    Make no mistake my dear friends this is not just some cheap bedroom practice amp. In the 3rd year since its introduction many gigging/working musicians have taken this amp very seriously.

      Everyone's should own one honestly. If you're thinking about several amps, get the katana. You're just gonna end up wanting one regardless. With all the quality effects built in, it's seriously a no-brainer.

    The trick I read and tested for my katana 100 (I assume the 50 and 2x12 as well) is to turn the master volume either all the way or mostly all the way, and mess around with the volume and gain controls - this is supposed to give you the fullest sound

  • @simonkormendy849
    @simonkormendy849 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

    Not having to touch any of the settings of the 3-band eq on an amp, and still getting a great tone, in my opinion, is a sign of a good amp, you should not have to work very hard to get a great tone out of an amp.

    • @sempei58
      @sempei58 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ok, a little confused....why with all these reviews the amps are miked up . What's the difference in sound between miked up and not miked up? Could be misleading to a novice buyer.

    • @user-lx3dn9bt9e
      @user-lx3dn9bt9e 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@sempei58 they use mics to record the sound properly

    • @simonkormendy849
      @simonkormendy849 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@andycrowley The difference in loudness between a 50W amp and a 100W amp is only about 1dB, for an amp to sound twice as loud as a 50W amp, it needs to put-out four times as much power, so in this case it actually needs to put out 200W not 100W, it all has to do with the human ear's logarithmic response to loudness.

    • @JohnDoe-jc3cl
      @JohnDoe-jc3cl 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I’ve been playing a micro cube since 2010. Liked the fender bass man the the Marshall and the Mesa boogie sounds. I’ve worn out the channel selector ! Got it on aux now.
      I like the bright high ends for country rock on the edge of breaking up.
      Tried a Cube 40 GX, but it had “Digital Artifacts “.
      I’m going for the Katana 50. I play at church every week and my 35+ 43 # amps got too heavy for just 4 songs!
      They just want you to plug in and play anyhow.
      Planning on jamming at other people’s houses more, and the 25# Katana might just be the ticket
      Do the tones of the Katana 50 resemble the micro cube? I’m hoping they are since they’re both made by Roland. ?

    I have the K100 and, the gafc foot pedal. Had it about 1 year, very awesome setup. I gig with a 4pc band absolutely no problem with sound and, power. I play mostly clean country and, some classic rock. I've had some issues with adding some drive to the clean sound, it's either too much or not enough and, I usually will leave the drive on and, try to regulate the volume on the guitar or a volume pedal. This usually works but, it's a very delicate thin line between too much or too little. Honestly I'm still in the learning process with this amp and, pedal and, I've been a musician for well over 50yrs. When I do hit the sweet spot it's awesome, this amp pedal setup is that good and, I'm an old tube man from way back in the 60s. I really enjoy all the suggestions from everybody and, I think my main issue is the balance between the volume and the gain. I'm going to try some if these suggestions and, see what happens. I've not setup any presets maybe I should. This amp is just loaded with possibilities I think the sky is the limit in what can be done if a person takes the time to experiment. I if I would have an amp like this in the 60s it would have been mind blowing!

    The Katana 50/100 are absolutely, without doubt, for the money, the best amplifiers ever sold. I can't name you another amp with as many usable sounds and effect, that I have come across. and I have owned quite a few over the years, from cheap to expensive. Boss hit the mother load when they brought out this little stunner! My only gripe being the foot switch. The GF-AC foot switch is such a boon for the Kat 100. You can switch eight channels and drop individual effects in and out, on each one, Great stuff!!.....So why can't they produce a foot switch to do the same for the Kat 50??? It has to be, hand's down, the biggest seller of the entire range! I have bought an FS7 with a Y cable and a power supply, just to be able to switch the four channels and this has cost me half what I paid for the amp. I know I could have perhaps bought a cheaper option than the fs7, but I would have thought Boss could have produced a dedicated pedal for their biggest seller. Pull your finger out Boss, you would sell loads of them!

