I'm not a sidecar guy, but after watching this video, I can definitely see the attraction. All of Old Baldy's videos are great, with the perfect mix of technical details, his own expert opinions and interviews with people who really know what's what. The dog, wife and grandkids were great and definitely demonstrated the value of a sidecar.
I respect my elders. They are my mentors ........ You and your wife are 7 levels above ...... great video and thank you for the hard work it takes to post them !!!! 🙂
I'm really considering selling my Harley Sportster and buying a ural. Russian was my fourth language. So I might even have a little fun with folks when I go on long trips, lol.
@Ural Motorcyclist I've followed enough Ural TH-cam channels to convince me that the Urals are great machines, until you start to put a lot of miles on them. They seem like great bikes for short rides, but once you venture out, you are going to be replacing things like relays and bearings until you replace all of that factory stuff with quality aftermarket stuff. They are great once you get them dialed in and fitted with the quality parts they should come with as standard. Especially considering the price. I have never owned a Ural, but they interest me a lot as a bike nut. My comments are based on third hand accounts, not my experience.
Love the video. Very informative. I have been seriously thinking of getting a Ural now for two or three years. I have always been a cruiser type motorcycle rider, three of them being Harleys. My current bike is a 2013 Harley Davidson Ultra Classic, so that’s full tour pack and comfortable passenger seat. I use it to commute to work, and some weekend day trips with my wife. I do find that I do get tired after riding for a while, and balancing a 960 lb bike in the city, add to that our combined weight with my bike, my wife , and me is 1300lb. I’m 57 years old, so not getting any younger. Also, I do love what I call the “Throw and Go” ability for commuting to work where I simply throw my work bag in the rear trunk of the Ultra and go. No tie down strapping required. I would certainly be able to do that with a Ural. I’m not sure if I should start with and older model for less money, or get one of the newer Urals from 2019 up.
I've had a sidecar on my 1988 Harley Davidson Lowrider for 34 years, off and on, but more on. It is fantastic fun, especially in the mountains with no one in the chair, lots of weight transfer and drifting. I've always wanted an ADV sidecar, but I already have too many bikes.
I did remove the little, difficult to remove & maintain battery, and put a regular car battery in the trunk which has a better cold cranking power and added a trickle charger for our cold winters.
I bought a GEO too. Remember its built focusing for more off road riding with the Nitro shocks and trials tires. Tractor seats are not for off road. The bench seat allows you to move around the bike to distribute your weight. Of course they're is only so much you can do that with a sidecar.
Hi David, I’m riding a 2016 Gear Up with stock shocks, and I’m seriously considering making the investment in the Nitron shocks. I’m 5’-7” and 150 pounds. I’m not very pleased with the stockies when off-roading. I’d appreciate your feedback on the Nitrons! 🙏
Anyone that has one of these bikes my hats off to you. You lucky devils. I can't afford one my self but watching you all is close to my dream. So help out and make more videos. Send ural makes my love. And I love there passion. With they change the orange to bright bright green. Lol. But it's perfect like it is. Even red would look good also. Godbless you all and live that dream for me.
I have a 2014 Ural Patrol which i love! In fact i added a DMC sidecar on my 2005 Kawasaki 1600 Nomad which makes it slower but is very stable on my knarly Alaskan roads.
Awsome vid guys! Loved the moment when the garage door opens and the Ural specialists workshop is revealed. Reminds me of my journey today from my garage to garden to start up my XR650L for the first time in more than 4 years and feel there is life in the old motor. Garage workshop in the vid with it's meticulous organisation is what I aspire to.
Thanks! Did you notice one of the wrenches was not hanging exactly straight up and down like the others? I'll post the complete interview with Mike one of these days where I ask him about that wrench. He says someone used some of his tools and must have left it hanging that way. I straightened it and he felt better.
Again another great video. Hope this leads to manufacturers contacting you for more bike opportunities, because you're making some really entertaining videos!
Its on my "One of these days" list. I did go shopping for one in 2000 but was not impressed with the fit and finish of the bikes back then. Now that I'm an amputee it would be a fun addition but I would always want a motorcycle. A Ural and a 650 Royal Enfield. That might work.
I’m an LBK (left below knee) amputee, and I ride a 2016 Gear Up Ambassador. I had the left foot peg removed, and the extended foot box put on. Now, having my prosthetic “behave” is never an issue. I have the hand shifter with reverse lever by the fuel tank, and I can ride as well as any able-bodied rider, and better than a few of them. If you’re seriously considering getting back on a bike, this package is ideal. If you’re ever in New England, hit me up, and we’ll take it out & run her thru her paces!
I have a 2013 Limited edition Gaucho Rambler, and I love it. But, I purchase a GEO in a heartbeat. What an awesome looking machine!! Thanks for the video!!
I just bought a 2007 500cc Royal Enfield Bulllet with sidecar. I haven’t driven it yet. I had it delivered to my mechanic to go through everything to make sure all is good. I think it’s going to be fun. 👍👍👍
I first learned about Ural’s in 2010 and fell in love them. I’m a vintage-looking cruiser sort of guy - and the Ural’s looks sold me. I haven’t bought one yet, but I did get my motorcycle license (I ride a 2009 Suzuki C50) and I will get my Ural some day. I love the Geo paint job - I will have a hell of a time choosing between it and a more vintage looking paint scheme.
