What you dont realise is football is a very short term sport. You may have just one season in a career to win a ballon d'or or be recognise. (All that before Messi Ronaldo dominance)

These cases happen with players who come from "non-traditional" countries, take Keylor Navas he's always been unappreciated for not being European or South American and yet his level is probably the same if not better than Courtois or Donarumma

I was shocked when Mendy was not included in the ballon d'or list but was 100% sure he would win the Lev Yashin trophy. When Donnarumma was announced as the winner as I so angry I almost broke my phone 2am at night while the ballon d'or ceremony I stayed awake despite having an exam in the morning Donnarumma could not even help Italy qualify for the world cup directly and Mendy is playing every match like his in form and his form never ends

@@benjose924 yes, he won 1 ballon d'or 60 years ago. There are 11 players on the pitch 1 of which is a gk, so statistically 1 in 11 ballon d'ors should be won by goalkeepers right?
Well at the moment we have had 64 ballon d'ors and only 1 gk. So that seems odd right?
As for defenders, there are between 3 and 5 defenders on the pitch. So between a third and almost half of the squad are defenders. Yet only 3 have ever won the ballon d'or. 3 out of 64. Odd right?

I don't know how the criteria for these awards goes but I remember a few years ago, a ballon d'or was only given to European players until France football took charge and changed the rules but what we are witnessing in recent years is a disgrace to football and it's community at large, cancelling ballon d'or ceremony in 2020 and denying Lewandoski the trophy was a shame coz he showed the same level of consistency this year but still got robbed, same case as Mendy who had a brilliant debut EPL and champions league seasons respectively and gets pinned of the Yashin trophy by a goalkeeper who was outstanding during the Euros but can't even get a starting role in his new club PSG, can France football explain these failures because now I ought to believe if England had won the Euros, Pickford would have won the Yashin trophy. For real, this is so undeserving to players who work hard week in and week out to get to their level best during the year, only for their confidence to be dismantled in these yearly awards. If France football have become incompetent to this level of not clearly identifying noteworthy winners of awards, they should step aside for the betterment of the football sport.

It's simple: Cuz he's not European or South American, same thing with any other player, gk who doesn't get signed by a big team is often because they are Asian and African goalkeepers who are top quality but big teams overlook them for Europeans who're not that good tbf(but just cuz they're European). You have alireza beiranvand who saved ronaldo's penalty in the world cup in 2018 but no big team wants to sign him, kinda sad because they think these players can't compete and it even goes as far as not letting national teams who aren't from Europe or South America go far(by refs ofc).

You are right it is a big shame I'm chasing a professional football career even even the scouting programs are very very hard hard and especially for the younger players but compared to the scouting in Europe which is better add more easier. They just make professional football hard for us
There's one thing that isn't being spoken about. Black goalkeepers, including myself, on average tend to be a lot shorter than our white counterparts. That's why there are far less black goalkeepers than White's. I quit football due to my height. I'm 5'10 and that's quite short for a goalkeeper. There are many African goalkeepers that are my height that struggle with this issue.
Prime example, Itumeleng Khune. South Africa's first choice keeper between 2009 and 2018. He was arguably in the top 5 best keepers in the world at his peak, however his height was an issue for European scouts.
Scouts do not want goalkeepers under 6'1. You have to be extremely lucky to to make it if you're under 6 feet.

This hits harder after the Carabao cup final they lost against Liverpool, Mendy was exceptional during the whole game and for some reason the coach tought it was better to replace him at the 118 min for Kepa. I know Kepa has a reputation as a penalty stopper, but come on, you have a goalkeepr that has been consistent and exceptional for the whole season and you think that the sub gk who is in a perfomance dip will do better? Definitely a strong bias there.

As a Chelsea fan I am feeling really humiliated. Mendy is arguably the best keeper in the world rn, give him the respect he deserves. Yaya Toure is the greatest creative midfielder out of Africa, and with respect in the premier league history no offense to Dennis Bergkamp & Paul Scholes who are on my favourite list, he was disrespected so many times I lost count. The truth is.. African/Black players are looked at as genetic freaks of nature but lack the fundamental right decision making at critical moments & this couldn't be further from the truth. The actual truth is, if they are given those opportunities fairly we would see nothing but black players on most top flight leagues around the world, because they clearly can play well in positions that require high football IQ, and also dominate in terms of athleticism. But sometimes those positions are reserved to make others shine too.

Here are all the reasons
Reason 1 Because he is a goalkeepers and goalkeepers in general don’t receive as much respect or attention as other position
Reason 2 Because he did not play in euro 2020 where as donnaruma played (not saying that makes him better) and I think that they have a bias towards the euro as opposed to other continental tournament’s such is caf or copa america
Reason 3 People who give awards like france football or tuttosport always overrate and underrate certain players and thats why there are controversies every year around the ballon dor
So the reason for this is a mix of all of the things I have mentioned mainly eurocentrism and the fact that people don’t put as much respect on goalkeepers as they do to other positions so I guess it was easier for them to give it to donnaruma(best gk award)who had a great euro 2020 winning player of the tournament and also winning the whole thing as opposed to mendy who was better then him but didn’t play in the euro
