I been learning about typical issues with the C5 and also checking out upgrades. You are one of the most entertaining and informative when it comes to go over a topic. I appreciate your sense of humor and the language that you use in your videos, you are polite. I want you to know that I have never subscribed to anyone. This is my first subscription after using TH-cam for over 20 years Thank you for helping us out with our c5’s…
Congratulations! My 03 Z06’s starter failed 3 days after buying the car, in the Starbucks parking lot, on the way to church! 😂 Needless to say, we missed church that day. My stock exhaust manifold was easier to work around, so it wasn’t as bad to replace. FYI, I’m telling every Corvette guy, I found the fix for the tick tick valve sound in my LS. I tried Amsoil Upper Cylinder Lubricant in the gas and it worked! The engine is MUCH quieter, even on a cold start! The noise is gone!!!🎉
Seeing it finally turn over was so satisfying! I admire your work ethic dude, youve been uploading a ton recently. Your channel is gonna blow tf up soon
I have been displeased having to fix and fix and fix my c5. 😢😅😢 But afterwards The Drive is always worth it. They are great cars and a blast to drive. Even at highway speeds. 🎉
I've totally been looking forward to this video. So glad it was just the starter even though it was a p i t a to remove it. Now I know if I ever need to replace mine, I will wiggle the header out. Thankfully my 01 Vette starter is almost brand new. Thanks Jake!
I had to do the starter on my 02 a few years ago. No lift, glad I don't have headers. I did have to remove some of the exhaust of course. Good job, congrats. It was funny that you forgot to unhook the battery before messing with the wires to the starter, you won't make that mistake again, lol.
Im down in ct and have a 99 c5, ive been using quickjacks to work on it and I agree any type of lift is an absolute gamechanger. Almost the same mods as yours for the most part
I got C3 and C4 Corvettes. The best way to remove those starters on those is first un-plugging the battery. Then I use shorty headers when I build a vette. Three bolts, and the forward pipe guillotine clamps, pipe comes loss. Take off the tranny converter cover, starter is completely exposed. I do wish I had a lift, tho. So congrats on the new lift, man. One day, I'll get one myself. I'm looking at a 2 peice lift. One for each side of the car, but it doesn't get the car very high up in the air. So, I'm still looking at different lifts.
From $6K to $73K that's the minimum range of profit return every week I thinks it's not a bad one for me, now I have enough to pay bills and take care of my family.
VENTURING into the trading world without the help of a profesionals, trading and expecting profit is like turning water into wine you would need a miracle.
GOOD CONTENT !!! Very engaging right from the beginning These are tough and frankly I appreciate how you discuss global finances in such a delicate way. Business and investment
Experted Ann Marie strunk was my hope during the 'bear summer' last year. I did so many mistakes but also learned so much from it, and of course from Maria strunk.
Just sold a property in Alaska and I'm thinking to put the cash in stocks, I know everyone is saying it's ripe but Is this a time to buy stocks? How long until a full recovery? How are other people in the same market raking in over $450k gains within months, I'm really just confused at this point.
Hey , friend great job 😀 really nice idea on lift . If I ever have same issues I will look back at this coverage. Car still looks bad ass, BUT DUDE THAT OIL LEAK 🤔 REMEMBER ITS A VETTE 🤗 Stay cool friend 😎
Jake you should run a tight string from the front to the back of the garage a few inches off the ceiling so you can hang a little dingle bell. Just so you get a little WARNING before the hood or hatch makes a different weird noise.......Oh, i know some stories.
Not a mechanic here.......but been working on an 04 I bought..........removed the starter twice to replace crankshaft pos sensor....twice..............remove your battery box and battery.......then pull the header out the top side......for future reference.
glad the problem was identified and remedied. My special corvette fix it tool is giving money to J and D corvette garage. I was guessing incorrect alternator output had freaked out the computer , but, as always, guessing doesn't lead to results , just a place to start for the low skilled.
My starter shot craps after church one day and I spent 30 minutes pounding on it to get it to finally start. Got it home and next day called to get my shop to work me in for a fix. Spent 45 minutes pounding on the starter before I finally got it to start and drove to the shop. They called a couple hours later and said they could not get it to fail!! It would start every time and did I still want a new starter? I said "replace it"! That was at about 60 thou. miles. (99 C5 manual 395 cu. in. stroker with Procharger and Comp Cam, headers, ported heads)
I had to swap my starter out in the rain one time. When it went out it got stuck turning the engine over until it overheated and died 😬. Hoping I don't have to again with my headers, looks like it's a pain.
Quick Jacks are +/- $1100. Not sure what you paid for this lift but the QJ's are independent and nowhere in the way. But guess what, I am betting you knew that, lol. But you can go much higher than 18". Great job and great video.
Don't buy the Bosch Automotive SR8581N. Went through two of them and would make a terrible noise on start up. Bought from Amazon and think I went with the AC Delco one as well and no more noise. I would also recommend a starter heat shield to protect from the heat from long tube headers if you have them.
looks like either valve cover gasket or oil ending unit. Both are relatively easy jobs. Rear main seal is a torque tube and transmission cradle out job. Might as well do the clutch and possibly rebuild the Torque tube while its out of the car; otherwise you would have to drop it again to do either. Parts aren't that expensive but it is a little time consuming to do correctly. you just don't want oil on the clutch from the rear main seal. The lower oil pan seal is relatively easy, just be really careful with the bolts as they break very easily if they are over torqued.
Glad you got her fixed. One of the best investments I made for my C6 were my Quick Jacks. They may not go as high, but I easily have better than a foot above my chest while on a creeper, and the entire underside of the car is accessible.
I love your videos videos. I recently just bought a 2001 c5 Corvette at 17 and the only problem I have with it is I can’t turn off the traction control like the button don’t work and the two traction control lights are always on. Got any tips
Currently going through this. Im guessing my headers cooked the starter? I replaced my battery, and it temporarily fixed the issue, but 2 months later, the same shit
Just my opinion ,don't know what you paid for that lift but a Quick Jack is more convenient. You can get under the car from front to back. It allows me to do anything.
Oil all over bottom of engine...You probably should fix the oil leak buddy 😅. That's why your original starter went out. Oil in a starter will kill the new one too. 😮
You’ve had this huge oil leak for a very long time, valve cover gaskets? I mean the whole engine is covered lol if it is vc gaskets its not a difficult job.
Was it the starter. I'm at 130k lol and I replaced my battery and fixed my no crank. No start, but 2 months later, it's doing it again, except this time, the starter solenoid won't click
Everybody who has replaced a starter in their garage has learned how much juice is in the battery my friend. Congrats on the lift. They are life changers
I might be wrong, but that looks exactly like my stater off of my 06 silverado. The c5 uses a 4l60e transmission which the Silverados and Colorados used as well.

