    I know this is old, but just found it. What a terrific watch! I have the X-Pro2 and both of these lenses (Nikkor 135mm) but have not used them on the Fuji.
    The 135mm giving a 200mm equivalent view has great comprehension. I've been using wide to normal lenses for so long that I forgot how arresting that crunched up look can be.
    Will be dusting off that 135mm lens thanks to this video.

    Great duel !
    I found the first two images humorous. The 24 wide-angle was used for a head & shoulder portrait of the model on the bench and the 135 telephoto was used for a full-length portrait of the model on the bench.

    For street work I generally prefer wider but on this occasion the 135 absolutely stole the show great framing and some gorgeous portraits of a stunning model. I just bought a used XP2 with the 23mm lens I have a nice wee collection of takumar lenses including a 135mm Deffo getting an adapter. Cracking vid team really enjoyed that thanx 📷❤️

    Great shootout - Good to see you guys stepping out of your comfort zones! With that, I have to vote #7 for the light and (sorry Andrew) the bokeh. A close second is #16 for the composition and some well played emotion on the part of the model.

    And it's the 135mm by a landslide 3,7,12,14 all bangers. The 24mm had one good one #15 had some mystery and intrigue going on there. It seems the dude on the 135mm just has better timing with the models expressions. BTW I own an xpro 2 and I also shoot it with vintage lenses. Can't express enough how much I love the hybrid view finder and focus assist with rangefinder style on a vintage lens.

  • @Narsuitus
    @Narsuitus 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 24mm f/2 Nikkor was the first lens I tried on my Fuji X-Pro1. I had planned on using it as my main lens but had to change plans when I learned that I could not accurately and consistently manual focus on the X-Pro1. Therefore, I purchased a 23mm f/1.4 Fuji to use as my main lens. I now have no reason to use the adapted 24mm Nikkor on my Fuji X-Pro1 or X-Pro2 bodies.

  • @5oulPower

    Must I choose only one? I like 6, 12, 13 and 16. Andrew's shots on 12 and 13 look clean and I'm always attracted to geometry, but Christopher's shots on 6 and 16 has that intimacy. Shows off the strengths of both focal ranges.

  • @chrisdechristophe
    @chrisdechristophe 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    The 135mm shots were on another level. I actually had this nikkor 24mm and used it on my xpro. It’s nice to use, but I was very unimpressed with the results, lots of CA, also lacks focus in corners. Clearly horrible in portrait shots. However this 135 seems nice. I think the guy with the 135 did a better job with it. The guy with the 24 tried to fill the frame with the girl too much, it just didn’t work. Plus his focus was off a lot.
    Vintage glass with an xpro is a must. Especially the xpro1 as it has a more analogue film live contrast curve than the xpro2.
    Nice video, shows how difficult it is to get good images with a beautiful woman who isn’t a model by trade. Keep it up. Next time try an xpro1.

    I loved a lot of your shots and I had some issued to find a winner. 2 totally different lens.
    Really like the #1 #3 #4 #11 but the
    #12 for me is just a perfect photo. And you can't beat a perfect photo. I'm sorry for who made that photo cause he now has to keep the lvl up to that but the lines, the way she poses, the originality, it's just too good.
    I was blown away by the ability to capture the right moment by Christopher. The first shot for me has the imperfections of perfectness. It's just a casual photo and you gave the model that smile on the face. Very very good picture.

    I like the 135mm images the best. This is a great lens and has been my go to lens for portraits with my film cameras. Now that I recently acquired a Fujifilm X-T2, it should be a nice 200mm equivalent.

  • @Man0fMetal

    Those old nikkor lenses are golden. I have a 50mm f1.4 AIS and a 135mm f2.8 AIS, super easy to focus with and super sharp. and I tried everthing from Leica to Schneider Kreuznach lenses before I bought them.

  • @barrycohen311
    @barrycohen311 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Great choice of lenses. As a byproduct, you showcased why longer focal lengths are ofetn used for portraiture. For me, hands down, the 135mm was the winner. Nothing to do with photography skills, it just produces a more pleasing and interesting image for my tastes.

    • @AndrewGoodCamera
      @AndrewGoodCamera  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I much prefer environmental portraits and the angles you can get shooting really wide in street style portraiture. It's personal taste. I hear what you're saying, but the only thing I think when I look at shots taken with a narrow focal length when city streets were involved is "this could have been shot wide." :)

    • @barrycohen311
      @barrycohen311 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@AndrewGoodCamera For street it makes total sense. I've dabbled in street photography and I prefer to shoot wide, as in 23mm or so. I actually like some of the slight distortions in the people's faces, especially if I catch them in the corners. Seems to be the "classic street look."

      but really it was so cool to see Andrew out of his comfort zone AND totally killing it. The 24 is close to 35mm on the Fuji, so I kinda fooled myself into thinking it would be easier. Shoulda got closer or stepped way back in retrospect!

The stunning shots, wardrobe of your model and location all pair perfectly with this vibe. Love the vintage lens choices. Such a great idea!! I think I might legitimately try and grab both of those lenses at some point. I love the contrast in focal lengths. Btw, I'm going with #12 by ANDREW. Love the composition and just isolation. You used the lens to your favor by making the composition empty but with a few leading lines.

  • @AbdonPhirathon

    Andrew, all of your shots turned out better in my opinion, and when taking into account that it's not a focal length you normally use then I would say you're pretty amazing.

    Guys, I really enjoyed this video, great model and very beautiful and very hard to pick one winner but for me it was the first one with the 135mm lens on the park bench. I liked the very relaxed manner in which the shoot was carried out and made it so much easier for the model. Thanks for sharing.

  • @thecheesegod7

    Well, this was exceptionally hard to choose. I love the location where you guys got shots 4,5,6 with the framing of 4 being outstanding! Shots 10 and 12 were super great and shot 15 tells a wonderful story. Picking an absolute best was hard, but I have to give it to shot number 8. Using that wicked long lens to do the environmental shot was very cool and looked great!!

    Not fair...lol. That Pentax 135 smokes the Nikon wide angle for portraits. Not a surprise.

    13 was my favourite. I inherited my grandpas Pentax SP1000 a few years ago which included the 135 f/3.5. Fantastic lens.

      Does this make you want to adapt it onto Fuji? :)

      Denae & Andrew I have an M42 to FX speed booster for it but haven’t tried it out yet. I’ve shot with it on a regular adapter and it’s great. I also just picked up a Pentax KP 🤓

    This was a great watch, I had read about the 135 being a good lens but your images are really selling this lens, at least on fuji! Hard to pick between so many good ones shot with that 135!

    That was fun, working with vintage lenses is so awesome, how they're build, the smell of metal and oil, the soft focusring.. and for sure the awesome look! I recently got a 2xconverter with spacers for mine..ultra macro time, check it out, their is so much to discover. have a good one!
