    My favorite part of Divine Right is the sidekick with the glasses, who looks exactly like Jim Lee, but taller and ripped.

    Whack was like an inside joke brand for the WS universe. Kinda like Big Kahuna is in the Tarantino universe.

    I think 'cause the reaction to this book wasn't there Jim Lee thought his style was gonna be outdated or something. 'cause Jeph Loeb had to talk him into doing Hush in his classic style. He wanted to do it in his 'European style' he did in the vertigo book flinch.

      @v-trigger6137 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      his art style in Flinch or the "European style" as he calls, actually felt a lot similar to late era Frank Quietly. I'm surprised he didn't do that style more. it's fascinating when artists go beyond their signature style to experiment on stuff

    Scott Lobdell joins as scripter with issue 7 (also the first issue published by DC after buying WS). Carlos D'Anda splits 11 with Jim, and pencils 12 from Jim's layouts. Divine Intervention: Wildcats and Gen13 take place between 11 and 12.

    Jim cribbed from Ninja High School with his design for Psylocke, she is so based on Asrial.

    Divine Right remains one of my favorite comics, not because of the final execution of it, but because of the concept. It sparks my imagination even today.

    This should have been billed as “Jim Lee’s ‘Watchmen’”.

    A blast from my comic collecting past! Would love to hear you talk about Jim Lee's attempt at Frank Miller's SIN CITY art style in DEATHBLOW! (Perhaps you already have?)

      They talk about Deathblow in some of the old Wizard episodes.

      I don't blame Mr Lee. He was still very young. And one good thing about any artist to always sreive to better themselves.
      The only problem is that he was a professional artist experimenting as he was working on other comics. It's like kid celebrities growing up on TV. It is always going to be cringy looking back... hahaha...
      But Mr Lee is still fine tuning his craft.

    NINJA HIGH SCHOOL! I was an anime nerd back in the late 80s and early 90s... NHS was one of the first B&W indy comics I ever discovered on the racks. Would love to see you guys take a look at that series as well.

      I would love for them to take a look NHS as well... especially the current issues 180-182. Since I drew those issues! :)

    Cheers to all the focus on the St. Louis Jim’s. It’s great fun.

    Took the full ride with Divine Right... I was looking for the Jim Lee full storytelling aspect... You gotta see it for yourselves. Seems like more of a stew of things that influenced him and less a single narrative.

    I know it was the 90s, but In what multiverse would you call it "Phizza"? Fizzah? Feetza? Come on now, JLee.

    The first couple of issues are fairly boilerplate Wildstorm stuff, but it got more interesting as it went along.

    I’d be interested in a compilation of onomatopoeia through the years both good and bad (“FBAM FBAM”?)

    No respect for the comic writer who can't draw for shit😅. Which is me, I've gotten used to the idea of collabs

    I remember this book having an erratic release schedule. It them made me very aware of Jim Lee only doing about 12 issues of a series there on in.

    Holeeeee shit, this was like a dam of forgotten memories breaking! Being a few years younger than Ed and Jim, this era of Image was formative for me, where the house was on fire and creators were just throwing shit at a wall to see if anything stuck like the original 7. All within the same year as Finch's Ascension, Capullo's The Creech, the Cliffhanger launch, Top Cow blowing up with Witchblade and Darkness, Liefeld launching Maximum. Amazing time for style over substance! 🤣🤣🤣

    I loved this series when it was coming out but the ending always felt super rushed. It felt like the book was getting canceled and he wanted to finish the store before it ended.

    That hippo ad is a direct ripoff of an Aussie indie comic called Hairbutt the Hippo.

    Haha Vanna White with a Jamiroquai hat on for fun and prophet. But seriously I forgot about this comic. I could see y’all covering Silvestri and Garth Ennis’s Darkness #1 soon

  • @chrismacdonald2580

    Much like Planetary, Danger Girl, and Battle Chasers, there was an 8-page preview issue, as Wildstorm was want to make, that was pre-packaged with some other WS books. For some reason the late 90's Wildstorm liked their issue #1's to be mid story...

    • @brianng8350
      @brianng8350 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      But I think this is a like an event book, like Crisis or Secret Wars or something. That is why it is mid-story while still being the first issue. I looked at the art, but never bothered to read the book.

    • @v-trigger6137
      @v-trigger6137 ปีที่แล้ว

      basically every WS book was like a event story that would ties to every other WS book of that time. hence why, it's so hard to find a coherent chronological order to older WS books. the timeline is just so disjointed and everything ties to a event story. the main problem is, if you are trying to read a one particular series (let's say Wildcats) and that book comes into a event story, then you'll have to read like 7 other books like Stormwatch, Gen13, Deathblow, Wetworks, youngbloods etc to understand the main plot. it's really irrating

    Bought, low expectations and... it sucks, for me. So generic and uninteresting. I like Jim Lee but not on those books. I liked the cover BUT not the girl drawing, with strange shoulders and short arms 🤔