Amen to the classic looks. I really like the Ural as well. But for me I would get the Solo St model, no sidecar. Looks way better, but that is my opinion. Even with the sidecar it is still a cool looking bike. Has that industrial Russian look to it.
1982 I toured Tasmania on a 1972 Cossack..chair but only 2wd because right hand drive n it went up some of the toughest bush tracks in Australia...I adored it but swapped it for a 750/4 ...I want a new one now 🤠
By now, I've watched quite a few of your videos, but I looked for this one to see what y'all had to say about these and I was hoping you weren't going to goof on it. I got what I wanted in a review. And maybe a bit more. I just started looking for a sidehack rig and Ural's are, well, more common, and affordable than an old BMW with a sidecar. In the 70's I sold and installed sidecars on bikes. Never had much interest before and discovered that a sidecar adds a whole new dimension to riding. Still didn't put one on my own bike. After watching this video, I am definitely going to buy a Ural for a rider. (I did wonder why you spent the time pushing it backwards when it has a reverse until you explained that). A little critique on your off road riding with that bike: In every instance except the drowning, you would never have had to take a second run at anything if you had been quicker on the gas. I'll chalk that up to you not being sure of the bikes abilities rather than inexperience. This was possibly, for me, the most informative video of yours I have seen yet. Thanks for making it and my search is now in high gear. I trust your appraisal more than a dealer. Good stuff guys!
I first saw one of these in the 70's. The owner had bought it new and had to rebuild. The bores were .005" oval, the rear diff leaked and the the gears did not mesh properly, the paint peeled off, welds broke, the carbs were untuneable, it was endless. He completely renovated it and when he was finished he had a quiet, reliable, comfortable ride, with a reverse and two wheel drive that actually worked. I looked at one, but the price !!!. These things are now Can$ 20K +. Nope
Interesting video. My wife says I was off center before I got the Ural - that was 7 years ago. 2008 Patrol, used, that's been at high altitude and low, with a pair of trials tires on the back it will go anywhere. Overshot a corner on a Jeep trail in the mountains and had the front wheel hanging in the air. Put it into 2-wheel reverse, pulled everyone back onto the road and powered away. Never had to get my butt out of the saddle... 3 wheel slides around large flat desert dirt roads are an exquisite experience.
I didn't even knew this existed. I am dreaming Ural since 2017 when I got my license. Never driven a sidecar. But if I could afford one, I'd do. And this GEO just got me drooling. But Svetlana and my personal countess of cash both say no...
Great video! My family lives near Pescadero...fantastic riding there. I haven't been to visit since the fires. Boulder Creek was really trashed...what a shocker. Will they make the same featured bike without the four-stage paint? The paint's nice, but the upgrades are what make it!
I had brand new Ural from 1991 and made 16k miles on it until the crankshaft counterweight broke in half under the new owner not long after I sold it. The number of break downs was really impressive with this bike. I don't know if they are any better nowadays but at least they got better shocks :D And a sealed trunk which wasn't the case earlier. ;)
" the number of breakdowns was really impressive" ... in a good or bad way? I remember a UK bike mag review for the Ural in the 70's or 80's summarising with "if they build their ballistic missiles to the same quality we have nothing to worry about". I gather that since then things have changed. For the past few years (ie under the new American owner) parts have been progressively more-and-more sourced from the same Eastern (Thailand, Taiwan) suppliers that Ducati, Triumph etc use. I read somewhere that a Hilux alternator is used ... which is a pretty good recommendation reliability-wise.
Why in the world would someone buy this over a 1970's or 80's BMW "THE GOAT" if you need occasional two wheel drive or reverse, install an electric hub motor on the side-car's wheel. Becomes own generator when not in use. Just my opinion 😁
Ce film m'a fait rêver, un seul regret, je ne parle pas anglais, j'aurais aimé que les sous-titres soient en français. Mais bravo, votre enthousiasme est communicatif !😊
I want one and have wanted one for about 18 years. They are expensive and weren't practical for work drive. And had to spend on vehicle I could use everyday. Sure are beautiful though. And my favorite is the olive drab. Maybe one day.
great video, love the look of the Geo. Been thinking about a Ural for long time but haven't had the opportunity to try driving one. it's a lot of cash to put down for something that might not suit.
Wow. So I'm going through Ural videos and as this video is going, I'm like "that has to be the voice of Plant Chompers." And look at that, there you are. Couldn't have possibly fin found a more trustworthy source!
Hi sir i hope u good today,i like ur content about motor cycle with sidewheel.awesome..it's my 1st time to see like this 3 wheels with reverse gear.and im so amaze, and wondering..GOD bless.i love motor cycles.ride safe sir.thank u.
