- Here's a quick slap together video on diving for crab in the PNW. When I began my spearing journey I was able to watch videos of people spearing with commentary which helped greatly in jump starting my learning curve. It's one of the many parts of my home states dive community that I loved and hope to help foster for other here in the PNW.

This is exactly the kind of video I need for learning about free diving for crabs. I got a good spot in Oregon where I live and every once in a while I can see the crabs walking and kept wishing I could just dive and grab them… now I have a snorkeling set and will be going out today somewhere that’s like 15’ deep. Can’t wait to implement these ideas later today
That’s a lot of crab wow!
Awesome video, Wow the bottom is swarming with crabs 🦀
Really great video! Thank you for sharing this resource. I live in the South Puget Sound, always been curious about free diving around here. This is the motivation I need!
Fantastic video I have lived there in wa. For 56 years. Moved to Louisiana a few months ago I miss the clear water!
Where in Louisiana? I lived there for 4 years, I miss spearfishing at the oil rigs!
Very interesting to see this, as a OG diver here in the Pacific Northwest .. Diving for crab as always been a conversation of where to go, and don't tell anyone... Same with spearfishing..
Anyway interesting to find this video today on TH-cam being a diver here in the Pacific Northwest.. 😄👍
hell yea dude, great video. thats my favorite dive spot for crabs x)
It would be kind of fun to see more videos like this- quite enjoyable and informative.
Awesome video
Always cool to see a rat fish. Dove this spot alot of times good to see it again. Last time I dove it 15 years ago or more there where hundreds of giant sunflower seastars covering the bottom are they still abundant there? Anyway thanks for sharing your video.
That's awesome! I only ever see any type of sea stars on the pylons themselves.
Well done- big respect for breath hold
Nice I figured it was there or Edmonds
Awesome footage, next time can you include some clips of you at the surface then diving and returning to surface without editing so we can practice our breath hold
🙌
Badasss
Also, please look up to make sure you’re not running into a swimmer as you surface. 🧜♀️
People aren’t swimming in the puget sound 🥶
@@Mangold2865 I swim in the Puget Sound daily, all year long! The water was too rough to swim, but I was in for 33 minutes today.
Great video and tips. When was this shot?
I want to say it was near the end of July
hey boss did you take any lessons or anything to get started? Diving seems daunting coming from someone who hasn't swum in open ocean much before. Any tips on how you get started would be awesome :)
Hey Bobby! As far as diving I learned that by trial and error as a kid. Spearfishing was a mix of the old Hawaii Skin Diver forum and VHS videos! I would later take a PFI intermediate course which helped me to be a safer diver. They now have several different dive organizations and programs to help get people who want to look into diving a little more seriously.
Thanks! I'll see if there's local organizations to start diving!@@okekai8353
11:23 I think that is a rat fish
Hi sir what suit would you recommend for Oregon Tillamook Bay Area in winter months? Thank you
A warm shower waiting for you on Shore! I only make it down to Tillamook a few times a year, usually in fall. I am weak to cold and am plenty happy with my 7 there though a 5mm would be enough and I even know some crazy ppl who rock 3's.
I know where you are You're at Muk! :)
I'm from California and found this place in less than 2 min. EWP
Whats the reason for diving instead of using a crab cage? Personal preference?
For myself it's somewhat a personal preference. I do love diving so there's that. More often than not i can pull a full limit of crabs within an hour, some days it's just a few minutes. There's only a few locations where diving for crab is more time effective. Though if there's more people the productivity does tend to go down and eventually traps are better.
I used a trout net to stop the crabs from running me out of air, to then do the sex check while trapped in net. Using scuba
Can you spear fish those sand dabs?
I'm not entirely sure. You'd have to look into regulations for the area as well as any health concerns for the area.
those are called columns not pillars
The plural of crab is crab.
i cant hear anything .
Great video! Do you have an email contact for potential collaboration?
