It doesn't get any better than this!!! The sheer talent on that stage is off the hook from Donald "Duck" Dunn on bass to Steve Cropper on guitar is just unreal....Thanks so much for posting this this morning, I needed a shot of soul to get me going ❤
That's like a Dream Team for sure!! I'm a total fan of Steve Cropper, I saw him like 20 years ago in Tenerife and had the chance of saying thanks to him for his amazing work. Also Lou Marini was here in the 2010s, another great performance.
Duck was one of my Dad’s golfing buddies in the Memphis area, the club was actually in Olive Branch MS. He always had that pipe in his mouth even when he was swinging at the ball. He was a laid back quiet guy, basically just like in the movie.
THANK YOU MIDNIGHT SPECIAL!!! If not for Steve Cropper, I don't believe Fender Telecasters would have the reputation they do. He's their figurehead as far as I'm concerned.
That's because Sam & Dave were the inspiration for John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd to do the Blues Brothers. First on SNL and later in the movie which has also Steve Cropper (guitarist) and Donald "Duck" Dunn (bassist) in the movie as part of their entourage
I will never forget this song. I had two guy friends who would take over the dance floor and show everyone just how two white guys had a whole lot of soul! 🕺🕺 Good Times... Awesome memories! Happy Tuesday.... thank you for sharing! 💖
This groove is massive, a force of nature. The best of the best talent on that stage combined with miraculous sound production for a 1974 television show. Something very special captured here, one we shall not see again.
Hah! That was a ferocious performance! They had the crowd moving and grooving! I loved the bass player with his pipe, and the horn section was awesome! Of course, Sam and Dave were the "soul men," but I can't help but think of Jake and Elwood. Haha. Great week of songs so far! 🤩😍
This message goes out to the younger generation...pay close attention cause this is how to do it! You've got to have some soul, along with a dash of some funk & a whole lot of talent to come close to this level of greatness.
It seems like Al Jackson judging by his posture and playing at the beginning. Compare that to older clips from the 1967 Stax Volt revue. Hard to tell with the big sunglasses.
2 of the greatest to ever do it. If I could sing like 1 person it would be a toss up between Paul McCartney or Sam Moore. That Atlantic Records stable..Sam & Dave, Otis, Pickett, Aretha, Booker T, Cropper, Dunn etc.. Sweet Merciful Crap!!
Great song. Excellent performance. Sam hit it out of the park. Question for the musicians. Was Dave off key when he was singing the low harmony to "soul man" or is it just the huge contrast between Sam's high voice and Dave's low voice that make it seem that way. However, Dave seemed to be right on the mark though when he was singing " I like what you do...." at the end.
He was a bit off at first. They were a little older here and yes part of it is the the difference in natural registers. Dave either wasn't hearing right or just straining to hit the notes with his deep husky voice.
Can anyone tell me what they are? All I can make out is Steve Cropper on guitar and Donald Duck Dunn on bass. But the other members don't look like bookers.

Blue Lou Marini on sax!

And Al Jackson Jr. on drums!
Right on soul brother ♡
This is everything current popular music is lacking!
The bass player with the pipe is the coolest guy in the room.
Donald "Duck" Dunn
@@Lance37a The pipe, lit and burning, was sort of his trademark for a number of years.
Duck was one of my Dad’s golfing buddies in the Memphis area, the club was actually in Olive Branch MS. He always had that pipe in his mouth even when he was swinging at the ball. He was a laid back quiet guy, basically just like in the movie.
Killed him too
Donald "Duck" Dunn, coolest guy in the planet and a heck of a bass player too!!!
Thankful for the churches and gospel choirs that taught them how to sing like this, with nothing held back.
Oh yeah
THANK YOU MIDNIGHT SPECIAL!!!
If not for Steve Cropper, I don't believe Fender Telecasters would have the reputation they do. He's their figurehead as far as I'm concerned.
wow. what a performance! Steve and Duck!
Play it Steve!
Sam Moore, one of the great soul singers ever, Dave Prater, present and accounted for
Sam and Dave was a class act still listening 🎶 in 2024
A song that never gets old. Play it anywhere, anytime.
Got a little Blues Brothers vibe going on this morning. That's good, that's good.
That's because Sam & Dave were the inspiration for John Belushi and Dan Aykroyd to do the Blues Brothers. First on SNL and later in the movie which has also Steve Cropper (guitarist) and Donald "Duck" Dunn (bassist) in the movie as part of their entourage
Same and Dave created the song, then performed on SNL. Steve Cropper and Donald "Duck" Dunn were in the band for The Blues Brothers Movie.
These were the originals!!!
I love the Blues Brothers movie, but please get this straight!!
All the way live! Looks like the original MG's and Mar Keys on top! Truly a legendary performance on so many levels. Keep it coming!
Al Jackson Jr. on drums with fellow MGs Steve Cropper and Duck Dunn
Booker T Jones is there too on the organ...
Another great Sam & Dave song.
A great 60s duo. 😊
Almost impossible to beat the energy, soul and musicianship!! Thanks Midnight Special for keeping this music alive!!
I will never forget this song.
I had two guy friends who would take over the dance floor and show everyone just how two white guys had a whole lot of soul! 🕺🕺

