If your best mate lives opposite you, travels to work every day with you, works along side you all day long and comes on holiday with you too! This series was let down with quite amateur production. But Jimmy McGovern is an excellent writer. You should try watching The Street, if you can find it. Much better production values, along with excellent acting and scripts.
The production team didn’t do justice to JM’s excellent writing. The tacky music is louder than then the voice track and poorly cut. The acting is rather bad, specially from the kids. JM programmes are usually very life like, this certainly looks like very typical bad, day time tv.

Steve Wright wrote the music for the series, I'm guessing it's called Moving on. I had a good scout for the singer but not a sausage about it.
Chris O'Neil wrote the title music... there isn't much about but if you could contact Jimmy McGovern who was behind the series, he would know.
I loved a song in one of the other episodes but unfortunately it seems like the songs were especially made just for the show
