Really great video! I've played both games at least twice and HM's is definitely my favorite of the two. It really uses Cyber Sleuth as such a good jumping off point. And I love the relationship between Keisuke and Yuu. Keisuke isn't a perfect protagonist, but I like the sweet spot they hit between silent and him being his own character. Also i wholeheartedly agree, give the MC some voice lines and make him just have an arc with erin’s proper. Bless you bud, this is a fantastic video and I couldn't agree with you more. The funny thing about Hackers Memory is I'm a Persona fan the amount parallels between this game and that series such as having a heavy emphasis on character establishment and investment, distinct core themes (in HM's case Memories) and having a story that really implements it's own psychological brand of story telling. It's the best Digimon game by a mile because this game went above and beyond to make me care about Hudie and especially about the games best girl, Erika who steals the show. I also like the fact our protagonist in this game displays genuine emotion and actively shows he cares about who he's fighting for.
Kisuke, the MC that looks like he sold his soul years ago because his pupils and irises are pin pricks. I remember playing this on my Vita while I worked at Delta during my lunch breaks and my favorite Digimon was Neptunemon, the whole Duramon line, and little Lucemon. I didn't play the first, but I wasn't too lost on the story.
I definitely enjoyed hacker's memory more than cybersluthe, especially since they not only fixed the problems of the previous gane, but also hadded so many more digimon, allowing me to make a much more varied team. Seriously, what other game lets you use Belphemon as a partner.
It's not pronounced as Hudie(Ha-Di), but as Hudie(Who-Di-Eh), which is the Chinese word for butterfly. And it's sort of on theme with the ending, with Erika turning into Hudiemon, a butterfly digimon.

As a small side note about the pronunciation of Japanese names in general, it's usually the first syllable that gets emphasized (KAY-su-kay, AH-ra-ta etc)
These 2 games are my favourite digimon games and are up there in my top RPGs of all time the feeling of progression and all the different digimon feels great for advancement throughout the game
I disagree with some things about Yu (spoilers): It was important for none of the Hudie members to get too involved with it as a thematic message and to make a sincere stance towards their relationship. Yu was cooking up some edgy existentialism plot to yandere all over the MC, and Erika casually flips it over and never speaks of it again because she never HAS to. All the things happening in the world WERE more important than Yu's failed script, and it was his insistence to stay in that narrow viewpoint that kept him blind and a smallfry instead of the hero he wanted to be. Had even 2 people joined MC to tackle Yu, it would've been a beatdown, and MC chose not to because that wasn't the point. But yeah, that final dialogue choice reeks of "damnit we're not allowed to take it that far" and he could've had a bit more time to be helpful afterwards. Overall, Hacker's Memory is a great game that had like 90% of the time it needed to cook things, which is more than what most games get.

The "I love you. Lmao jk" moment is the worst thing in the whole fucking franchise. How dare they. I don't read fanfics but I've been told by fellow fans that there's a lot of them on AO3 specifically about removing the "gotcha" part of that scene.

I feel like I know so many people who simply just play cyber sleuth, praise it, then never play Hackers that I always love to see a fellow Hackers enjoyer, ive played most of the digimon games and its by far my favorite of them all.
This improved version of digimon game has successfully hacked into my memory and became a permanent part of it. I will never forget this game and I will never forget you, Erika.
Hacker's Memory was my 1st Digimon game by accident. I intended to play the 1st Cyber Sleuth before playing Hacker's Memory, but the lady at the (now closed) Gamestop swapped it out with Hacker's Memory. I bought CS thru PSN a few days later.
Hackers memory love solidarity! I adore this game so much and Hudie and its ending and it really feelsl ike Keisuke should have had more written dialogue. Im okay with Aiba being more of an insert but Keisuke just in his character animations and reactions had plenty of personality conveyed. Espicially when that little goof decides to do :3 faces. Also Betamon love for life!
As for why Arcadiamon was in under zero it's really funny because Cyber Sleuth much like Persona loves itself some religious symbology (Eater Eve, Eater Adam, Eden) and that goes for Arcadiamon as well or as I should use his JP name "Arkadimon". You may have remembered in the last game that his resting site was being guarded by A lone Knightmon who of course Digivolves in to Crusadermon. The whole arc seems to be a reference to the Knights Crusade and the Ark of the Covenant. Arcadiamon says one line when he awakens that being "Worlds Connected" seeming to suggest he needed that to occur to escape from his prison. I can't be sure as to the reason or means he was imprisoned to begin with though as the game doesn't really explore it sadly.
