Just for sharing, I'm an old man, originally, Cendol is just pandan jelly, palm sugar and coconut milk and shave ice to be taken as extra with glutinous rice (pulut) Later ins 80s red beans were added for more flavour.
The Art of bargaining, for me is asking for half the original price that is being offered to you. Then slowly increase the price that you are comfortable with.
Stay healthy and enjoy your time in Malaysia

That's not bamboo, it's sugarcane. It's what sugar is of made everywhere around the world of before the Germans invented a process to extract sugar from beet roots. Bamboo is hollow and does not have a juice. That juice is just raw unprocessed sugar. And yes, raw unrefined, unprocessed sugar actually have additional flavors and additional nutrition like vitamins, antioxidants etc.

RM70 for that kind of bag is way expensive! There are a few malls selling similar product for cheaper price such as Kota Raya Complex (next to Petaling Street), Times Square, Plaza GM, Kenanga Wholesale City n etc. ✌🏼

Im so happy you discovered cendol!! Been bragging about it to my Philippine friends. Tasted it first in Chinatown before the pandemic . It was a small resto along Ancasa hotel in Kuala Lumpur. Loved it! Reminded me of halo halo too! Plus. I also had fun talking to and bargaining with Bangladeshi sellers in Chinatown. Shev and Dev, if you see the packaged dried fig, do buy it. Good for lowering cholesterol. Havent seen your other Malaysia videos but pls go to Penang as well. Loved the island but still modern vibe there. And Go to Maxims dimsum! It is the best. Penang has very good curry mee also. ❤I have to add, some take a van from Penang to Krabi, Thailand. Going back to MY, hope you could explore Melaka and Ipoh too. I love that Sg is also close to MY. 💗 Asia is awesome

That cendol seller is so generous with the toppings omg that's gotta be delicious. Mouthwatering indeed 🤤 Also that kind of backpack for rm150 is expensive for sure. Definitely a rip off. You get over a hundred for such a small bag only at some high end stores. For that bag at a shop like that usually you can get between rm30-60. You did a good job rejecting that offer. The rm70 for the backpack you actually bought was a much better offer considering the design, though yes I guess you could get as low as rm50 maybe. But for a tourist attraction market, rm70 is a good price 🥰
Stephen is right btw. Melaka is a good place to visit. My hometown! Jonker Street, River Cruise, A Famosa, Pantai Klebang... Melaka's signature dish would be Assam Pedas, and definitely must try the coconut shake here. Baba Nyonya food is also awesome. It's only about 2 hours trip from KL, and cost about rm10 if you take the bus.

Hi… big fan here from a very close neighbouring county… love all ur videos, especially the ones in KL… oh btw, typically where I’m from, I would usually start bargaining as low as half or even lesser than half of the asking price… then the seller will usually increase the price gradually… like fishing, u may wanna play along with the bargaining… but again, it depends on the timings too… newly opened shops are usually hard to bargain, but towards the evening, they would just give in to u… ps: that’s just a habit I’ve been doing almost everywhere in the world…
But again, do enjoy ur stay… Cheers!

  • @ladygypsysoul122
    @ladygypsysoul122 ปีที่แล้ว

Very good in the bargaining part. I am from Singapore. I think come to bargain...I learnt from my Malaysian son in law....when bargain try go down to slightly more then 50%. If they say Rm100, try go down to Rm60..and see how it goes. Sometimes they purposely increase it by 100%>....me personally hates bargaining. So I always buy the one with price tag. Sometimes with price tag, I still bargain. Or shopping mall where the price is there already.

The backpack you ended up buying goes for between RM25-RM39 online. Maybe slightly more in a shop. The price you paid was quite high, but to be honest, when you are a tourist shopping in a tourist trap area, expect to get fleeced 😂 sorry. I’m pretty sure the first hawker said “tebu” which is a Malay word for sugar cane.
Chendol isn’t necessarily from Penang or Melaka. It’s a regional food. You can find it all around Southeast Asia from Singapore to Indonesia to Brunei and Malaysia.
The chendol place you went to is very close to this one Malay restaurant called Palmierra. They serve Malay cuisine mainly from the state of Pahang. It’s on the expensive side but their foods are amazing. I can’t stress enough how amazing the foods are. Just the opposite of the chendol place.
You’re pretty good at bargaining but you need a little more ego to bring down the price. Hahaha. However, maybe because Petaling Street is a little too touristy, RM70 is pretty good. I’d honestly go for the knock off Coach for 100 (can bring the price down to 70). But the material is heavier.

Me myself don't buy bags at places like that. I mean reasonably they sold those at that price. Tourist spot, in the middle of KL. Of course that's the prices you'll see. Maybe that's why now Malaysians love online shopping more 🤣🤣

When I'm bargaining for things, the first thing I say in response to their first price is to nod appreciatively, and then say "that's a really good price, but I only want to buy one." And then offer half what they asked.

Local..example says bag for RM100, you cut in half to RM50 then next negotiate how low from RM50 they can get you to buy. For regular use, it could last 3 months lol

As a foreigner, you have negotiations well.
As the shop owner has to make a little bit of profit too, RM70 is not too expensive as you convert it to £ 😅😅😅

Oh...you can get sugar cane juice in wembley and south hall london. By the way, girl you look like a malaysian indian. If you want to purchase anything go to the mall. Petaling street is meant for tourist so they mark up the price

I think that man was saying That sugar cane is also called tebu, not bamboo. Tebu is sugarcane in Malay language.
And the cendol is actually pandan flavored jelly made from glutinous rice flour formed in tear shape.
One tip for bargaining, always start with half the price you are offered before you come to an agreeable price with the seller.

The thing about bartering is how much you think it’s worth to you. If your happy with how much you paid for it then be happy about what you paid. Even if it was a bit much you may have just helped someone feed his/her family. 😊

You need some bargaining skills if you buy something in Petaling Street. Like that jersey, I can mark down the price below rm50. I can even buy it for RM40 per piece. But that bag was a good price at RM70.
