    Don't worry, we added lifesteal or armor to every class! Now dealing 15 damage directly from hand doesn't matter as hanbuffed hollow hound just heals the hunter to full or a few elementals give the mage full plate armor over the max health! What do you mean that makes no thematic sense?

    Hearthstone has become so stupidly op that stats don't even matter anymore. Rarely something survives a turn on board no matter the stats.
    You just care about the text, which usually is basically "Clear board", "Create board", "Fill your hand" or "Play this along some other obvious combo to get one of the other 3 but even more bullshit".
    Having those is fine, the issue is, they are so good at that that just seems like a yes/no state, instead of actual trades. There is no slow buildup, just stupidly high aggresion agaisnt stupidly good board clear every single turn.

    I think that all criticism is valid in this regard.
    I remember seeing many complaints about the much slower pace of the game back then and it was valid criticism from their perspective IMO.
    But the same people are now telling the players who actually enjoyed the slower pace of the game to play another game instead of complaining even though their criticism is just as valid.
    They have every right to complain about how things have developed since then because they are the ones who got invested into a game that they really liked and that only changed for the worse from their perspective.
    Too bad that instead of trying to find a middle ground, both parties are just mad at each other for having opposing opinions and preferences (a ubiquitous problem nowadays).
    I do believe that the devs are trying their best to make everyone happy but it's an impossible task when most feedback they get is just extreme opinions from both ends of the spectrum.

    I abandoned HS a few years ago because of the powercreep (I played exclusively in Wild) and the stress of having to play every time against the same "reprinted" cards cannot be explained! In my opinion you solve the powercreep by removing the cards from the game from which they were inspired for the powerup, better to leave the stronger cards than to have 10 cards with the same effect and some extras

    • @GunnuX
      @GunnuX 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Stop crying! Powercreep is not the problem with wild mode, but rather the existence of anti-game cards. Example: 1) That damn druid card that makes both players draw an additional card per turn. 2) The neutral's legendary steals a card from the opponent's hand and gives one of your cards to the opponent. Wild mode is full of decks that make the opponent burn cards!! WILD MODE HAS NEVER BALANCED! THE GAME OWNER DOESN'T CARE ABOUT THIS MODE, HE JUST BANS THE PROBLEMATIC CARDS OR CHANGES THE EFFECT... The nerf in the mage questline killed the card! I'm waiting for the nerf in the warlock questline! But they will never do anything useful for wild mode! WILD MODE IS THE HEARTHSTONE TRASH CAN!! THE GAME OWNER DOESN'T CARE ABOUT WILD MODE BALANCE!!

    Thank you for this video, I have stopped playing standard and wild because of this issue. Huge board sways in one turn are ridiculous. You can play a fairly even game and boom in one turn your opponent wins without a really hard win condition. Nowadays I only play battlegrounds and arena and I don't intend to look back. Hopefully at some point I will accept the state of affairs and fully uninstall the game.

    2 things I have never understood-

      by the definition of balance in tabletop and ccgs, this is factually leading to issues. it technically does allow better balance, giving all classes more tools, but they need to tone back the aggression level by half at least. I made a post about miracle salesman on reddit, most people seem to think a 1 mana 2/2 with upside is actually balanced relative to the meta. OOF!!!

    I think the game pacing was way faster back in 2014 even if you were playing against slower decks such as control warrior simply because there wasn't too many cards with effects that would take up too much time on their effect resolution. If you put horizon's edge against knife juggler just as an example, the fact that knife juggler is easily removed and will resolve all his effects automatically while horizon's edge can't be removed in most situations and has to be manually activated (which doesn't only mean the player has to click on it, but also have to think if he should use it) makes horizon's edge take way more time to resolve. This kind of effect complexity cards gained along the years and gets more and more common nowadays obviously takes way more time to resolve than the simpler effects from back then.
    And people would tell me "yeah, right... how about yogg or shudderwok?" But we all know that these cards were notorious because of that, are one of a kind, are lengendaries, supposed to be finishers and these also were not from the early hearthstone, more like mid era hearthstone or so... definitely not just some random rare card that could fit in any deck

    Just my opinion , designing the game ending game in 5 turns seems like an approach to cater the mobile game market. Comparing playing against control druid or control warrior which makes me holding my phone 30 minutes just to end 1 game like before, i would prefer play a game that ends within 5 minutes while waiting my public transport to work. However, this will dissatisfy those players who played the game for long, as it will cause the gaming experience into something totally different. It is like at first 2 players fighting each other using a club and people are having fun on the club fight. However as time goes, the game introduce rifles, or even infinity ammo plasma rifle with auto target function, which turns the club fight into a gun fight. The feeling is even worse when you are using a club against an atomic bazooka player which destroy you and all of your belongings very easily if you are just holding a club. Yes, with some dirty tricks, you can still beat the atomic bazooka player when timing is right, but it is not fun to play against the atomic bazooka player like this. it is tiring and boring to play the game as the fight is extremely unfair. it takes you so many club hit and effort to beat the atomic bazooka player, but all the atomic bazooka take to win is just hitting you with 1 shot, which can be very easily done with splash damage. Not everyone who likes the club fight will like the experience of gun fight as well, hence the frustration.

