a whole town needing parts for the track this summer its dumb so if u could tell them to update the site or something I need seat throttle cable gas tank and few other pieces
I have this same exact kart I'm just nervous about doing this to my kart because I mostly ride on Asphalt and drift and such but I really want to try something else and have the parts already what should I do?
Hi Red Beard, Does your wire feed welder have gas shielding ? I have a Manco go kart with a broken flat stock frame member under the engine. I’ve tried to repair with my intro harbor freight 90amp wire feed (no gas) and just cannot get the weld to penetrate. It looks like you may have a similar welder but it sounds like you’ve got gas shielding (I hear the buzz while you’re welding). Please let me know what welding setup you use/recommend for me, a novice weekend/hobby welder. Thanks in advance! Berry Spokane, WA
I have a 5hp briggs and it has a 3/4 shaft then it has becide it lioe 1/2 shaft and when u turn it over they both spins different ways i think it was on a tiller any ideas
Not sure what the fork is called. I took it off a old go kart. you could make one with some flat stock and a piece of hollow tube. What are you referring to when you ask where I got it?
I need help putting on my brake caliper that I got out of the trash. There's a Kawasaki brake caliper. And I'm trying to hook it up to the foot pedal. But hydri like it and I can't get it to bleed what do I do
Hey what's the style of hair cut u got bro if it's a legit style I want 5o ask my barber to cut my ish like that bro it looks professional when it needs to be but if you throw a hat on it still looks good .is there a name for it or just the rbg cut?
on my kart, the brake rubs causing some friction. I notice that you have a return spring. is that something you came up with or did it come with the kit? I have the very same brake setup but mines does not have spring
hey im building a go kart that is a bit bigger than RED....i have similar acceleration and top speed in mind. Whats the estimated Hp, gear ratio and tire diameter sizes. Would you recommend 9 or 13 HP engine
Yo mr. Beard do you have any advice on how to hop up a 49cc 4-stroke engine. It's the stock engine that comes on the crazy cooler if you've ever seen one of those. Thanks bud.
Hey RBG, I think Lil Red is a BEAST. Last week I sent a message about your nitrous system on Lil Red. Where did you get the kit from , and what you paid for it?
Amazon and the kit is around $60 www.amazon.com/Predator-Stroke-Racing-Nitrous-Oxide/dp/B01L4E3E5S/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1478032295&sr=8-8&keywords=go+kart+nitrous+kit
on my go kart my clutch i being annoying now it only goes slow and tries to go fast but im at full throttle and it barely moves where can i get a key for my centrifugal clutch?
Thank you! 3rd video, finally someone who's actually installing a live axle instead of selling crap, telling life stories or cracking stale jokes with shaky camera angles! Thank you Big Red!!
I love their live axle setup it's so easy to install even a blind guy can do it!
Blind Guy Customs I see what you did there! Lol
Hunter Birgerson and I SEE what you did there xD
I have a go cart with the same one wheel setup . The breaks are a band type drum mounted on drive wheel they suck as well as the poor traction as you know . +Jamman thank you for watching man
I love how u made welding up the frame and bracket so fast and easy. When I now it takes forever to line everything up.lol. Good install though 👍🏿👍🏾
Excellent job on that brake mechanism.
Thanks man!
6 years later and im back i knew RBG would have the solution to my problems
Nice seeing how much progress your shop has made over the years.
Not picking, just make sure those welds aren’t surface welds. They look a bit like caterpillars. Turn the heat up Red. Just an observation from a terrible angle. I could be quite wrong.
Using a lil 115 mig also...
I'll probably copy your rear axle set up with a few changes for hydraulic brakes.
Our partner will get an incredible project after it's ready ... Taking advantage of writing there together we are stronger ... Big hug partner!
Red Beard, you video made it very clear to understand how to install the live axle kit. I was curious on how to do it and you made it to where a newbie (such as myself) can do it easily. Thanks alot.
No problem man. Thats why I make these videos
How do I determine what rim, tires and hubs to get for my cart?
You are the coolest ginger in the world. There is no way I would have picked on you as a kid (I’m pretty sure). YOU RULE!

+MrTheHillfolk that engine was probably on a generator.
Man watching some of these older video I can definitely say your welding skills have improved a lot!!!