Nice to see such a recent video on this great game. I hope it's fine if I share one thing I thought about the ending of the game and a certain character. (spoilers) Personally I didn't like how everyone forgot about what happened in the "original" world. Especially Ryuji. With how important Erika was to him it felt incredibly bitter to have him not know about a person he loved so much. It makes me wonder how he would have felt with his memories. Would he have been able to accept her "death", knowing that somewhere in the digital world she is still alive and happy? It's sad that he didn't get that chance, but it's also interesting when considering Suedou's character. Most players I know disagreed with Suedou's belief that it's for the best to erase painful memories. But in a way that's what happend to the characters in the ending. They can't be sad about losing Erika without their memories of her.
Aside from Erika, I'll say that I overall prefer cyber sleuth's game/characters, something about seeing that cast kind of gives me pokemon black/white vibes with Cheren and Bianca and i like how the high staked plot went.
I played it right up to that one boss fight where its basically an auto loss if you dont have one specific mon and lost like, 6 hours worth of progress. Getting real sick and tired of games where team building is a selling point slapping in fights where you either completely give up the freedom to build your team how you want, or get stuck forever because you dont pass a random ass 'vibe check' they decided to slap you with. Couldnt be bothered to touch it again after that(Original Cyber Sleuth did something similar, but the game just makes you have one. Didnt even have to run it in your team for the fight, owning it got you pass that hurdle)
true, while i play Cyber Sleuth was like awesome adventure, i dont really can put myself in MC shoes to have.... what its called again? Emersion? while playing Hacker memories i was really blown away. the sceen that hold in my memories was when our Digimon appear in real word for our calling and the Ending. i really infested to my Digimon to grow, build the as really preffect as i liking and they suddenly appear really bring me to tears. this is what i like about digimon game. and the ending also kinda bitter sweet like.... arrgghhhhh i know i want Keisuke to have more better ending but to suddely get stoped because Keisuke online side watcher not the MC in Cyber Slueth kinda put me in bummer mood. like i know He not Him but holy hell Keisuke doing alot here in Real Wold so while MC taking those eater thingie the earth is in save from the harm. and the ending my Digimon will become Erika Vanguard is really warm my heart. i mean take this Alphamon Onryuken, Susanoomon, Gallantmon Burst mode, Omnimon normal and Black, Lilithmon, Imperial Dramon and Marine angemon, i sure there is still more but thats only i remember. She would very save with all those Digimon becoming her Vanguard, but yea its still sad and the side quest/Mission really Distrubing too sometimes. i Think this is they realize that Digimon Fanbase kinda growup and can take those genre. Thats also why they release the Visual Novel SRPG Digimon Survive? and Digimon Ghost game anine. they really wanna test how much fan base could taken the distrubing Digimon effect on Human body. but yea i hope those release gonna be good for Cyber Slueth 2 if its really gonna release.
Oh ok so I wasn't the only one who noticed Yu had an actual thing for the protag. I thought it was just an unhealthy relationship he had but he actually had a thing for him. And also the Arcadiamon thing i found it funny that it was guarded by only a Knightmon like just one Knightmon if i recall correctly it was Knightmon the previous protag had to fight. Something as scary as that shouldn't be guarded by just 1 Knightmon.
I bought a copy of the Complete Edition on Nintendo Switch for $23. The game is really enjoyable despite their flaws and it'll keep me busy while waiting for the new Story game centered around the Olympos XII. Though, I finished Hacker's Memory first cause Arkadimon is one of my favorite digimon of all time.
I kinda felt like the pacing was worse in this game. I haven't played the original Cyber Sleuth in some time but I don't remember it having such a slow first chapters. Also, didn't like how the games forces you to do side cases to advance the main story. I do get it given the context of the group but still found it pretty annoying. Specially from chapter 3-7. Also didn't enjoy the domination battles too much. If you don't do enough damage you get caught in this slog of a fight doing little bits of damage every 3 minutes or so. Leaving that aside though, I'm truly in love with the story, the characters and the overall theme of this game. This game has really strong and dark moments I didn't expect. The ending, even though it really pains me to remember it, it's also really beautiful and just well executed. Digimon games used to suck when I was a kid, so I'm absolutely glad to say that I'm expecting great things for the future of this series.
The humans are designed by the same person, so that makes sense. As for Arata though honestly yeah lol. You could have told me he was meant to visually be an alternate universe version of Hibiki, and I'd believe you.