One of the BEST songs EVER!!!!
I totally concur!

Can't beat a live performance!

Absolutely correct.

That pipe smokin' Bass player was none other than Donald (Duck) Dunn
OMG, not just Sam and Dave the front men, but the Stax band, Booker T and the MGs. Can't believe I ran across this.

Love the funky beat ❤
Steve Cropper got himself a rosewood Telecaster.
George Harrison had one as well.
@@Lance37a Fender gave him one, and another one to Elvis. Elvis hated it and sent it back. Maybe that's the one, who knows?
@@walterrizotto8668Both Memphis guys, so could be true.
The bass line!
Great old school R & B. Remember this since I was a tot.
When I was a kid I used to think they were singing "I was so mad" Lol
Simply a magnificent classic!
Timeless one of the kind performance, beautiful!👍
The..., Two Amigos....😎🎼🎸
This just made me smile.
Dammit now that’s real Soul and R&B. Live on
Wow. Just simply wow.
Great stuff. Giving it their all. What a band!
“PLAY IT STEVE!!” ❤️🎶
Awesome!!! It's a reunion!!
Still works for me.
Grandiose Stimmen.💜
Appreciate you Pops! RIP.
Gary Wright 😢.
Was hoping for Gary Wright too...all the Midnight Special vidz with him have been overdub with studio tracks 😞
@@ravynskye1310Maybe they'll upload it tomorrow morning. They didn't have much notice.
Another great one gone.
The original Blues Brothers

Memories from Rochester NY. Moms and Pops! RIP
Wow. Great. Really Outstanding.
The Blues Brothers brought me here
Wow, such a great song, incredible that the Blues Brothers were able to recreate it so well. And so much fun to play on bass...
Donald Duck Dunn is the epitome of cool!
sooooull men🎤
So nice video¡¡Thank you guys¡¡
Genius 🎶
This is class, I was brought up on this stuff, love it
Play it steve!
This is from 1974. Possibly this very performance influenced Belushi & Akroyd to create the Blues Brothers later on.
Class act all the way.
Would like to hear the Temptations sing their soungs.
Those horns!!!
Think about that band back in the day.........Do ya'll hear that!!!!!!!!
Live music nothing better
Nick Tahoe's Sausage. Colt 45 and Seagram's Gin. Love you Moms and Pops; Ms. Robbie, Ms Dorris, Ms Seal, Mr. Frank!!
Is this Booker T and the MGs backing them? Al Jackson on drums?
Only Cropper and Duck Dunn are here from the MGs.
It seems like Al Jackson judging by his posture and playing at the beginning. Compare that to older clips from the 1967 Stax Volt revue. Hard to tell with the big sunglasses.
Duck with the pipe!
Steve and Duck ,What a team.

Donald 'Duck' Dunn is so good
"Jeffery? Break out Lucille!". Miss you, uncle Phil.

"Soul Man" is anthology's song¡¡

Wind instruments sound funny.

Fellow MG Al Jackson Jr on drums
Veteran L.A. session player Jim Horn is the tenor saxophone on far left.
I think the trumpet player and sax player next to him are “The Memphis Horns” - Wayne Jackson and Andrew Love.
Thank you everyone!
Duck Dunn with the pipe........
Jake and Elwood brought me here.
Interesting that they are doing the later arrangement rather than the original.
Oh, I always thought this was a Blues Brothers song
👽
Duck Dunn is driving the train
steve cropper
Great performance. Does anyone have any idea who the drummer was? Earl Palmer would be my guess.
Al Jackson Jr. Drummer for the MGs.
@@rbnh9827.. thanks
Got to have the horns to get that fat sound.