Thanks man. I actually knew that method but I appropriate you looking out. Always like good advice. Thanks for watching.
That frame flexs so much
Cool, nice project, I like it.
WOW $240 for the live axle kit! That's very $$$ expensive.
Well youd be surprised what they are now
@@mrpanda2655just like $100 on eBay right?? There’s probably better ones tho lol
They are $70 bucks on eBay 26” 32” 44”
I’m so out of date I like what I see you do a great job
I got him a yard cart which the axle is bad so I'm putting a 1-in with new sprocket drum hub etc but I like to have wider rear tires what with tire do you currently use I like the way it looks

I can try to help but it does get hard to keep up with comments. I get a ton of messages and questions and there is just no way to keep up
Nice vid. Soon I'll be making a power trike with this axle setup. Not a drift trike just a motorized 3 wheeler!
Hunter Birgerson Do you have some pictures of your trike? I have also started to build a Motorized trike!
Thank you go power sports and red beard
Great engineering mr redbeard!
overall the build looks nice, but those slick tires on a dirt road are going to ware faster.
We have some different ones to put on it later so we don't care if they wear.
Great video I have the same frame going to do mine just like yours what length axle did you use
You got the redist beard I ever laid an eyeball on !
My friend has a one wheel peel 2 seater with a subaru 7hp engine and it does Donuts on the asphalt it goes 26 but when he hits the governor it goes 38
It works good with that setup i have a obe wheel peel kart with a built Honda gx160 on it makes about 8 or 7 hp i didn't go to crazy stock cam with a way longer duration thinner head gasket ported the head just got to drill the jet on the carb
This is very interesting! Wondering how a beginner could get into this more?
Brake rod should’ve been replaced with a cable.
Bingo bango done
Cool! I can't wait to see what other power modifications you do.
Always love seeing power gains. *Subbed!*

+Pred 212_ I do it on my phone and record it. Then just overlay it in Adobe. We will be doing a lot more soon.
I have a question. I have a bent sprocket and I’m trying to get the axle off but I can’t get the callers off the bearing on the axle it’s like stuck to it so idk what to do
Hi good evening what was the total amount of money you end up spending on the live axle and can you post a description of the exact same one you installed
i spent 314 bucks on the upgraded axle and I uprgaded the axle length to 44"
Great videos my biggest hang up on my build its finding the right tires set up whether it is going with a 1" live axle tire ignoring the 3/4" end live axle or going with 3/4" ID tires and just using live axle hubs to hold the tires. Any advice or recommended buys are appreciated Thank You
Great video! Wouldn't a cable have been simpler than the brake rod setup? Not criticizing, just wondering.
I have a kart I just bought with this same axle. Only the kart doesn’t turn. It literally slides straight, whether going slow or not
love the videos red beard.
where did u buy that long of a throttle cabel im building a trike rn and i have everything but that
Can I position the break and gear wherever I want?
what kind of disc do you use to cut the frame pieces?
How about adding a differential to it so your cornering will be more precise
What type of welder did you use. I have a small Lincoln. I am getting ready to do that to one of mine.
Lincoln Welpak 100 with argon gas
Nice work bro

Can a 530 chain work on a 212 using a 30 Serious torque converter
Are all these parts required to make a live Axle work . I'm putting together a Used go kart and dont have have all those pieces for sure
Where can I find front wheels like yours?
would love to see you use a riding mower rear end on a go kart
I have the same frame , how did you get your tires to stay on without the nut coming loose , any tips?
love your videos...great help on brake
+Doug Green thanks man

How many teeth sprocket do you have? That sprocket size is huge..
Great video! I clicked on link to buy exact parts but the link shows error "Page not found" Any thoughts?
Do you have a link for that axle kit?? Please and thank you!!

