I have been painting a certain painting for 6 years and never liked it. It was so particular and so much effort. So many hours trying to make it something good it was just dizzying. Then a couple days ago I just went over the whole thing in 10 minuted and created a wonderfully messy vase with flowers and I love it. I feel so liberated!

I know the feeling. I'm experiencing something similar myself with my work. I'm tired of painting tight and being obsessive . Happy painting!

Have just discovered your videos, Bob. Really enjoying them. You have such a lovely manner and genuine love of art. I love your 'woahs'. Your vids make me smile. I tried your flowers today but I over-fiddled and they ended up in the bin. I'll be trying again though! So much fun. Thank you for making these videos and sharing them with us.

What a lovely person you are! So positive and down-to-earth. You have kept your child-like spirit alive and as I get older, the more I realize that is one of the greatest successes one can have! We could sure use more of that in this world. Thank you 😊 💕🖌🎨 (and ps- this painting really appeals to me!)

One of my art profs told me that it is important to figure out when to stop so you don't overdo things. Even a little dash of extra paint can change a composition. With this you can go back and remove something more easily than other methods. It is more forgiving as little glitches make it more interesting.

And Bingo that was what it needed it looks beautiful. All the textures popped and subtle colours under the white can be seen in different lighting conditions. So thanks again.

really dig this bob, nice piece of art there.. that's my bag, and it's not really a choice. being artistic, yet non-neurotypical, means I have to go for it, without much ability to pre-conceptualize.. so, i do most things intuitively, and love the element of surprise, but i do have an affinity for color and texture, curves, but dont know when to quit, lol

Hi Bob, enjoyed this episode. In your abstracts do you use the dominant color as a ground and the compliment as a figure? Do you use transitions of color for depth? How do the main shape compositions that you showed relate to abstracts from the point of perspective/depth in the painting are some better than others for abstract? When going with non perspective and creating a flat canvas is your emphasis on moving the eye through the painting but with marks that emphasise the flatness of the canvas and do you find that it needs perspective/depth to make the painting appealing?

@@SpottedBullet I know what you mean, but I think he's just demoing intuitive choices...for me the intuitive choices happen faster than I could analyze them. That's what's cool about art like this- who knows where the appeal for a choice comes from- could be some tiny little fleeting something from somewhere pleasant you were once....its like getting out of your own way to just create. Just my .02 😁

Hardly. Two very different artists with very different approaches. Burridge encourages people to go original and creative, whereas Bob Ross stuck to the "this is how you paint a happy little tree" for the masses to copy.

Hi Joe, Yes - "I’m going to paint a non-representational painting" is a concept. I establish my concept for the painting before I start. The title (concept) is my intention.
