The thing about speedruns (competitive ones at least) is that there’s lots of luck involved. You can find Tal Eth very early and some other uniques that make low level process very smooth, or you can get constant Magic’s and rares that aren’t even good for your class
The craziest part is there are multiple parts where he could have saved even more time but then again he got super lucky on some maps, lol these records will never end.
It's kinda meh.. Finding a map that has easy access for a good exp source close to a waypoint. Then restart the game in singleplay since it doesn't refresh the game. I would have different rules for this kind of speedruns. No restarting game. So if you clear an area it's cleared.Perhaps a battle.net private game to actually get a new fresh game Maybe no buying mana potions.. Makes too easy to just skip everything with low mana by drinking potions non stop. They drop much more anyways post 1.10 (iirc).
I think it is hillarious that Diablo does not have a spawning animation. He just plops into existence. Developers might have not thought that the player could make it over there that fast.
I've been trying to use bing at work for a solid year now, just to say I gave it a fair shot. At best the results are less helpful than Google's, at worst completely irrelevant third-world garbage. I especially love how futile trying to "bing" a solution to any major MS Outlook problem is, when there isn't often even a relevant link on the first page, compared to just typing the problem into Google and getting it in either the first or second result. I do like their translation tool better than Google's tho.

I don't think its direction of approach related but distance. how many steps char has walked. That's what I found out about farming chests, the drop depends on steps taken not direction of approach. Direction of approach somewhat dictates how many steps you take. Maybe this applies to champion tiles spawns too
I wonder how did you get to Act 5 when the game got out since it didn't have expansion included until 1 year later ? :) I personally transferred one of my existing characters to expansion and talked to tyrael to get into Act5 Hell :)
Can someone help me. I only play Diablo 2 without the expansion and since the newer updates no gas or exploding potions ever drop? (and obviously since a long time I cant buy them). In singleplayer.

At 26:50 you calculate that this record is the same time if you adjust for turning off audio. So if I see it right, the strategy of leveling+teleporting is actually not faster. The extra speed actually comes from replacing finding boss groups through walking by finding them by optimized loading. Interesting!
Some guy called Indrek got a 59:14 run 10 months ago, So why wasnt that counted as the first sub 1hr? Is it because the guy used the players x command? or because it was HC mode?
You can go into your save folder and delete 'charname'.map file in the save folder to reset maps, this would eliminate the load time and shave a few seconds off the map reset.
I guess for people that ask whether anyone can do this.... Unless Llama and the other speedrunners belong to some strange alien species... yes, anyone can do it. What people tend to overlook is the amount of time & work going into something like this. Anyone can learn the tools (what to do when/ strategy/ getting to know map tiles) but only with constant trial and error will you eventually get a run that gets close or even beats the world record. (Do 100 Andariel runs and see the difference in timings between getting great/ terrible maps... it's day and night) It'd be interesting to create a mod that freezes one layout through the entire game and anyone could try themselves without having to have the "luck" factor weighing in too heavily.
I have been wondering for years why my pots say they only heal 320 but i get 1k+ life from em. I have never found that answer on google lol. Thanks for finally answering that.

I can tell from experience that disabling all the sound in the game does benefit its performance. I used to run D2 LoD on Pentium 166 Mhz, 32 MB RAM (sometimes 16 MB RAM), 200-300 MB swap space (with less than 100 MB the game could crash), and without sound most of lags were eliminated, as well as the loading times were much shorter. It was, like, the final performance of my old gaming station. Disable sound, get 100+ MB swap space, and voila, I'm playing with power, despite the fact that my system doesn't meet the minimum requirements. Some tweaks to the windows registry could make the game act as a CD install, consuming next to none of my hard disk space, but how I learned that was another story.

This was completely amazing, when reading the title of the video I really thought that this was some lucky stuff, you know, the kind of exits/stars/doors found in diablo 1 speed runs./ but no, like llama said, It's just solid. And I found it amazing that the strat it's to farm for levels.
It makes the map screen smaller however where his mouse is located (at the corner) is where he will teleport to, which is outside of the map that you see.

Quick question for non-sorc classes. Is getting a teleport charge weapon/amulet/circlet a valid strat for speed running? I understand rng and gold are going to be a big factors there, but assuming you can fulfill both on one or two out of every hundred or so runs, wouldn't you be able to shave off a huge amount of time. It seems like it would at least be good in theory, even if it had to be used in bursts due to repair costs.

With only 8 minutes invested to get to the jail, it will eventually become standard to just reset the run, rather than using the TCP/IP trick.

Click single player, then enter. There is no hot key for the single player button.

that was tcp/ip menu, he probably had bad jail reroll on the previous run so he restarted
100% confirmed he is using a bot for half this run.
@@Siberial Wasn't implying bot, but it's not unreasonable to load a preset map to get the layouts you want, considering they are static in SP.
