- Welcome to Kimono Mom's Kitchen! This is a Cooking Show by MOE and SUTAN, a Japanese mom and her daughter. Today, we made Melonpan for Moto as Father's Day present. Meronpan is a type of sweet bread. It looks like a cantaloupe. This is actually Mom's first time making bread. Who knows if I can do it well! LOL!

I've used a bread maker in the past. But, I prefer using an oven. There are easy bread recipes using your Dutch oven pan. Good luck. You've got this!! 💖🍞
One time I helped my grandmother bake bread in the village. To be honest, store-bought pastries are much tastier. Perhaps you and Sutan will be able to bake more delicious😁
You can make very good bread without machine
There is a lot of receipe to make your bread without machine without a lot of work, Just few minutes to prepare it. I like to make this quick bread préparation and the bread is so delicious. But Perhapps bread in France is not the same than in japan...

Do you want kneading, mixing machine?
I perfer Kenwood for kneading , mixing, and whisking. I use kenwood titanium kmc030 for baking in my home.
If you want to knead large dough (>2000gm), I perfer bosch or ankarsrum for kneading, I want it too😄😆.
This was so sweet💕 You can tell that Sutan still doesn’t care for wearing the Kimono but she was so happy to surprise Papa with it. She looked so adorable 🥰 The bread is very interesting. I’m sure it was delicious 😊

I couldn't stop laughing. Around 4:12 when you were kneading the dough and picking it up and throwing it down on counter, said to myself, Moe's lucky the dough doesn't fly out of her hand...then seconds later I saw it flying across the room. 😅. You don't know your own power. 🤗💖

Moe you are such a great mom! You really enjoy your daughter and your love for her shines through! I wonder if she feels a little claustrophobic after she wears the kimono for a little while. Because she is now truly happy to put it on but then it seems like a sensory thing for her where she truly needs to get it off. My daughter was like this when she was little. You are so attuned to Sutan- she is blessed to have you as her mom. Looks like it was a very special Father's day for Sutan's dad!

I've made melon pan a couple of times now, the first 2 times drove me crazy but now I have grown more patient with it. I even gave my own spin on it, mixing the cookie dough with Dutch 'speculaaskruiden' - a powdered mix of cinnamon, clove, nutmeg, coriander seed, anise, ginger and cardemom. It goes extremely well with the cookie dough and I highly recommend it. Japanese-Dutch fusion cuisine! 😉
That was really lovely and I love seeing Sutan so excited when daddy is coming home. Little sweetheart that she is. Oh and great job with the Melon Pan too 😋
so sweet. did you know that Japan's love for bread and pastries comes from interaction with Portugal and Spain, who brought bread, pastries, and fried food to Japan. Tempura is an example.

You picked a complicated recipe for the first time to make bread! Well done Moe and Sutan! Sultan certainly has matured a lot and is a very good helper to you. It is nice to see Sutan accepting to wear the kimono more often, so adorable 🥰 When I bake bread I often put the dough in the kitchen aid mixer with a bowl and dough hook, much easier. You did a wonderful job! I am sure Moto had a wonderful Father's Day. Thank you for sharing your bread making experience ❤️

I grew up watching anime - which is what got me interested in Japan, and melon pan is shown a lot! I’ve always wanted to try it, but I had no idea there was cookie dough on top!! This blew my mind Moe😂Thank you so much for sharing your recipe, I can’t wait to finally try melon pan!🍞🍈
Yes! I’m Japanese but moved to America when I was 5 with my family and my mom used to make mock melon pan. We would get frozen dinner rolls (dough form) thaw it out as directed and when use premade sugar cookie dough and roll it out and put on top of the dinner rolls. Sooo much and very close to Japanese melon pan!

It's amazing how the small things like cooking can show how much a family loves each other and support each other as well. Moe and sutan are supported by a great husband and father as moto. And he is loved by both sutan and moe back. You got a strong family the 3 of you do and it's only getting stronger with each passing day and it's showing with each video.

I do notice that Moe can be stern when she needs to be, which is good, as Sutan can be quite challenging most times. Tiring for Moe but admire her patience - such are the demands of motherhood, the ''heart'' of the family. Cheers!

Food processor hands down. I have a food processor from when I was a teenage baking great bread for my parents. It still works (it's not Kenwood). Add water sparingly though then allow knead for 8 minutes. Remove and knead a few minutes more to get gluten to form. I don't use eggs but vegan fats or oils. Improves the rise, I noticed.
