I felt the same way about radishes; the first time I ate one was the last time I ate one! It was peppery and bitter but recently I found a recipe for keto potato salad using radishes cut into quarters then roasted and it was amazing! Now I want to grow them
I have a similar story! I saw that same trick online and bought some from the store and roasted them! So good! I'm going to plant some now! I'd like to pickle some too.
Jess is absolutely right. I bought only 1 bunch to try roasted radishes before putting in the effort. Halved and quartered them based on size and cut up onion the same. Olive oil, salt and pepper and a hot oven. They were amazing! Whole family loved them and nobody got enough.
By watching your video it confirms that I really need to sow my radish seeds a bit far from each other, also not sow too much at once, and make sure to give them evenly moisture....I'm like you didn't really care for them but they look so pretty in salads and also they are so healthy, will have to get some seeds at OSH especially this week their price reduction goes 50% off, oh will have to try to roast them as well, yum!!! Thank you for another great video and all the tips on how to grow radishes!
You're welcome Cindy! Even with these I thought I sowed them pretty far apart (or so I thought) but now that they're coming up I'm still going to have to thin them a little bit.
I’ve been unsuccessful but I am trying them in containers right now. I’m on two plus weeks with mine. At first they were growing slow because of a couple cold spells but I think with the 50-70 temps they have been growing. Only a couple days ago I went around with some seeds and planted them randomly among my peas and herbs even around some flowers lol.
I don't like radishes either, but I bought some seeds today and am going to try growing them for the bees! Apparently bees love the flowers....and then the seed pods are edible, maybe they taste better 😄
I've decided to try growing radishes because I still have half a row empty in my garden and It's too late to plant many other things. I'm also going to try pickling them!
@@NextLevelGardening Ehhh, I'd eat the bumper off your var with enough ranch dressing on it lol. I have a couple months before my plants go out so I'm diresct sowing 5-6 varieties that are 28 days so why not. I mostly give away as much produce as I can anyway so if I can't move radishes for free I'll have learned.
I think I already posted on a different vid... I accidentally fertilized my first session of radish with blood meal! LOL BRIAN!! DUDE!! You have GOT to try the 'Hailstone" from MIGardner! Very, very mild! Caution about the watermelon radish... They get HUGE!! 4" in diameter! Space accordingly. 👍🏻👍🏻
I don't like them either, due to childhood salad trauma (I used to call them "bitey"), but I found some white icicle from MIGardener that I am trying because they are supposed to be less peppery, and they look really cool. I like your idea of succession planting, and putting them among other plants, so as to not steal space.
If you hate radishes, try roasting them with some Italian seasoning! I’m Keto & I toss mine in Avocado oil, then sprinkle with salt, pepper & Italian seasoning. YUM!
Hi Brian, I love your videos. I know you are very busy with the move but I would love an update on this video. Did you like the radishes? I planted them for the first time in a container 5 days ago and they are growing. Happy growing!
What are the months you grow radishes in California? Do you plant them also in the mid summer? I heard when the day is too long they start to blossom instead of growing an actual vegetable.
Funny, but sad story, our 18-month-old son, Hunter, used to love to climb up onto a chair to climb onto the dinner table to get to the bowl of fruit my wife had on the table. He'd take a bite out of an apple and a pear or two, then eat an ENTIRE radish!!! The sad part is, we have just the memories of his antics because sadly he passed away a month later during his nap (SUDC). But is that not the strangest thing, a toddler LIKING the taste of a radish???
I don’t think it’s a stupid question (retired teacher here)😂 I am growing them for the first time so I am not experienced. I think that one plant should give you several because if you ever bought them with the leaves, that’s what it looks like. Happy growing!

I’ve planted some and I just had the idea of pickling them to cause I have a bunch and plan to grow more. How did your harvest go?
How did it go?
you can boil them like potatoes or put them in a stew
I don't eat them either. Planted them for my husband. Thanks for video.
My mom always said to put radishes and kale in a pan with lots of butter so they slide into the garbage easily.
Yes!

😆🤣
Would it be a problem to grow them in soil fertilized with manure compost? I've read the manure can mess up carrots but not sure about radishes.
Thanks for the information!
I eat an entire 16oz bag of radishes in one sitting I love them your out of your mind

oh cool i love Jess from roots n refuge :) i like when youtubers name drop one another haha
Turnips can be used in place of potatoes as well. They make amazing mashed “potatoes”. 😉
Great video

How do you grow radishes from old radish tops?

I love raw radishes. With plenty of salt on them I can eat 25 in just a few days. I usually eat cherry Bella radishes.
Try salt with lime, my favorite snack
Wonderful channel..Keep it up friend 👍

I broke the first rule !🤣 whole pkg in a huge pot , have no idea what I’m doing. Roasting !wow!
He looks like Seth McFarlane. 😂😂😂
I loved radishes when I was 5 years old, wasn’t picky
This maybe a stupid question but does one seed give you one radish???

@@waterlily9349 one seed gives you one radish. Just experimented lol
I am getting beautiful leaves, but little to no bulb. Help!? Lol
He’s cute
You can pickle radishes silly boy
