I love old XRs, these were road legal in NZ back in the 80s (so were TT's ITs etc) I had a 81 200 when they were new, and rode it to highschool, thought i was King Sh*t because i could pull massive wheelies on it 🤣🤣🤣 Then i started doing Enduros and Hare scrambles so got an 83 IT 175, and later a 490, but that was too much, and was almost dangerous on the road, kobbly tyres and a savage power band don't make for relaxed riding😆😆
@@TomsTinkeringandAdventures Yeah those 500cc 2 strokes were beasts all right, I preferred the 250s, I didn't have the skill to really master the 500s😆
Had a chance to buy one of these a few years back& passed, regret it now! If memory serves Honda also had a dry sump & oil- in -the -frame on the street going Nighthawk S back in the day. Another bike that was on my wish list 👍
Well just installed 3 Kral manifold clamps on the Suburban. No more exhaust leak ticking sounds. Or engine light (Exhaust leak code). Guess its common for those bolts to break on those LS motors. Still have that 225 sitting in the office waiting for a rebuild. :D
Nice bike don’t recall the 350 and 400 in NZ 200 250 and 500 were popular I have a 500 rfvc rd bike retro style gb strong bottom end tops a bit fragile

I had a YZ490, what a beast! I have all the stuff to do a basic beautification on this bike, better get it done soon.

@@uhtred7860 Yes, it was way too much bike for me but it was cheap so I bought it. What a learning adventure.

This is a great machine, can’t believe they made it only one year. I always liked the look of the Nighthawk S.
Nothing like an oil change for a little garage zen
Have to keep this little gem maintained.

My truck has that exhaust tick, Ram with the Hemi engine…common there, too.
Wish I had one of those bikes so that I too could change the oil!!!😢
Good luck, not sure how many are still around but it’s a great machine. Probably put more miles in this one than all the bikes in your garage?

I’m always interested in different models in different countries. 500’s are difficult to find parts for, from what I’ve heard.
Nice! Where did you get the stickers?
