The thing is it's literally completely normal in pakistan, like when you meet your grandparents after a long time they pat your head in a wholesome way it basically means "god bless you". But only your grandparents and older family members not just random people, that would be creepy.

I am also from a very cultural moderate muslim family of Bangladesh. I started my hijab when I was 14 years old. My mum started to wear hijab after seeing me. And it was a huge culture shock for my relatives and families. Everybody started saying me that I don't have to wear that., who told me to wear these and etc etc. Honestly, if you are from a cultural desi family, you shouldn't expect any appreciation from your relatives:)

My parents, relatives, neighbours everyone was giving weird reactions, some were telling common words "who r ur friends", "society is not good","let's see how many days u can keep it". But Alhamdulillah, now my parents r quite convinced in different obligatory and sunnah activities and also my relatives and neighbours can't indirectly taunt me because of parental shield,Alhamdulillah Alhamdulillah.

I have learned so much from your videos because I am a white Canadian who is a non practicing Christian who celebrates Christmas and Easter (as in eating the food). I find it so cool to learn so much about Islam that I would have not been able to find on my own. Thank you for opening my eyes to what Islam truly is. I have absolute respect for anyone who is proud practicing their religion especially with visual articles (wearing a cross, wearing a head covering or anything).

Always nice to see interfaith harmony! Not sure if you know but we Muslims also believe in Jesus (peace be upon him). The only difference is that we believe he is the Messiah and a mighty Messenger of God but not God Himself. So we're actually quite similar to Unitarian Christians (such as the famous scientist Sir Isaac Newton) in that regard

Nice! Christianity and Islam have a lot in common. Honestly, it seems most men are so entitled and think they can do whatever they want in every regard, so unfortunately I am not surprised that they got offended when you did not give your consent for them to do something you didn’t want them to do. If the situation was reversed they would most likely be extremely loud in their objection to someone else making contact with their body in a way they didn’t want, but they choose not to care when they are attempting to do something that you’ve already checked them on. Sorry you ( and most of us as women ) have experienced this lack of respect 😓🖤🖤🖤

Wearing the niqab in front of strangers is easier than my relatives. They look at me like I'm an alien
Sister sidra can you tell us how to react and still feel good about wearing the Niqab when we come across these situations. They say I'm a teenager and theres alot of time to do my good deeds but the thing is that people do not know when they are gonna die.. SubhanAllah... it would be really helpful if you could share your experiences on how your non mahram uncles saw you as and how they see you now... I understand we should do everything for the sake of Allah they sometimes might think we are doing for showing off Astaghfirullah but seeing them say like this I do feel like I'm showing off but that's not my intention how do i feel that I'm doing it only for the Sake of Allah Azzawajal

Laugh it off even or just don’t respond but be polite and respectful at all times.
Do not let their words or states get to you personally.
They might tease you and say a lot of stuff.

Hi! I'm a European white girl who just stumbled upon your videos and I'm finding them very interesting and informative. To be honest I don't personally know any muslims but since their number is increasing in my city I realized I need to educate myself on the culture.
So here's a question just out of curiosity, I hope it isn't offensive:
Here in Finland I feel like shaking hands when you meet someone for the first time is simply a sign of regarding the other person as a human being. It's like finding a common ground and a gesture of showing interest in the other person with no prejudice. If someone refused to shake my hands I would definitely be just weirded out and think they don't respect me. I would like to hear in general how do you feel about situations where local customs contradict with your religious customs? Especially if the situation is about business or something very formal where the presumption is that you shake hands with everyone.
I think it's sad how many people (mostly older men) here are very prejudiced towards muslims mostly because they think muslims consider themselves above everyone by not taking part in local customs. I don't know where to even begin if an awkward situation regarding this topic comes up. Religion is not a big part of our culture so for a lot of people it's difficult to grasp what religion means to others... Sorry this was rambly, I just think this discussion needs to take place in western countries to break down the prejudice.

In Iraq not all women’s wore the niqab although we don’t called it niqab we call it boosheia. Only religious, attractive, and women who wears make up used to wear makeup. But they used to wear Abya. And not everyone in Iraq wore hajab. I came from an open family that don’t even believe in hajab or Islam. But I wear my hajab at the age of 9 but in my 20’s I went down hills anyways I studied Islam at the age of 24 falling in love with it and changed my life and did not only wear the hajab the Islamic way but I wear also Jabab.

In western countries it's the outsider s who mind and who cares about them right ?but in PAKISTAN its ur own family!

The thing about Pakistan is that people nowadays tend to follow culture more than religion so a shalwar kameez with a dupatta is ok but a niqab seems way too extreme for families who dont wear the proper hijab unlike many families where women wear the proper hijab.

I would say the touching thing in Pakistan is similar to the kiss greeting in France. Yes, you can refuse, but you do look quite rude doing so bc that's how their culture properly greets (some) people (or did precovid). I would say it's somewhat similar to the handshake in the U.S. but if u refuse many ppl don't truly mind if you just say why imo.

  • @waituntil

I feel you a lot on that.. I really, really, really, really, really do whish that people accross the globe would finally understand that there are indeed tons of people that connect religion and their culture but that culture and religion are different!
Where I am from Islam gets stronger and hijab is pretty normal (I maybe saw like 10 women in burka so far) and I do know that they face problems here but I also know that my *Culture* isn't about touching people and very much respects physical boundaries.
I know that if you pick the right place to live here that you will have basically no problems with hijab, very small problems with niquab and moderate problems with burka (considering that you truly wear all black because that is the cliché - so it will make people look at you in weird ways and honestly I don't know what they(women wearing burka) experience here.))
But a colorful niquab like her's for example would be excepted by like 87% of people and 10% would have a problem but not make any, and then 3% would give her discomfort and maybe say something and look without shame but it would still be bearable in my experience.
The chance you get actually hands on problems here wearing niquab or burka are pretty rare. Then when you go into another more Islamic country you are suddenly confronted with people wanting to kiss and touch you for a "hello" and they are much more easily disrespected than my people.
It just goes to show how respect doesn't go hand in hand with a culture primarily influenced with one religion or the other. Depending on region there are simply different rules to communication and interaction and religions bring their own rules.
I live in a country with mostly christians, atheists or agnostics and Islam is rising and the reason for that is that my country's *Culture* is offering a pretty good living space for people that choose to follow their own religion (not just Islam) in a more drastic way. That is all about culture and not religion.

I want to start wearing a niqab I'm still a teen and my family members too just wear hijab and many don't sooo idk I'm kinda contemplating about it. But whenever I see any lady wear the niqab I always say in my heart that when will it be my turn. You can say that in my whole family I'm the only one whose more strict with Islam and Deen like I don't think I'm doing enough and I want to do more and I feel like once I will start wearing the niqab I will become much closer to islam. But the thing is we also have events like eid and some parties so idk about those events like i will be getting looks from people especially my own cousins as they are non hijabis and ik that we shouldn't care abt what people say or think but it takes alot of time to get used to it.
