Your hike update is great. You're family update - Wonderful! Watching your kids grow up to be responsible, contributing people is one of the greatest thrills a parent can experience. Congrat's on raising a good family. :>)
Congrats on being a grandpa! Enjoyed watching you on the AT as a woman approaching 40. It's nice to see someone do these things who isnt 20. It's really refreshing and inspiring (although of course i love Liz's channel too) to see someone more my age doing this sort of thing. I'm attempting my first thru hikes this year. The mozzies are my biggest fear, which is really odd, but if something would make me quit it's the irritating buzzing and relentlessness of millions of mozzies or black flies. Keep your resolve, you've got this!
Congratulations on being a grandfather. That’s awesome. I’m proud of Sam too. Everyone in your family has done really well. I can’t wait to see the videos of the Colorado trail.
Congratulations on becoming a grandfather. I now get the Jupiter reference. He is also pretty hardcore, super thin pad and tarp. You’re in good company. You make very good videos. Take care
Evan, congratulations on being a Grandpa!! My daughter is due on June 26th with her first child, my first grandchild. I'm very excited, to say the least. I am very much looking forward to seeing you, Liz, and Luke on the Colorado Trail! Thanks in advance for sharing your adventure!
Evan, it was great to meet you on the Colorado Trail at the Rolling Creek Trailhead today! You’ve inspired me and so many others with your videos! Best wishes to you as you enjoy the Colorado Trail!
Tell Sam to look into getting his Space Pilot's license. When I buy my new Firefly, I want him to fly it. You'll have your own cabin, of course, 'cause we will go hiking on all of the colony worlds.😉 I love the tarp & bivvy setup. Glad you decided to bring a pad. Have fun out there. That's what it's all about. 👍
Evan my compliments to you, your wife, and to each of your children. It is terrific to hear of their success. Best wishes for an amazing CT hike. Like you, I hiked in trail runners for a bit, but like you, I tripped often. My analytical mind told me it was due to the thickly padded sole and the elevated heel. I considered sandals but wanted toe protection. I tried a zillion brands and models of shoes until I came across the Merrell Trail Glove. For me they were the ticket snd I’ve never looked back. I’m excited to see your videos of the hike, Evan. Thanks for sharing your adventures.
Congratulations Grandpa! Enjoy your time on the beautiful CT with your Tramily. We (my hiking buddy Frosty and I) will be starting the CT on June 29th. Wish we could have met you three….but, you never know, we are a tad slow. Lol
So glad to get to catch up with you, your gear, and your family. Look forward to seeing you, Luke and Liz on the CT! Thanks so much for sharing with us all.
I love your setup...I have since I tripped onto your channel--just very different than everything else I see, for the most part. I do watch a channel called Simon a Bloke in the Woods...different than your channel, but he has interesting setups, too, just way heavier than yours! You have things so dialed in for you, don't try to convince anyone, just matter of fact--thanks for sharing, as always, appreciate your take on things! Oh, I hiked in flip flops last summer, 8 miles, I think sandals would be better, but its what I had...you are right, in the right place, better than my tail runners. Take care.
Old Even, one of hiking's great ones. I watch each and every video he put out at least twice. Always learn so much valuable information. Super interesting, and never a dull moment. So glad he is back. His Colorado trail quest of adventure should be great experience. Thanks for taking some of along vicariously.
That is awesome news about the family. Congratulations on becoming a grandfather. I'll be looking forward to watching your next hike in Colorado. Take care Evan and God bless! -ATB Adam
Congrats on your first grandchild! Thanks for taking us along on your adventures! If you see a female thru hiker named President on the CT please tell her hello from Shoes :) Happy Hiking!
So excited to hear you and the family are doing well. So excited to hear that you, Liz, and Luke will be hiking together again. So excited to hear “next series” which means there we be more of your videos to watch. Your videos have meant a lot to me and so thankful when you share. All the best!
Evan! It's been too long. I always enjoy your videos. I am looking forward to your Colorado trail hike with Liz and Luke. Your AT thruhike vlogs helped me through a tough time in life and brought me back to hiking again so, thank you for that and thanks for sharing your set up too. I find your observations and knowledge about your trails to be very helpful as well. Good luck on the trails ahead.
Great to see you again Evan and congratulations on the first grandchild. July's hike sounds to be a good one and its wonderful to hear all the great news about your family. Nate
Wow! That's some update! I'm impressed with the grand-baby and the pilot and the quilt selection!! Have fun in Seattle and I can't wait for more hiking videos (pre-trip and trip!).
Hello. Enjoyed this little hike in the woods. I appreciate you sharing the update on your hiking plans, gear, and most importantly the family. Wow! You guys have much to celebrate especially with the grandchild. Indeed blessed! Gear lists are fascinating to me - your list in particular. I like your choices. When one finds what works go with it. Can’t wait to see the Colorado Trail! Keep Hiking! God bless you and your wonderful family!
