Just found your channel in preparation for an upcoming PCS move + to get content ideas to document the process on my social platforms, I found this video super helpful!
@@LifeWithElisse Yes it is :) This video was super helpful! My husband is civilian so it’s definitely giving me a better idea at what we’ll be looking at when I get my PCS orders
@@LifeWithElisse hey could I get an estimate of how much weight your goods came out too and how much was reimbursed excluding travel expenses? Can’t seem to find any examples online
I don’t know the weight of my goods and I did not get any money reimbursement because I had the Army do my move. You have to use move.mil to fill the form out to see how much you will receive. I sorry I could not be more help to you but I have never done a DITY/PPM move. The form on move.mil should walk you through it; you also have the option to go to the transportation office at your current duty station to have them assist you.
What if i didnt have a good cppa and i was told to just check all the boxes as “I do not want advances” and didn’t realize what these things meant until after the fact… really wish i saw this sooner
I’m confused. We were told the military would pay to ship one vehicle, and pay for gas on the other vehicle, and we only get 3 travel days. I don’t know how everything completely works due to lack of information. Although I know enough due to working in on base lodging and seeing a lot of guests PCSing
Great advice. My situation is a little different. My husband is getting stationed to Korea and my son and I are not going. This gives my husband only a year in Korea and when he gets back we will be getting stationed somewhere else. I no longer want to stay where I am. My son and I plan on living in another state next to family. However, the military will NOT pay for this move. I’m trying to see if there’s anyway you know if the military will pay? Other than that looks like we will do a DITY move without reimbursement.
I’m pretty sure the military will not pay for that move. If you knew your husband’s next station, I’ve seen where the military pays to move a family to that duty station early. Sorry I couldn’t be more help. Thank you so much for watching the video.
My husband is active duty army. I don’t know if it would work the same. But can I just move our own stuff? My husband graduates AIT next week I have everything packed and I didn’t take a picture of anything. Could I just move it myself we own an enclosed trailer and I packed everything in there already. Would we be reimbursed for moving our own stuff? Video was great btw 😊
Just to clarify , the military movers will pack up my house from my hometown, (where I lived before I joined the military) after I’m out of basic training and A School ? And bring it to my first duty station? Thank you. 😊
We are moving to Washington State from North Carolina. Who issues the government travel card? If you use it, does the military pay it off? It's going to be a 45 hour drive for us so I am super nervous because it's going to get really expensive
Are you going to your, or your spouse, first duty station from AIT. If yes: you do not have to get a government travel card . You will pay for everything up front and be reimbursed with your entitlements. If no: the service member should get one from his/her unit. All service members are required to have one. When you use it for your move, the government will pay the you your entitlements after in-processing, and that is what you will use to pay off your Card. No need to be nervous, PCSing is very straightforward. You got this🥳
Does anyone know if can we have the military move us if my husband is re-enlisting? He was out for about 3 months, and was an E-4 and will most likely go in as an E-4. We are in California and we might have to go to New York, Louisiana, or Texas, which would be a very expensive move. I know they can pay us on the back end (reimburse) but I'm not sure we can afford to even get out there. I'm so worried and stressed even though I don't know where we're going yet!
If the military movers are booked up, Can we get a different moving company and get reimbursed for that? This is my first PCS and it’s been so hectic due to the pandemic. 🤦🏽♀️
Hey No, they will not pay for your movers. You would have to do a DITY move and have the truck weighed. The military will reimburse you based on the weight of your items. Make sure you know your weight limits and keep the receipts for everything.
Hi my husband graduates soon from AIT, I was wondering what did you mean as long as it’s not your first pcs,? Does that mean your first move, your not entitled to DLA.
We are about to PCS from Ga to Wa 1st PCS and they are giving us hell with this move now I understand if permitted tdy days everything comes out of pocket , but we were told that’s the time when we are suppose to pack and move our things so do you still get per diem? If you move during tdy days and also if we have no house yet in Washington will the tle kick in until we find one? So confused 🤦🏻♂️
If you are on TDY you will not get per diem. Question, are you at WA already? For TLE, You should check into the the hotel athe your current or new duty station, and claim those nights as TLE during you finance portion of in-processing.
