This video walks through the process of installing a replacement 3 prong plug. I also try to emphasize the importance of ensuring that a grounding pin is intact in and functioning properly on a standard 15 amp 3 prong plug. This video tutorial on repairing a broken electrical plug covers the following. How to repair an electrical plug when the ground pin breaks off. This video describes why a 3-prong plug is important and why a device should not be used if the ground pin is broken. An extension cord, appliance, or power tool with a broken plug should not be used until it has been repaired. How to fix a broken plug on an extension cord is also covered in this video. How to repair a broken extension cord. How to connect wires to a new plug when the ground pin pulls off and is left in the duplex electrical outlet.

I accidently stepped on my plug for my vacuum cleaner and bent the grounding pin. When I tried to bend it back, it broke off. The first thing I thought was can I glue it back on. I went online to find a solution and then came across your video. After watching your video I know what I had to do. I ordered the Leviton grounding plug on Amazon. I just got it today and I installed it in ten minutes. Everything works great, and I learned something I never did before. Thanks for the great video.

This was not elementary for me. I found an audio power conditioner for ten bucks, and was suspicious of the missing pin. I learned an immense amount of info here. Thanks !! I just replaced the plug, paying attention to everything you did. The only other thing I ever did was to replace the bridge pickup in one of my guitars, so this was a tremendous help to me. Subscribed.

My wife's ground plug fell out of her several years old laptop power cable, and I was considering ordering a new, hard to find, proprietary, expensive, power cable+adapter unit.
Saw your video, and after a few dollars for a replacement plug, we're back in business.
    Many thanks!

Thanks so much Mark! I am a widow and am determined to handle these little projects myself. I have always been a bit leery of dealing with electrical - just because I don't really understand how it works; but you did a wonderful job of explaining how it all fits and why you need to take certain precautions. I really appreciate this. I had asked my brother in law about the grounding prong......and if it was necessary. He told me definitely it was, so now I am happy to see your video of how to replace it myself!!! Much gratitude!!!

I was gifted a fridge from one of my customers when I had mentioned I moved to a new place and I noticed the ground part of the plug was taken off (I guess to make it fit on a two outlet) and was worried about using the fridge, but THIS, this is EXACTLY what I needed, and I'm going to Home Depot in a bit to get one. This video was super helpful. I used an extension cord to wire an outdoor dusk to dawn sensor flood light and as soon as I was testing it, the ground got stuck in the outlet. I got it for free cause the ground pin is broken off the plug. can I use the plug you had in the video, even though it's for 120? Would using a higher rated plug effect the emi filtering or surge protection? I would like to use it to power my synthesizers so I thought having something like this would cure any brownouts I get sometimes and eliminate any ground noises

1:45 By “touching it” do you mean touching the outlet or even the appliance itself like a microwave?
What if I use a microwave that had the grounding prong broken off, but the microwave has reached zero on the timer meaning it’s not heating anything up anymore. Would I be safe to touch it?
Also would wearing rubber gloves prevent shock?

I bought a used fan and didn’t check it until I got home. Mistake...lol. It worked on low and medium speeds, but not on high. While I was cleaning it up I noticed that it had a missing prong. That’s not good. If the prong is replaced, will the fan still not work on high? Is it likely the only culprit of it not working on high. I still thing the fan would be a great deal for a $3 plug replacement.