Please tell me how your back wheels don't bind up by being a live axle. I have my trike that is a posi and the thing will barely move
We have never had a problem with it. If it was really under powered maybe but it handles it fine
Would love to know what gauge square tubing used. I'm bout to do the same thing to same cart. Was wondering what size fit over the tubes.
I have this same exact kart I'm just nervous about doing this to my kart because I mostly ride on Asphalt and drift and such but I really want to try something else and have the parts already what should I do?
A live axle is a awesome upgrade. Do a build on your motor get some more power.
Red Beards Garage I have the 212 with the header and air cleaner ,different jets , njk spark plug ,
What type of sproket would i need to put a sproket on a random axle
What kind of welder are you using on this small of metal? Brand name would be appreciated.
Lincoln Weld pak 100 that i converted to gas. There is a video on my channel on how i did it.
Hi Red Beard,

Prime Weld 1000%. Check out my amazon link. I've turned down big name welders because I love my Prime so much!
Doesn’t a larger sprocket on the axle produce slower speeds?
Show us a video on how to buy from gopowersports when overseas
I have a 5hp briggs and it has a 3/4 shaft then it has becide it lioe 1/2 shaft and when u turn it over they both spins different ways i think it was on a tiller any ideas
Yep, you can cut the smaller shaft it wont hurt it
Had a question just did a fresh build go cart and then every time I go fast it wobbles why and everything now so I don’t understand why it’s wobbly
Hello, do you remember where you got it, and what that piece that looks like a fork for the brake rod is called ?
Not sure what the fork is called. I took it off a old go kart. you could make one with some flat stock and a piece of hollow tube. What are you referring to when you ask where I got it?
Red Beard's Garage I was just wondering where you got it from. Maybe you bought it. Thanks
Red Beard's Garage
What kind of go cart is a little red I have one that looks almost just like that
Thanks in a million. Great content. Awesome. Grade: A++💥
I need help putting on my brake caliper that I got out of the trash. There's a Kawasaki brake caliper. And I'm trying to hook it up to the foot pedal. But hydri like it and I can't get it to bleed what do I do

How come u just didn't put the breaks on the out side the frame straight shot would that not work
I was wondering if this axle kit would work on a drift trike
Great replacement
Are the brakes compatible with a cable or will I need to fab up a linkage?
It works better with a linkage but a cable would work. You get a lot more braking power with a linkage.
Red Beard's Garage thanks!
With the disk, a cable works fine. And saves a TON of work.
Is a 3/4 dia axle too small for a street cart with a 10hp engine
No it should be fine but its hard to find bearings, sprockets and whatnot for it
on my kart, the brake rubs causing some friction. I notice that you have a return spring. is that something you came up with or did it come with the kit? I have the very same brake setup but mines does not have spring
did he remove the govoner??
new sub man love the videos and work ive been thinking about building a live axle trike mini bike
+Mike Byrne do it man. The most fun you will have is on a go kart/ mini bike
Did you use 220V or 110 welder for the job
hey im building a go kart that is a bit bigger than RED....i have similar acceleration and top speed in mind. Whats the estimated Hp, gear ratio and tire diameter sizes. Would you recommend 9 or 13 HP engine
If you can afford the 13 I would get it just to have the extra power
Red Beard's Garage awesome, Thanks so much!
I have that exact frame. How many feetvof square tubing do i need to build it the way you did
What length axel is that ? 29" , 32" or 44"?
Greg... Where did you get that clevis fork you put on the brake rod? I've been looking for them but can't find them... Thanks ~Ron
i got me the live axle kit for a trike and its hard to turn i want to get it one wheel drive wheres the one wheel drive axle kit
What axle size do I get for a go kart frame 21 inch wide
Yo mr. Beard do you have any advice on how to hop up a 49cc 4-stroke engine. It's the stock engine that comes on the crazy cooler if you've ever seen one of those. Thanks bud.
Hi flow air filter and bigger carb would be as far as I go. Anything like cams and stuff is too expensive for that small of an engine
I thought for sure your were going face first into a bumper of a car coming around a corner
Another great video. What size sprocket did you get with the axle?
+Jeremy Willoughby 60
Hey RBG, I think Lil Red is a BEAST. Last week I sent a message about your nitrous system on Lil Red. Where did you get the kit from , and what you paid for it?

Cool, thanks a lot.
Are there bigger tanks for it they looked really small?
ur awesome! answered everything I was looking for
What kind of welder do you use I was thinking about getting one
How did you keep your back tires from binding up?
Hi do you know where I can get one for a Carter 250 interceptor
I would just try looking on craigslist
on my go kart my clutch i being annoying now it only goes slow and tries to go fast but im at full throttle and it barely moves where can i get a key for my centrifugal clutch?
Go Power Sports sells some stronger clutches you can try. The cheap ones don't last long
Thx
