The bpm was slowed right down from 56 bpm many years ago in competitive Latin dancing, as the Samba 'Bounce' was being lost. What I see now is no 'bounce' at all but very fast hips swivels and many steps flat footed eg 0.50 - 0.58. Can't say I like the new style samba in this way, despite how 'wow' it appears at face value.