5:45 YES. THANK YOU. OMG. As a fan of JRPGs it is so frustrating to have the genre be so held back by such a tired trope. Silent protags add little to no value to modern JRPGs. In fact, I'd say they're outright a detriment at this point. JRPGs with silent protags are already aging worse than those without, and it shows.
The "end" monitor has the sprites of your team? 20:03 I don't think I've seen the sprites for some of the newer mons in the series. Not gonna replay with a different team just because of this but it does seem neat
Yeah.. Those extremely dark cases like the one about dolls - in first game, or the ones about students cheating on exam & also the one about the rare coffee fanatic -in this game, are CLEARLY showing how actually fcked up the world of those games actually is.. Like.. It is straight up dystopian cyberpunk level of batshit crazy & dark things what could actually happen with this level of technology available.. So, despite the games not really trying to LOOK like they have Cyberpunk setting (world looks relatively normal overall, kinda similar to the real world we are live in) yet somehow it IS still makes you creeped out by all those possibilities of some terrifying stuff what could be done with enough advanced technologies in hands...
HM, having Hudie team interacting with each others gave them a bit more character compared to CS having most of the cast only to the Main character. Then HM having few life improvements, bigger roster and bosses more emotionally invested.
Also part of team "CS:HM is the better of the two" lol. My biggest issues definitely also came from the Yu plotline though. Spoilers below for all of the game, not just the Yu plotline (also this got stupidly long because i am incapable of being anything but verbose) (i don't know how many lines it takes to get youtube to do "read more" on a comment) (hopefully this is enough though. if not i'll edit it) So like, following what you pointed out in your vid, the queerbaiting with Yu was extremely frustrating. Someone else in the comments mentioned that the fakeout is removed in a lot of fics for the game, and I definitely stand by that fandom decision. Bandai can take what was otherwise a really cute/awkward romance away from my cold, dead, hands. Also, though, I think the K/Yu/Matadormon thing is particularly frustrating to me for a nitpicky "representative resemblance," lacking of a better descriptor. I think it's extremely cool that we see multiple digimon in the game take control of or share body/mindspace with a human (there's a quest with what I think was a Greymon possessing a guy, and then the whole Arcadiamon plotline). Hudiemon becoming the gestalt of Erika and Wormmon is a very cool example of this to me, because it offers a positive version of this blurring between digimon/human and subsequent (if maybe unintentional) plurality. It isn't so much me having a problem with the Yu plotline for coming close to plurality, especially since the Hudiemon resolution gives us a less "murder alter" adjacent version, but a lack of diversity in the goals of these digimon/human possession situations. Hudiemon is like, the only one that isn't "Digimon steals a human to commit crimes and atrocities." Being fair, this probably isn't something most people will actively pick up on or have issues with the same way I do (I'm a system with DID, and really fascinated with this kind of plural-adjacency in media). Body sharing and plural adjacent tropes are surprisingly common in a lot of media (and also a lot of Digimon stories). It just annoys me on top of the way the story seems to disrespect Yu, is all. Again, Hudiemon at least got the assignment, especially with the lead up showing us how Wormmon slowly loses more and more of himself to Erika's memories (I believe the story even points out how he loses his accent as he accesses Erika's memories more often-- or, well, I'm pretty sure it does? I know I recognized a gradual shift in his accent as the story proceeded, I just can't remember when the story actually pointed it out since it's been a while). That said, still excited for Digimon Story "Iliad" (still unnamed, gosh darn it). Bandai, I am begging you for more info already (but I hope the cook is worth it). And most importantly, I'm glad you got a chance to play HM, and also glad you enjoyed it so much. :) I know in your CS vid you dropped references to Tamers and Savers (good taste! I say as a biased "Savers is my favorite" guy lol), so it probably isn't a surprise that you ended up enjoying a set of games that really felt like they borrowed so heavily from Tamers and Savers in their stories. Wish I could give you recs for other Digimon games to try out, but unfortunately most of what I've played outside of CS/HM are the now defunct mobile games, weird MMOs, and Dusk. I am so, so happy to finally be in an era of being a Digimon fan where we can expect the games to come out in my region though. (Again, Digimon Story "Iliad" news *when* Bandai?)
Love both games, the second one feels like a expansion TBH. I only wish we had a more open ended digimon progression as stats and digievolutions are dragged from a fixed table. It could have more variability like other digimon games and I also wished it could have a bit better/more game + but it is only me iching to play more of something that I extracted everything I could from already.
