I just got one of these. For the battery, just get a hearing aid battery, size 675, the kind with the blue pull tab. They work great. The voltage is very close, no need to adjust the ISO settings. I've shot a few rolls of film so far, and they've all come out very nice.

Do you need to drill a hole in the battery cover to get air in for the battery?

I don’t think so: the light meter doesn’t use much power.
In fact, I’ve heard of others using foil to cover up some of the holes on the battery to get it to last longer

@@456ertdfgbgh OK, I heard that you needed to because it works by oxidizing zinc with atmospheric oxygen. It is good to hear there is no need tobrovso.

Just bought one and have a roll to be developed so looking forward to see how the shots turned out. But so far I'm enjoying the feel of it.

Jon Maslen it’s a good little camera and the lens is really nice. You will love the results

I'm in the middle of overhauling one of these. There's grit and gunk in the lens, but fortunately no fungus or scratches on the glass. With preliminary flood cleaning prior to disassembly, I have even the self timer working reliably. I hear nothing but praise, generally, for this model, though your concerns are completely valid. I'll use slow ISO 50 - 64 in day shooting and 400-800 indoors. As for the meter, I'm getting the MR-9 adapter - no other way to go! As for the fixed lens, there are times during regular shooting with my SLR when this little camera will be just the thing. I usually carry an 85 and a 20 with my SLRs, so this will round things out nicely. Cheers!

    Image quality is great!
And this little camera offers leaf shutter for 1.7 Aperture lens. With a fully manual mode combined It is awesome for flash photography.
    I am buyin it:)

Problems are overstated. First buy the zinc air batteries, they are 1.4V and they are barely a off from the original (a half stop if that when compared to my digital camera at same focal and other settings). The 1.5V batteries are likely further off but simply compare to a phone app, another camera etc. You can also buy an external meter that mounts to the hot shoe. I don’t have one but am strongly considering as it gives you convenient metering settings for any vintage camera where batteries are an issue or where metering only works in shutter/aperture priority). Size is great for a daily carry or a discrete carry. Focus throw is great for street photography.

Have you tried the WeinCell MRB62 battery? Should meter right at 1.35v

Check your meter with a hand held meter and adjust the ISO accordingly to get better meter readings if it isn't reading properly or meter with a good digital camera and just shoot it manual.

Love the QL17 - not perfect but... Re batteries, you can get a converter that the 1.5v button cell sits in that is the same shape as the old mercury cell but contains some electronics that steps down the voltage to the 1.35 or whatever volts it was. If you like to change lenses the Leica/Minolta CLE is an option - M mount with bright line frames for 28/40/90 - I have heard very good things about the 40mm Rokkor. Re the Canon lens shutter speed - that's a function of it being a leaf shutter - what you lose in top speed you gain in flash synch at all speeds. Re RF lens size - you can make 40s &50s quite small on any camera. they stay small on RFs as you can design lenses that can stick back into the body. Wide lenses naturally do this - the 28mm for example is something to do with the distance of some part of the lens from the film plane. I forget exactly what. SLRs cannot do this as the lens cannot stick back into the mirror box. So you need a rather more complex and bulky design to achieve the same thing. That's why wide angle lenses on SLRs can be so big. I guess the other factor is that RFs need small lenses so as not to obscure the VF!

I loved the shots! I love mine. I recently sent mine out to be CLA'D and had the camera converted to take 1.5v battery, had the shutter serviced, had the range finder adjusted, and had a few other things done as well. I have the black version so it's older but it's a beautiful little camera.

Kevin, I love the black one. I currently have the silver one sent ou to the CLA to get it to mint condition and convert to the 1.5V. If you ever wanna trade cameras lmk lol. ;)

where did you take your camera to get the battery converted?

  • @pkeiths1594
    @pkeiths1594 4 ปีที่แล้ว

People with those camera say it’s best just to get a silver oxide battery and just increase your film ISO setting by 1 stop and light meter should be okay. Try this with my QL19 and worked a treat

pkeiths good to know, thanks for the heads up. I never tried with the silver oxide battery

How many times does he tell us that he doesn't like the camera because it has a fixed lens? Didn't he figure that out before he dropped 300 bucks? If like him you prefer a 28mm lens, Canon sold the same body with a fixed 28mm lens. The weak link for the camera today is battery. Solutions are use a Wein air-cell battery - direct replacement; use a silver oxide cell in an adapter; or have the camera circuit modified to use a common 1.5 volt battery. The lens has probably the highest resolution and contrast of any lens on a compact camera, ever; The lens on the Oly RD is similar.
