a suggestion about classroom libraries. As a former elementary school librarian, us your school library to supplement your collection. Change out the books once a month. My teachers would select the books leave them stacked on the circulation desk with their name. We would check them out and deliver to the classroom. In addition, if there is a particular book you want frequently for a project or unit, photography the cover or title page, right the call number on the copy. File with your unit papers. As you are preparing to teach the unit, drop the copies off at the library. We would then collect the books, check them out and deliver to your classroom. I know not all states have good school libraries, but public libraries can be sources as well, procedures will then be different. Since I retired technology has change a lot, so just adapt for those changes.

This is absolutely genius! For some reason I've never really thought of using our school library for books for our classroom. Definitely second this, see what your school district or school allows. Thank you for sharing this!

This is probably one of the most useful teacher videos out there. I'm a 3rd year teacher this year, and you get right to the point. So many other videos focus on what you should buy, which gets annoying real fast. Your video focuses on how to actually set up your classroom. The stuff and classroom decorations aren't that important, what's important is being able to be an effective teacher.

Yes this! While decorations are great they aren't everything. Focusing on great systems is really going to help you out in the long run. That and you can focus on both

I will begin my 32nd year of teaching in August, and I want to thank you for all of the suggestions and advice that you have given. Your first point is extremely important because some people are very eager to buy materials and them realize that they cannot use them or they already have them in their classrooms. When I started teaching back in 1992, I had only $70 and I could not purchase anything.

Thank you so much! I'm so glad you agree with these points I mentioned. Yes, so often teachers feel pressured to have a perfectly setup classroom from day 1. But the truth is a lot of things you can purchase and add over time. We all started somewhere. Your story is so inspiring, thank you for sharing!!