That's funny, I just read a post on how Cyber Sleuth and Hackers Memory are the most overrated Digimon games ever XD. Your previous video made me go back to Cyber Sleuth, I stopped playing because I was stuck on the Jimiken boss fight and now I'm even more motivated to play it (even if it'll take a while) to get to Hackers Memory.
@@Berdomlikesgames no problem i should say im not 100% sure if it was cross wars or the next sesion of it with gumdramon but im pretty sure it was the first one
With the digimon liberators manga releasing and apparently being very good how would you feel if the next digimon story game was a tie in to liberators ? Having card game mechanics along side the normal digimon raising
@@Berdomlikesgames I wonder how it would work. I haven't yet read the manga ( definitely plan to) Raise a specific Digimon and get a card of them, do a characters side quest and get their tamer card. No clue how option cards would would though
Digimon World 3's card game was so good as a side game that a lot of people still want it as a standalone game. While the current Digimon tcg is way different, having the tcg in game would help Digimon as a whole a lot. The dw3 card game fans might get intrigued and play it while people who wouldn't usually play any card games can get some experience with the tcg. All in all only positives imo.
Now we just need to wait for Digimon Net Driver to release since official digimon games are not giving signals of being alive other than the card game.
Double comment but what if Yu attacks the guys during a major case and this make Ryuji angry at Keisuke for not telling them about K before, trying to divide them, and then let the game actually end with the two getting together in the new timeline, meaning that in the end Yu didn’t need to be stronger because he was enough for Keisuke, especially in a world where he didn’t need to make the choice between Yu and Erika who Keisuke clearly had feelings for both of
I still like the previous one more mainly cause you could play as a girl. I get they removed the option so you can play as a specific person instead of a self insert but i prefer being myself honestly
I liked Hackers Memory but by god I hated that ending. Either way both games were a great next step for the story series, I just wish they leaned a little more into some of the goofier concepts but I am happy about the hacker groups being a lot like the Tamer Unions.
I’m playing hackers memory before cyber sleuth. And one more thing, so I need to turn the game to hard mode to not be too easy but wouldn’t that make the game too hard???

This improved version of digimon game has successfully hacked into my memory and became a permanent part of it. I will never forget this game and I will never forget you, Erika.
Hacker's Memory was my 1st Digimon game by accident. I intended to play the 1st Cyber Sleuth before playing Hacker's Memory, but the lady at the (now closed) Gamestop swapped it out with Hacker's Memory. I bought CS thru PSN a few days later.
A fantastic video, mate. I am also super keen for the next game too. I love the Olympos 12 and so excited we are getting a game based around them!
This is a Digimon game that Pokémon fans would like
Great video man. Would love to see a longer version.
Hackers memory came out 6 years ago???
Brb, I’m booking a room at an elderly home
I really cried at the end 🙈
14:42
Ah yes. The Persona style dating sim with Renamon that a specific section of the fanbase has been wanting for years.
Omnimon, Gallantmon, Mastemon and the Burst Mode Digimon were standing around Hudimon with my group, plus another I can't remember.
Hacker's Memory is also my favorite!
9:53 Wait, Wait, Wait?! Did you not just use the TV in the agency to dive into Eden?
Up until a recent comment, I legitimately didn't realize I could honestly.
Nice to see such a recent video on this great game.
I hope it's fine if I share one thing I thought about the ending of the game and a certain character. (spoilers)
Personally I didn't like how everyone forgot about what happened in the "original" world.
I like this even more than Pokemon, great video
Arkadymon has also an official brief appearance in Digimon Xross Wars as one of Lilithmon’s henchemen. 18:27
Great vid but man do you really need to end the vid with erika memory im crying again
Aside from Erika, I'll say that I overall prefer cyber sleuth's game/characters, something about seeing that cast kind of gives me pokemon black/white vibes with Cheren and Bianca and i like how the high staked plot went.
Never played it, great video.
This was my favorite too. wish it lasted longer.
Something funny is that i always use k as my character name so you can imagine the confusion that created.
I would really love for a third Digimon story cybersleuth game
My man had blocked out cheat strategie, and until you mentioned it again, I hadn't thought about it anymore. Now My stomach hurts
The Humans in this look like they're from Devil Survivor hell this guy 0:02
Looks like an Angry Hibiki Kuze from Devil Survivor 2
The humans are designed by the same person, so that makes sense. As for Arata though honestly yeah lol. You could have told me he was meant to visually be an alternate universe version of Hibiki, and I'd believe you.
@@Berdomlikesgames Really, I didn't know the same character designer worked on these games. I actually like the designs too.
