Canadian magician Darcy Oake wows the audience and judges, with another impressive illusion for his semi final performance on Britain's Got Talent 2014.
That's what get's me everyone 'knows' how he did it, but it's his timing and stage presence that really sells the trick. He's not over the top or overly flashy. He's fast and precise and that's what makes it enjoyable.
It is very sad this great Canadian talent had to go to Britain got talent to show case himself. I have never heard of him here in Canada until he audition .Keep up the good work and I hope one day you have a show in Ontario.
There was previously Canada's Got Talent. Only lasted 1 season. Due to production costs, they couldn't make a new season. On that version, actor Martin Short is familiar (as one of the judges) but not the other 2 judges. Didn't like the host of it.

he must of got out at the start when it was dark behind , but at the end before they remove the sheet you can still see the shape of his head underneath the sheet very well done. very smooth illusion

2:02 the camera man holds the handle of the camera with his left hand, if you watch this in a higher quality video, you will see his left hand at 2:39 holding the eye piece. Also the camera becomes less stable as Darcy probably does not have as much experience as a camera man. He probably changed placed with the camera man at 2:31, which is where the background is dark and hard to see. 2:31 is also when the camera wombles a lot. The camera man slows down when in front of the dark background, It takes him about 5 seconds (from 2:20 to 2:25) to move roughly 2 metres (roughly the length of the dark background) but when in front of the dark background, it takes him 8 seconds (2:25 to 2:33) to appear from the dark background. Yes, i'm fun at parties : ]
Amazing how many people fall for this and then they "think" they saw him. You never see him leaving the stage because he is sliding inside the stairs that are being removed by those 2 guys.
It makes me a little uncomfortable that after that amazing illusion all the judges and audience could think about was Darcy taking his shirt off. You could see that he was lowkey uncomfortable
2:09 - 2:11 he goes down from the chair and into the shadows.. then at 2:33 and 2:35 he comes from behind the scenes and switches places with the camera guy... Good magic trick by the way, awesome use of light and shadow...
When you see magic, you look at the content and not the "main frame" of the view. In this case, I just saw the screen on the stage watching the camera shot went further and further, I already knew how it would end before he expose the trick (or finalize the act).
The trick start from 2:12 when he slide himself and hide within the stair...he stay within the stair, then his assistants will move the stair away ,,,,and there he get ready and change his clothes.................I saw program about that explaining similar tricks :)
At 2:29 u can see the camera guy walked in the center of the stage and fade in and another guy which is him walked out. U can tell by 2 shadows covered the light in the center
This illusion is very effective and simple. He climbs a flight of stairs. Once covered, assistants shaken veil until he got out of the chair and go back below it. He then hid in the stairwell, which was moved back quickly. Only then mobile camera go round chair. When the operator reaches the middle of the screen with lights, it disappears and appears Darcy Oake deliberately dressed in black clothes and not for example in orange.
2:06 Those two men just walk behind the table and took him away from the chair to the background of the stage. Just take a close look because its dark and black not everyone can see it. And at 2:29 The cameraman went to the backstage and magician shows up as a cameraman. Just take a close look. By the way its really hard to do and brilliantly done. " ILLUSION"
EASY: 1:41 stairs - can not see trough, why? because its hidding place 2:00 he goes under chair 2:48 chair - you can see V construction chair - that does illusion of person under sheet

At that same time, he exits down the stair case before it gets wheeled away and the platform gets moved forward by his assistants (this is why the stair case has a black sheet going to down the full length of it under the steps).... But yah bro, you totally caught him on that one.
As the flare brightens the audience is distracted which allows him to take the first bird out of his sleeve (if you closely doesn't look normal). If you then watch his second hand you obviously see it move quickly towards his inner jacket to pull out another bird. This is just my observation I'm not sure if it's right but it's a really probable.
I don't know how he got away from the chair but I know how he came out as the maintenance guy. The maintenance guy is walking around the whole chair thing untill he gets to the curtain in the back of the stage. Then he goes out without us noticing and then Darcy Oake switches with him from backstage. The reason you don't see this is because you are focusing at the chair at the time because at the exact same time as the switch, you see the cloth over the chair moving around so you get distracted by that
Am I the only one who saw the SWITCH of people that, that made him the "crew" member? the main part of the illusion is the chair and the pitch black background of the chair. The "real crew" member was told what to do. Whenever not to shot the back part of the chair when he's doing his escape.
it's simple. the camera man had black shoes, the other stunt double had white shoes. The camera man had a pimple on his face and the stunt double didn't

The chair had a mechanical part to it as well, to make it seem like he was still there. I figured this one out quickly, but took a longer time analyzing his technique to see what he actually did. Very well performed.