      You’re not entirely wrong but battlegrounds is hugely popular and if you make top 4 it can take a good 45 minutes. I only play mobile and I’d say 80% of the time I play battlegrounds and 20% of the time I play wild.

  • @KnownAsKenji
    @KnownAsKenji 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Dora makes a good point, in a game this old, power creep is something that's nearly impossible to avoid. Its seen in many card games and even some games in totally different genres. Hearthstone tried their best in the early years but eventually knew they had to cave in and make Wild a thing. Similar deal with meta and meta mentalities, which kinda tie in together to make the game seem like its 'worse' only on that merit. Blizzard's made plenty of mistakes with Hearthstone over the years, and it's easy to rope powercreep/meta in with that, but they're really a different monster, one that no game developer has ever truly defeated, and maybe never will. I still wish they could do better, but accept that they can't, in this case.

  • @zeleros4027
    @zeleros4027 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    While you are correct in that much design has removed restrictions on powerful abilities, I think it's not really grasping the full picture. You mention in the beginning of the video that power creep has been a topic since the first expansion, but you don't talk about what kind of discussion that was. We had power creep that was obvious but sort of funny to point out. The basic set has a 5 mana 5/4 taunt, while The Grand Tournament had a 4 mana 5/4 taunt. Very obvious that one was just better and clear power creep. While you had iterations on designs like the ones shown in the video, a lot of discussion was around why power creep was even a thing in a game where you could change older cards. Why waste a card spot in an expansion with a slightly improved version of an old card instead of something new?
    The focus on power creep has shifted over the years, most notably in recent expansions. The reason is because the power creep isn't just small iterations or shifts in a card, but rather massively pushed power spikes. It's not just that they aren't as restrictive, but they are game warping with little to no downsides to create actual balance. Often cards have no downside what so ever and are pure upside. Often cards create oppressive or polarizing game effects. Or often cards don't even cost mana anymore. It's hard to compare something like knife juggler, which could cause some frustration but also had plenty of ways a player could influence the effect, with the likes of Doomkin which just straight up stops people from playing the game. It's two completely different games at this point.

      Good example of powercreep over Sylvanas, for sure. Costs (1) less for each minion that died this game in a class that's expected to lose minions (in case your opponent's minions weren't enough). The stat line's worse but that's arguably better because the Deathrattle triggers more easily.
      Not to mention the Nathria Sylv which does what you want instantly and targeted. Not as good as Reska, of course.

    Horizon's Edge: Location: summon a 1/1 with rush and give it deathrattle "if this dies on your turn deal 3 damage randomly to enemies and reopen this location"
    THIS location, you can't use it to open both. They have to have minions on the board, like before, but if you're unlucky and don't end up with 1 hp enemy minion surviving to trigger it again they kill your 1/1 next turn and that location use is wasted. Also freezing trap is a counter (minor).
    The location does still need to be openable (I don't play this card but I know it's true otherwise it's useless) "once per your turn any of your minions dying will open this".
    You need to manage your minion deaths and attacks a little better, but its still good.

    These are nice examples how power creep improved.. but the problem is still the same.. the hidden mechanics behind the cards.. like too powerful removers and their recycle options, deck destroy, OTK, too powerful aggro, mainly with charge.. battlecries trigger 2-3 times for some classes.. building up 20 armor on 30 HP in the first 5 rounds, insane amount of resource generating.. these are the mechanics which are killing the game in my opinion. The only hope left is the card rotation and the hope developers will stop this madness already.. I believe they would like to create FUN mechanics for players that is OK.. But they are just not considering how frustrating can be to play AGAINST these for the Opponent and not just the winner needs to have fun.. but also the loser as well.. If it sees no chance for winning at all.. then there is no fun..

  • @dwreanchinotan
    @dwreanchinotan 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

    really, if we had indirect counters that can stand on their own for their own decks it might not be as bad.
    for instance, for all these random damage effects, think gurubashi berserker. you can't just ignore it and press the random damage button, your face is going to hurt. then of course you have whirlwind and inner rage to make it hurt on it's own and other cards that do the same. the problem is that it didn't do good enough when it was released and now we don't have ANY cards like it. the problem of shunting ALL the cards into wild instead of the outliers.