    I would love to see you do some more lessons with the Katana amp, and produce some patches of different sounds and musical genres. after struggling with a Mustang II modeling amp for a couple of years, I just love the Katana 50. It's a GREAT amp, especially for the price. It's so much better than any other solid state amp that I've heard, and I imagine it will only get better with time and tech improvements.

    I own the 50 and the head, and I prefer the 2 channel setup of the 50.
    I live on the Crunch setting, with occasional Lead for a solo. The Lead channel starts to get a bit digital sounding on higher gain, and the Brown completely gives it away.
    Get a good boost or overdrive, and you cannot distinguish this amp from a Marshall JCM.

  • @ashcosmo3854

    I have the 100W 2x12... Anyone that says "tubes will always be better" had better start letting go of the past. This amp has already been proven in a blind test against other musicians that it's close to impossible to differentiate between this amp and a bunch of tube amps. If you can get a better amp for this price point I'll be completely shocked.
    I will say it may have been a little overkill to get the 2x12 100W for bedroom practice. This thing could shatter my windows.

    Just so happens, I've got a brand-new boss Katana 100 Mk II 1 x 12 amp, plus the optional GA-FC foot controller and amp cover, that I recently ordered online from Boss Australia, wonderful sounding digital modelling amp, sounds way better than a Line 6 Spider Mk IV, which to my ears has a very digital sound to it that's hard to dial-out, I particularly like how the tremolo effect sounds by itself or with some reverb and the Katana 100 Mk II takes pedals well and plays nicely with them.

    Great amp! Re: the pickup - I just dropped a Pearly Gates bucker in the bridge of my plustop pro.. Never has a guitar sounded better in my crap hands than it does now lol. Thinking the next mod will be to put the 59 in the neck - but if I roll the volume down to about 8 or so and the tone to about 5, to my ears you get all the warmth of a 59 with just a tiny extra little bite to it. Perfect for Zep or (as is self evident) ZZ Top classic blues rock type stuff. It's a bit too thin when I split the coils but otherwise it's amazing.

    Anyone wanna exchange pointers on the katana for jamming loudly with a band? I’ve had some trouble dialing it in at loud volumes. I can nail it when recording. I almost exclusively use the clean channel at about 40-50 gain, max volume, and pretty much noon on the EQ with minor tweaks depending on the guitar/pickups. As soon I switch to any higher gain channels, I lose control and it all sounds insanely glassy and EQ reacts WAYYY differently. Anyone else have thoughts or experience with that?

      Both but mostly the strat which is all single coil. I actually checked out some websites for the best presets out there and I noticed some of them somehow change the sound significantly without actually changing any visible setting within tone studio! Most notably, the sneaky amp presets. I’m not sure how they’re doing it but I suspect it’s via a third party editor. Because I took a fine tooth comb through those presets and couldn’t find a single setting in BTS that actually changed for some of them, yet the sound changes. Global EQ, channel eq, no fx or anything were touched. Confusing but I’m quite happy with some of them! Really opened up a world of sound.

    Do you need to pay extra for the foot pedal or does it come with it? thanks

    Does anyone know if this foot pedal works for the boss katana 50 seen as though they now have 4 channel options via the tone studio?

      To my knowledge, the katana 50 only works with the 2 channel foot switch. But I'm happy to be proved wrong if anyone knows better?

    Hey Andy! Nice video showing all the effects that his amp can produce. I am trying to get the RHCP effect. I see that your amp is set to channel 3 when you play Can't Stop. What effects does Channel 3 have?

    Does this amp have the tubelike response when you try to make a pinch harmonic or does it just kill your sound? No one seems to cover this in the reviews so I'm guessing the Zakk Wylde type squeelies can't be made on the katana. This is a deal breaker for my practice amp shopping so I could really use someone's sincere review.

    Do I have to have a Stratocaster for the blues sound ???