5:45
YES. THANK YOU.
You get the sprite version of all the Digimon if you get the dotted status
@@SensesEU huh how have I not noticed that. Maybe I did and just forgot. Thanks!
Hugs for Hudie! 🫂
Aesthetic screams Soul Hackers, characters design screams Devil Survivor especially OverClock
Question of The Video: Which Cyber Sleuth Game do you prefer and why?
HM, having Hudie team interacting with each others gave them a bit more character compared to CS having most of the cast only to the Main character.
Then HM having few life improvements, bigger roster and bosses more emotionally invested.
HM, they feel more human
Also part of team "CS:HM is the better of the two" lol. My biggest issues definitely also came from the Yu plotline though.
Spoilers below for all of the game, not just the Yu plotline
(also this got stupidly long because i am incapable of being anything but verbose)
(i don't know how many lines it takes to get youtube to do "read more" on a comment)
(hopefully this is enough though. if not i'll edit it)
So like, following what you pointed out in your vid, the queerbaiting with Yu was extremely frustrating.
Hudiemon is like, the only one that isn't "Digimon steals a human to commit crimes and atrocities."
Being fair, this probably isn't something most people will actively pick up on or have issues with the same way I do (I'm a system with DID, and really fascinated with this kind of plural-adjacency in media).
The matadormon fight is ”tutorial“ on held items, your supposed to get 3 held items that block panic
Love both games, the second one feels like a expansion TBH. I only wish we had a more open ended digimon progression as stats and digievolutions are dragged from a fixed table. It could have more variability like other digimon games and I also wished it could have a bit better/more game + but it is only me iching to play more of something that I extracted everything I could from already.
cajolery can be prevented by equiping confusion immune gear.
Its been so long i might replay especially since i forgot most of the plot because its been so long
Great video. Pretty sure it’s pronounced “Who-Dee”
So you can transfer the spirits of Fire and Light into a new game of base Cyber Sleuth along with the ability to use Arcadiamon
Go for it dude!!!
arkadiamon was also in digimon cross wars for i think 1 or 3 eps :D
Thank you for pointing that out! I never caught that in my research for this video at all.
@@Berdomlikesgames no problem i should say im not 100% sure if it was cross wars or the next sesion of it with gumdramon but im pretty sure it was the first one
Great job
Was 40% into the game and stopped playing it because the grinding was so boring. I could play it again after this video.
This is my favorite Pokemon game ever
With the digimon liberators manga releasing and apparently being very good how would you feel if the next digimon story game was a tie in to liberators ? Having card game mechanics along side the normal digimon raising
I'd be down for that! Honestly, I've been really interested in trying out the card game for a while.
@@Berdomlikesgames I wonder how it would work.
I haven't yet read the manga ( definitely plan to)
Raise a specific Digimon and get a card of them, do a characters side quest and get their tamer card.
All in all only positives imo.
accurately, Arkadimon, the data-sucking digimon, in his debut appearance, V-tamers soloed an injured mega on his rookie leveol, so that check out
I'm making sure that Erika is going to have the most overpower team of Digimons.
Now we just need to wait for Digimon Net Driver to release since official digimon games are not giving signals of being alive other than the card game.
Double comment but what if Yu attacks the guys during a major case and this make Ryuji angry at Keisuke for not telling them about K before, trying to divide them, and then let the game actually end with the two getting together in the new timeline, meaning that in the end Yu didn’t need to be stronger because he was enough for Keisuke, especially in a world where he didn’t need to make the choice between Yu and Erika who Keisuke clearly had feelings for both of
i wonder if eater eden was also meant to look a bit like a tree, *as well as* a brain. like... there's already so many biblical references, why not
I still like the previous one more mainly cause you could play as a girl. I get they removed the option so you can play as a specific person instead of a self insert but i prefer being myself honestly
i think if they were gonna remove that option then the mc might as well have talked instead of being a self insert
Best game in franchise is def Next order
Hacker Memory make me very very sad U_U
I liked Hackers Memory but by god I hated that ending. Either way both games were a great next step for the story series, I just wish they leaned a little more into some of the goofier concepts but I am happy about the hacker groups being a lot like the Tamer Unions.
This game is a really good rpg
nah it's not that the mc dosent talk he just communicates like silent Bob
Whatmean not closer eden spot in cyber sleuth the tv can be used for getting to eden right their in the office
I’m playing hackers memory before cyber sleuth. And one more thing, so I need to turn the game to hard mode to not be too easy but wouldn’t that make the game too hard???