Nice rundown. I’ll be watching for your CT videos when you post them. Liz’s too. Congratulations on becoming a grandparent; the same happened for my wife and I in March when my daughter and husband had a baby girl named Ella. It’s a great feeling and adds a new facet to your life. Congratulations to Sam as well. I guessed he had moved on to jets and the commercial world of aviation. There’s nothing better than setting goals and then achieving them. Take care.
Great to see you back and looking forward to seeing all 3 together on the Colorado Trail. Love your laidback style- you've always defined 'hike your own hike' to me.. :)
Enjoyed the gear update for your upcoming CO Trail, Evan. Looking forward to following your trip. And how awesome to see Sam in his pilot uniform! I know y’all are proud parents of all of your kids. 👍🏼
Hope you and Luke and Liz have a fun and safe hiking adventure in Colorado. It sounds like you and your family are all doing well. I can't believe your baby is a commercial pilot now. Wow. Time keeps on tickin tickin tickin into the future.
Wow that was a great update on the family Evan! Congrats on the grandbaby! Very exciting times! The CT hike will be awesome and I'm looking forward to videos from it! Thanks for sharing e-Wolf, the kit looks great!
I hope you get to do it! Back in 2018, I was either going to hike the Colorado Trail or the AT -- and I chose the AT. Now it's finally time for the CT.
@@EvansBackpackingVideos I’m glad you chose the AT in 18’, but really happy your are getting to do the CT now! I’m hoping to do an End to End of the Long Trail and then hop over and do the last 180 of the AT to Katahdin this Summer.
Hey Evan, I'm a new subscriber to your channel but I have watched quite a few of your video's. I ran into an AT south bounder on Wildcat the other day that said he got a lot of inspiration from your content. Although his sandals were in his pack and he was hiking barefoot. Good luck on the CT and congratulations on the new grandson! When you see Luke let him know I'm still using the photo he took of me on Bondcliff.
@@EvansBackpackingVideos Yes Scott, he is also activating summits with ham radio so we have that in common. I had just finished an activation on Wildcat when I bumped into him. Kind of blew me away, no shoes in the Whites!
Hey there, I’m excited to hear you’ll be on the CT this summer! I’m getting back out too, since I only did 1/2 of it last year. Starting over from the start in July. Hope to see you out there!
Evan! So excited for you and the CT! Wow on Sam!! Checking out her greeting card co now. Your tarp will be so handy for quick setups with the pm storms. 👍
Yes I'm going to get my commercial license/certificate but I don't plan to fly for the airlines. It's mostly for skill improvement rather than for money-making.
big congrats sir on everything ???... can't wait to follow along...most importantly, did you play that growly bass guitar in the music ?? love the tone, what bass is that..Fender Jazz ??? I'm a bass player, it really caught my attention.....
I think the answer to that is yes but you'd have to be a little more creative in setting up for storms. Do some research about Ray Jardine or look into his books about tarp camping -- he did a number of long trails with his wife Jenny and they slept under the same tarp, which wasn't any larger than mine.
What kind of Lunas are you wearing? How many hiking miles do they last? I love my middlebears. A gear list video without mentioning base weight? c’mon Evan. Such a tease.
Woohooooo!!! Shits getting real Grampa Evan!!!!!
Honestly I'm grateful for a hiker who doesn't talk incessantly about gear....

So glad to hear you’re doing well Evan. Can’t wait to see future videos. You convinced me to use a tarp backpacking and I never went back.
Glad to hear it!

I'm excited too! I learned the most about the Colorado Trail when I watched all of your trail videos the moment they came out!
So awesome!
Glad to see you're going to do trail videos again. Will you eventually be a commercial pilot? There is a shortage.
Yes I'm going to get my commercial license/certificate but I don't plan to fly for the airlines. It's mostly for skill improvement rather than for money-making.
Gotta love retirement. How the hell did any of us have time to work?
But Evan is still not only a hiker but a practicing attorney, an artist, a writer, a musician, and a pilot--and that's just the stuff I know about.
EVAN!
big congrats sir on everything ???... can't wait to follow along...most importantly, did you play that growly bass guitar in the music ?? love the tone, what bass is that..Fender Jazz ??? I'm a bass player, it really caught my attention.....
No, I'm not playing the bass. I put together the sounds but I didn't play the instruments. (Pretty easy to do nowadays!)
Congratulations on all fronts! You will love being a grandparent!
Looking forward to your adventure with Luke and Liz.
SO EXCITED THAT YOU ARE DOING ANOTHER HIKING TRAIL!!
What is your cooking set up? Or do you cold soak?
Stoveless and I'll eat like I did on the Appalachian Trail. Food that doesn't require cooking. I don't cold soak.
You have a lot to be proud of for sure!
Good to see you again can't wait for the new series!
Oh and congrats all around! Sam is a big man now.
Hi Evan just a quick one - do you think two people ( 5’10” ) can sleep under your under the tarp?
I think the answer to that is yes but you'd have to be a little more creative in setting up for storms. Do some research about Ray Jardine or look into his books about tarp camping -- he did a number of long trails with his wife Jenny and they slept under the same tarp, which wasn't any larger than mine.