That was very nice of you to say. 😊
It shows the character of this young man and how well he was raised. ❤🎉

been watching for a couple years and Im surprised your still at 60k subscribers, great videos and entertaining one day you will explode for sure
Glad you found the problem, congrats on purchasing the lift, good job fixing it. 👍👍👍
I have been displeased having to fix and fix and fix my c5. 😢😅😢

Id say a heat shield between starter and header would be a great investment
I would have bumped the starter over before putting all the exhaust back. Also the dip stick is easier to install with headers loose. great video.
I had to do the starter on my 02 a few years ago. No lift, glad I don't have headers. I did have to remove some of the exhaust of course. Good job, congrats. It was funny that you forgot to unhook the battery before messing with the wires to the starter, you won't make that mistake again, lol.
Lmao as I soon as I heard the shock joke I was like yup you forget the battery lmao
Im down in ct and have a 99 c5, ive been using quickjacks to work on it and I agree any type of lift is an absolute gamechanger. Almost the same mods as yours for the most part
Nothing more satisfying than doing the job yourself, huh Jake?
I've got the same kind of midrise lift in my garage. Had to build ramps as well for my Mustang. They are a game changer for sure

Smart buy. 😎🤘🏻🔨 Good thinking, Lincoln.

The fact that I got to learn and earn from her program is everything to me think about it, it's a win-win for both ways.

Love your videos never stop the way you do them ❤ But how you gonna make us go through all that and not give us a few rips in the thing 😢
Jake you should run a tight string from the front to the back of the garage a few inches off the ceiling so you can hang a little dingle bell. Just so you get a little WARNING before the hood or hatch makes a different weird noise.......Oh, i know some stories.
A awesome video the trails in calamity of a Corvette owner

"Then I try to find the hole the dipstick goes in.......story of my life" Best line in the video!
Yea those dealers are very proud of their parts.
Dude, I'm 41, I hate working off the ground now. My c5 made me realize that.
My starter shot craps after church one day and I spent 30 minutes pounding on it to get it to finally start. Got it home and next day called to get my shop to work me in for a fix. Do they make “wraps” for starters to keep oil off them? Like a turbo blanket.
Awesome.. glad you got it fixed…

Did you have to relocate your dipstick when you did the headers? Mine didn’t seem to work with the stock bracket
U got all that equipment i know yall know how to weld.. half a day i woulda had two steel ramps cut in half welded to the lift lol
Looks like you have a small oil leak somewhere. That would drive me nuts.
looks like either valve cover gasket or oil ending unit. Both are relatively easy jobs.

