The simplest way to describe Tarkovski is the opposite of Hollywood and the modern world. All you have to do is slow down to appreciate Tarkovski. He's a shamanic filmmaker, a Buddhist filmmaker, a poetic filmmaker he achieved something beyond anything before or after. No other filmmaker or director has done anything as powerful or beautiful. He's a truly unique genius who hasn't been fully understood or appreciated by the people who judge cinema and filmmaking yet. But he will be

he's none of those things, because he's orthodox christian and its necessary to understand his work.

@@adamsmith2944 Well, I think he transcends all religious dogmas. He had some very "unorthodox" views and interests and one can't ignore that. The prayer in Stalker, for example, is cited directly from the Tao Te Ching. He was also interested in Parapsychology and Rudolf Steiner.

Oh gosh. The book is TRANSLATED with the title "Sculpting in Time" which has always irked me, since it's title is "Запечатлённое время" which means "Imprinted Time". Completely different meaning. To my knowledge AT never used the phrases "mosaic made up of time" or "sculpting in time" - they're embellishments by others. Nevertheless, since physics tells us space and time are woven together anyway, I don't get your point.

don't worry about it. in czech the title of this book is translated as "sealed time" which is even more misleading

@@billyparham630 Same in French, "le temps scellé". Thank you for your comment ke.ux, "Imprinted Time" sounds more like Tarkovski.

Tarkovsky would have loved Cemetery of Splendour.

I adore Solaris, I am sure it was weak as an adaptation of the novel, but taken just as a film, it beautifully subverts sci fi.

with regatds to "time manipulation", which i would simply call surrealism, its certainly nolan that draws largely from it.

I hate it when the interviewer is only “waiting” for his turn to speak and ask a question. Feels so rushed and mechanical.

You should first learn and use the proper terms. It is not metaphysical but mysterial. Metaphysical are Heideger, Hegel and all the lunatics back to Aristoteles and far back which thought that to think equals to be. Tarkovsky is a mysterial artist who glorified the mystery and dignity of individual person. He is so opposite to metaphisical degradation and neglection and annihilation of the individual by the western phylosophers.
