    Hi there
    I have spent the last 90 minutes watching your DC Generator lessons. I am meant to be studying for an exam and looked on TH-cam for extra info. What I have seen in the hour and a half is worth so much more than a day spent in the classroom yesterday.
    I'm not the smartest student but I found these videos really helped me understand the math side of working out values and what is involved with the self excitation of a generator.
    I will be passing this link on to other students like me who struggle to keep up because the tutor has to keep going and ramming information at us for two weeks solid without breaking it down like you have done.
    I hope you feel proud that people appreciate what you do and how you do it. You are the teacher most people would like to have and the one that so few get.
    All the best

    I finally understood what's happening. You made it so simple, Professor.Thank you so much.

    The fact you drew a proper representation to the left really helps a lot of students like me who need to apply it to something. It's transforming a wiring diagram into something that can actually be used in the real world; not just some lines on a page

    Perhaps it would've been useful to mention that in a generator, the standard rotation is clockwise, and the current flows, in the armature, from A2 -> A1. So A2 is positive and A1 is negative. In the shunt field the current flows from F2 -> F1. According to your diagram on the board, A1 would be positive and A2 negative, so that would be a diagram of a motor, because the rotation would be counter-clockwise. Or that might be a generator that it's not in a standard rotation, and, in that case, the armature leads need to be changed. Very good presentation though. I really enjoyed it.

    great explanation, Greetings from Jordan, our professor just fails at explaining anything even if its the simplest thing there is, he'll just make it hard to understand and complicate the heck out of it.

    Do you have any videos on Armature Reaction?

  • @lojak111

    I like your video lots of good information, you seem like you have spent some time out on the floor and in the field working with electric motors and generators, as opposed to just instructing. Nothing being wrong with either.

    a question will the increasing current not be opposed by field winding coil?

      Only for a split second... back emf is very emphasized in the theory

    Question. When you rate the coil at 500 ohms. 500 ohms of resistance or 500 ohms of inductive reactance?

    • @blowemall
      @blowemall 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Resistance measured at zero frequency (DC). Reactance is a function of frequency. So the rating of 500 Ohms is always the DC resistance.
