  • In this video, our Commercial Director Joe discusses the different types of ducting that we have available here at Cotterill Civils, and the different applications they can be used for. This video is filmed in our own stockyard, and highlights the amount of ducting that we keep in stock ready for immediate dispatch.
    What is ducting?
Ducting is a type of pipe which is designed to protect cables transporting different elements such as water, electricity or gas. A duct is designed to protect the service cable or pipe from damage and alert others to the presence of the duct in the ground. With our ducting pipe, the external layer has a corrugated profile which gives the product added strength, whilst the internal bore is smooth to prevent cables from snagging. It is important to choose a diameter that allows plenty of room within the duct to allow the cable or cables to be drawn through smoothly. Ducting pipes are resistant to chemicals, abrasion, and UV radiation, making them suitable for use in a variety of environments. Lastly, we stock ducting pipe in a wide variety of diameters and sizes, to accommodate the majority of installation requirements.
What are the different types of ducting?
    Electricity - Black
    CCTV - Green
    Water - Blue
    Gas - Yellow
    Motorway Communication - Purple
    Street Lighting - Orange
    Traffic Signals - Orange
    Telecommunications (BT) - Grey
Picking the correct colour for the ducting pipe is essential. This is because the colour of the ducting represents the content inside, so it can quickly and easily alert others in instances of further groundworks.
What types of ducting are available?
Our ducting is available in both flexible and rigid structures. If the product is being used for longer runs, then flexible ducting would be more appropriate, as it can bend to the contours of the space whilst still retaining its strength. Rigid ducting will be better suited to shorter runs.Twinwall duct is used where additional strength is required, such as below paths and roads.
