    Middle Aged Clown Epidemic would make cracking album title for some band!

    Death and Chuck are the 🐐. Spiritual healing is super underrated imo, it’s where the progressive stuff started and he then perfected on the next albums. The riffs in this are just wild

    so i saw ur top 10 metal albums and went back to ur first video, really enjoyed the podcast! u know what, im 41, used to listen to a lot of metal/grunge through the 90s, kind of fell off around 2000ish, just kept up with a few bands like opeth. but i still love the genre and it was cool hearing your take on stuff. ive seen bands like corrosion of conformity, actually i saw them support metallica on the wiseblood/load tour here in the uk, 1997 i think earls court. love that band, crowbar were great too.

    Man, I love that you said Behemoth is gentrifying black metal. That's hilarious.

    Awesome Nate! Just heard about this today, really excited to tune in. My son and I live in New Braunfels and came to the Mohawk show last year. Also became massive Duel fan that night. Their last record is an absolute masterpiece! Love the new singles and cant wait for the august release. Im an old guitar player, performer, hard rock and metal head who has lived thru some really cool era's of music. Seen fads come and go. The birth of new genre's. I really cant remember a time that i was more excited about the future of metal, from death to trad, so many young bands who have roots in the past but for the first time in a long time seem to be moving the dial. And i started listening to metal in 1982. Keep it up their are a whole legion of us old dudes who love what you do.

    I love that death record, my favorite as well.
    It was a transitional record. Great lead work by James Murphy. Love your work, man. I hope the channel is successful.

      Thank you! Yea James Murphy is a monster. Finding out he digs Spirit Adrift was one of my proudest full-circle moments.

      @Nate Garrett hearing you guys for the first time was a breath of fresh air. I'm 40, so I grew up on the same stuff you did. I'm looking forward to hearing the new album.

    I'm also up there in the old dude group, but my band is very new. I think the Adam dilemma is certainly more about being established than being old, because the only bands that I can currently tour with are the kids so I stay in touch out of necessity.
    Spiritual Healing is such a cool listen, very pivotal point in the bands progression. Also Murphy was on fire in 1990. Great podcast Nate, looking forward to catching up on the rest 🤘🏻

    About how to discover new bands. Nothing has ever really replaced the pre-internet days on where people discovered new bands. And there is such a deluge of music that can be accessed now, its hard to break through and find that good/new band. Not sure what the answer is, but obviously the music industry has yet to figure it out.

    • @BornTooNate
      @BornTooNate  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Totally right. Might not ever figure it out.

      Honestly, it's not hard to find new bands. Whatever your favorite bands are, checking out other bands on their label is the easiest thing you can do. See what other bands are on those labels. See what other bands those members have played in. Look into all the bands that open/play with the bands you know. Check out their labels and their previous bands. Get into your local scene. Follow the local hot spots and venues, check their fliers. If there are popular spots for metal/punk/hardcore, then there's pretty high chances you'll find other stuff you like. If someone actually wants to find new bands, you kinda have to put in some work. New, great bands aren't just going to appear out of thin air for you.
      That being said, IDK how busy fools like Avatar are, I don't listen to em but they seem successful enough on a major label. So maybe it's one of those things where when you're entrenched in an industry, the last thing you want to do is spend your time outside of the industry/full-time job is doing stuff related to your full-time job. For example, I'm a graphic designer and while I try to stay up on trends, design takes up most of my headspace that I typically don't do much thinking about design or spending all my free time looking up new artists or whatever. But that doesn't mean that there isn't great shit happening, I'm just not actively looking like I used to. I'd never say "oh there's no good new artist or artists out there, art today sucks" because I'm took lazy to look into my own scene

      @@shaka_lutherking7152 you’re exactly right. But I think people such as yourself who actively seek out new music via the methods you mentioned, have become the minority. Maybe we always were.

    • @BornTooNate
      @BornTooNate  ปีที่แล้ว

      @@shaka_lutherking7152 and yes… there’s a difference between saying “I don’t know of any good new bands, because I don’t look for new bands”…. And saying “there are no good new bands.”

  • @docvader82
    @docvader82 ปีที่แล้ว

    That is a totally lazy take. If you search around the streamers, Bandcamp, and/or talk to people in the metal groups in Facebook, Twitter, IG, YT, etc., you'll find the good stuff.
    There's no good media, mainstream press for quality music such as yours.
    No radio or TV presence.
    It's on us fans to help spread the word. If we like it, we've gotta spread the word.
    When I hear and/or buy good shit, I tell my metal head pals all about it. We've turned each other onto so much music.