@@LifeWithElisse she is in Washington going through in -processing , we are still in Ga she was never suppose be in Washington yet from what her 1sgt said she was suppose to come home after AIT we pack and all go to Washington together but her AIT unit told her to wait. Now she is having to apply for tdy to come home so we can pack and leave so if we don’t get per diem it puts us at paying for everything with no reimbursement .
Just to be clear, are you married to the service member? You should still be eligible for per diem for your, and any kids, travel. The service member may not qualify while On TDY. I was able to leave for my husband’s duty station before he got there and he was able to claim my per diem travel and TLE for hotel stay. He just shipped to the new duty instead of picking me up. I cant guarantee that this would be the case for you, but hopefully this can ease your mind and point you in the right direction.
@@LifeWithElisse yes we are married I got out of the military and she got in but I was guard so never had to deal with all this but thank you for your insight it was definitely helpful thank you so much! 🙏🏼
It seems the military likes to relocate MEPS is allowing me to pick from a short list of duty stations as I am returning to the army I have since married and my wife and I have been looking to buy a house...will I have to PCS if I have a house payment using my BHA and if so would buying a house be wise?
Thank you for watching! Yes, you will have to PCS and the military does not account for the fact if you have a house payment. They will move you based on needs of the Army. Even if your wife does not PCS with you and continues to lives in the house, you will get paid the BAH of where you are PCSd, not where your house is. This can be a scary thought with how much the military moves you, so you will have to decide what is right for your family. Some advice I could give you to aid you decision is to (1) get a house with a mortgaged that below your BAH if you are a single income family, (2) understand what it would take to find renters, or buyers(If you need to sell). Are you planning on using the VA Loan if you buy? If so, I have a video coming up that could help you with that process.
Are you prior service who have reenlisted? MEPS allowed you to choose a duty station? I am in the process of reenlisting with a waiver that has been approved! Now just waiting for MEPS to give me a date for my physical and then I'll be choosing a new MOS and head off to AIT.
Thank you for watching! The best advice I could give you is to wait until after he graduates from AIT school. His chain of command should help him through the PCSing process. You will qualify for most of the benefits listed in this video. If you share the tips from this video with your husband it could help him know the right questions to ask to make sure he gets all of the entitlements.
Do you have any information on leave en route. What’s the reason for not getting a DLA for the first PCS. So there is nothing you can do but pay from your own pocket for lodging while house hunting?
Hey!!! Thank you for watching my video. I don't know why DLA is not available to first time PCS moves, but DLA is not what pays for your lodging. Per Diem and TLE is what pays for lodging while house hunting. and you do qualify for those benefits on all your PCS moves, including the first one. Currently, during COVID, I don't believe you get leave during your PCS move; you only get travel days to get to your next duty station. My most recent video goes over my experience PCSing during COVID if you would like more info.
Thank you for watching. They will pick up from storage and your home. You have to just put both pick up location in your move.mil application. If you need items to to be place on storage at your new duty station, you can also put in both drop off location (ie. home & Storage) in you move.mil application. I could be wrong but think the limit is 2 pick up and 2 drop off locations per application.
My family is at Los Angeles I just graduated AIT they sent me straight to ft Carson I have yet to bring my family to ft Carson I’m in processing at the moment can I claim entitlements now?
My husband just got orders and were PCS’ing to Alaska. He’s supposed to leave on the 9th. He’s coming straight from basic training & OSUT. Can I pick him up and we drive to his next duty station or does he HAVE to fly to his next duty station and do the in processing without my daughter and I?
Thank you so much for watching and the question. I don’t know the specifics for your situation. His Chain of command will fill him in on what will happen with you and you family. Make sure you stay on top of your spouse to get the info to you so that you can make a plan. Sorry I could not be more help to you.
Hello your video was very informative thank you so much I do I have one question though. My husband is active duty with everything going on right now will he still leave the day of his graduation from ACT to his FDS ? Or does it depend ?
Hey!! Thank you for watching the video. To answer your question, yes he will most likely be able to PCS to his first duty station once he graduates from AIT, and transportation is arranged for him. There was a time where soldiers were being held but the army has worked those issues out. The best advice would be for you to tell your husband to ask his chain of command for more concrete timelines.

I had to finesse the car though, he might get in trouble buying one at his AIT.