I also tried soldering the five points on the EBCM and it diddnt help
@@lanewood9016 Probably need to send the ecbm out for repair, or check all grounds and wire harness in the door accordions.
Currently going through this. Im guessing my headers cooked the starter? I replaced my battery, and it temporarily fixed the issue, but 2 months later, the same shit
Awesome 👍
All that oil leaking will kill your new starter pretty quick, might be time to fix those also.
My lift is the best tool I ever added to my garage. If you ever need a full height two post lift, you can come and visit!
I think maybe same heat shield between starter and header will extend starter life.
I had to put heat wrap around the starter on my c5 with headers because it would have kept cooking starters.
And test the starter too. I saw the dude put one in and it was DOA
Pull key and wait 10 seconds is the computer thinking the steering column is locked so it won’t allow you to drive the car. Check posts for the fix.
Column lock bypass
That Starter motor is a bitch to get to but that is sports cars for you - big engine in a small car.
Having a lift is a definitive game changer.
It's because of the headers. With factory exhaust its a 30min job and you don't need to touch the exhaust.
I hope you at least used some brake clean and hosed off that oil on the bottom of the car!
whats the brand of the lift? or a link?
Good job bud! Now I'm sure your alternator will go next lol
Just my opinion ,don't know what you paid for that lift but a Quick Jack is more convenient. You can get under the car from front to back. It allows me to do anything.
Thank You for sharing.
Rock Auto has OEM!!!!
awesome video!!! now you just need to hawk tuah and CAM THAT THANG haha >:)
Oil all over bottom of engine...You probably should fix the oil leak buddy 😅. That's why your original starter went out. Oil in a starter will kill the new one too. 😮
The headers cooked the starter.
or the oil leaks....
i been thinking get the quickjacks
Glad my starter is still good jeesh
Why didn’t you wash the underside of the car BEFORE you start working on it?
Sorry, just my OCD kicking in! Great video. Thanks for posting!
I'm sure you know this, but I'll say it, fix the oil leak it will kill your new starter
That lift is cool, but you can't do anything under the center of the car with it.
Lift it and pressure wash all the oil. Replace front seal.
You’ve had this huge oil leak for a very long time, valve cover gaskets? I mean the whole engine is covered lol if it is vc gaskets its not a difficult job.
I thought I had a bad starter, but it was the safety switch on the clutch pedal.
Getting your first lift is like watching a birth only no SH**ty diapers or tax exemption. At least your wallet went on a diet😁
fix that oil leak, it might be from the front seal or the timing cover.
I couldn’t get mine to start today and then a couple minutes later i could, thinking my starter is going out now aswell
Of course right after I spent weeks trying to fix the transmission shift cable, luckily my exhaust is already off
Mine has 126k so I feel your pain
Was it the starter. I'm at 130k lol and I replaced my battery and fixed my no crank. No start, but 2 months later, it's doing it again, except this time, the starter solenoid won't click
So let me get this straight ... you really, really like the lift ... Is that right? Nice work - would it start? Never in doubt!
1:57 no.
Congrats on the lift
No way is that lift 900 lbs
Especially with a car that weighs around 3200 pounds
Glad it all worked out.
Everybody who has replaced a starter in their garage has learned how much juice is in the battery my friend. Congrats on the lift. They are life changers
What's up with dad's leg?
He broke his femur 🙁
Is this another commercial or is there real content?
Well don't get mad but with headers I normally wrap a starter
what do you know bud.
@jjooshy with headers they put out alot of heat so I wrap the starter with heat wrap shield will save a starters life won't get cooked as bad
@jjooshy forums from years ago, people have been recommending wrapping the starter especially with aftermarket headers
@castlegarage6969 yep guy i bought my vette from did not do this, currently paying the price for it smh
I might be wrong, but that looks exactly like my stater off of my 06 silverado. The c5 uses a 4l60e transmission which the Silverados and Colorados used as well.
Why don’t you change the front seal while you’re at it fix all that massive oil leak you have
I need a lift also
Now you know why it cost so much. I think I would have paid the $600 dollars for a professional.
The $600 plus was just for the starter at the Chevy dealer. That price didn’t include installation! 😊
hi
a chorus of viewers begins to build "more jeeps, more jeeps, more jeeps."
so so much oil..
Dude fix all those oil leaks SMH
