I love the winter recipes! This is my favourite time of year. Salads are fine but there is nothing like a bowl of stew and dumplings! I’m definitely going to bake the fudge pudding!

I love these old timey recipes! I have many recipe books that I got from my grandma after she passed all from her church and local school from long ago. Love seeing her recipes in there ❤
I made the stew yesterday and omg it was SO GOOD! I followed your suggestion and seasoned the flour for the beef as well as added cheese and fresh sage to the dumplings. The dumplings and turnips were the star of the show for me! And the house smelled divine for an hour before it was ready so I was very hungry by the time it was done haha

Old church cookbooks are terrific. I would love to see you do more of these types of recipes, when it works out for you. How interesting that your husband's great aunt was a food historian. What a lovely family connection and source of inspiration, for sure. Totally okay if you skip past the sheep's brains and eyeballs recipes though, lol. Thank you for sharing these dishes. 😊

We made the Chocolate Fudge Pudding today! It was delicious warm and then several hours later it was still good at room temp! We'll see how it does tomorrow! Thank you so much! BTW, my wife's family is Stewart and came across the pond in 1800s! (We're in South Carolina!)

The pie looks wonderful. I think I'll add a handful of unthawed potato shreds to the mixture. My sons are coming home next week, and I will make this and the stew (which also looks amazing but I'll use lamb cause that's what we raise). So far, all your recipes get a big thumbs up with my family.
I am taking classes to learn Scottish Gaelic---love it. Loved seeing the mommy moment with your daughter. And the music in the background stirs my soul. I am a Stewart of Galloway and my husband is a Frazer of Lovet -he even resembles the 15th Lord Lovet--seriously. Have a wonderful weekend. Tapadh Leat a charaid.

We call that pudding "Self saucing chocolate pudding" here in NZ, it's very popular, I made it in the microwave the other day and it worked.

I like your cake pudding better than others I've seen. There is a lot more sauce. The others don't cook the sauce first. Just sprinkle the cocoa on the batter and pour hot water over it. The dumplings are the way my great grandmother and grand mother made chicken and dumplings. Great was Dutch and English, married to a pure Irishman whose family came over before he was born.. Grand to the Scot. Your bacon is really different than mine. A lot wider and more meat than fat. I wonder if they are the same cuts. Is the bacon smoked before its sold in stores? I also like the pie, without mushrooms.

Hi Carole, its lovely to hear of your family connections and ways of cooking, thanks for sharing. The bacon can be bought smoked or unsmoked. I love Irish food and must share more of it too. Take Care, Angie x