I own a 2021 Gear Up since new... just a few thoughts. Uphills, off pavement, loaded with passenger and gear I can tell you this, 1st gear is geared too high for real world off pavement work which is a REAL SHAME IMHO. The Sachs shocks are worthless POS. The Enduro bench seat is as comfortable as a brick up the backside. 2wd is very handy and so is reverse. Just about every person that sees you either smiles or waves. UDF, Ural Delay Factor, is for real. Ural's 3 yr warranty is a must and they are great at honoring it. I run Duro 307 trail tires and surprisingly, they work very well. Don't expect to zip up hills 6% or more any faster than say 40-50Mph. Owning one is a lesson in pulling over at wide spots to let traffic go by that we were holding up and never been flipped off! Waves, photos smiles even some stares but, everyone is like "Oh a sidecar. Must be old and slow." That and I have a reflective sign that reads, "Please Be Patient" on the back. Suspension upgrade is expensive at $1500.00-3k+. But the one thing that I would say is the most annoying thing about my Gear Up is the lack of a Granny Low Gear to be able to crawl over an obstacle. It is a HUUGE drawback. It means a lot of clutch work and irritation, so, get a winch if your seriously going off road. You will need it. If you're the typical Uralista that never takes the machine off pavement then the gearing will be fine and, "Shifts like a tractor." The $34,000.00 version has good suspension but, is it really worthy of that price? My answer is a sad "No." For less you could buy a street legal side by side that is much more capable and won't pound you to death and into physical therapy for an impinged spine. Of course that wouldn't be as "COOL" though.
All I can say is , I want one , done the 4wd thing , so my dog can come to , a bike where my dog can sit ….awesome…..I’m in Australia , where are they sold in Australia….?…..well done guys ….brilliant concept….
Gee Baldy, I seriously wonder about your ADV skills. The bike missfire in the rain and phoning a friend?? That was probably the plug leads shorting from getting wet. (and should not be doing that). The second thing about you owing a sidecar already, and not aware of the off camber opposite reaction down or uphill?? Isn't this the same dynamics that applies to accelerating and braking thrust? How about some good offroad rider technique and get out of the saddle and onto the pegs and counter balance, and some input help also from the passenger? I did enjoy the video, a real world view of this amazingly good looking outfit. 2WD action next time please. Ural factory was awesome too.
Yeah it should be obvious... but for the oblivious viewer who doesn't trial nor sidecar but is interested in it, this was perfect documentary. I've read that all before and after it was pointed out, it was indeed obvious to me too. In the afterthought. To me, someone who learns something inside of a documentary - regardless of true or acted - conveys a better learning experience for the viewer than an expert who simply states what he knows. Nonetheless, he pointed out he never brought his 2006 to the dirt. Twisting slopes aren't very common on asphalt roads. Despite that he managed to keep the ride safe.
Thanks for making video fairly interested not the best mechanic in the world but decent no dealers around where I live if Honda made the same bike I was standing on to get
Haha, I'm one of those 2000 people on the waiting list for the electric version. I'm a bit bummed out to hear there's no imediate plans to continue with development. Oh well, who knows, if more cities start restricting access for combustion engines maybe there'll be more of a demand.
Love it. Love Urals. ONLY issue I would have before heading out on a long tour of Canada (where I live) with the wife and dog is reliability. No one ever seems to address this directly... Anyone care to comment? How reliable are the new Urals?
Pretty solid if you use them as intended. If you plan on doing only 70+ mph freeway rides, over long distances. It’s probably not the best tool. If you’re handy with a wrench, they are very easy to repair and speaking with Ural directly. They will help you get back on the road, if you don’t have a dealer near.
With a dog on the bike I'd want the quietest pipe possible. Dog ears are sensitive and the wind alone is probably deafening at highway speeds. That's why we wear plugs.
The fuel injected versions run hot as Hades. They cook their oil and Pistons. The dish brakes require bleeding and new fluid every 7000 miles where the drum brakes you can adjust them and bikes equipped with disc brakes they're stopping distance is no shorter. Keep your old bike
Отец покупал за 1540 рублей! В далёком уже 1976-м...И проходил он тогда как тяжёлый мотоцикл с коляской УРАЛ М- 67.Приравнивался к легковому автомобилю.Имея Урал, можно было строить гараж
Very cool, like your own private tilt-a-whirl.. was interested in a sidecar but I think I'll stick with 2 whls.. bouncing around off road short of river crossings, kinda reminds me of driving a 2 dr wrangler with the top down. Bonus.. We sleep in ours with the dog. Try that in a Ural. 😄 lol
G'day from down under.. I really enjoyed your video. That geo is one cool outfit. I have a Dnepr Mt9 outfit that I'm currently working on & looking forward to many adventures. By the way I have a Rottweiler that is really looking forward to traveling with me.. Cheers.
@@cptjusticegmail oh I have seen converted left hand car Urals but none that have the two wheel drive with Left and car. Here so close to Australia (NZ) we get right hand car with 2wd or left hand car conversion with single wheel drive.
Get your wife a new helmet if thats a RF200. I bought one way back in 93. It was used as a backup for when it rained. So anyways the interior started to deteriorate and so I was throwing it out and threw it on the floor and it broke. Maybe UV damage ? And yes it was stored inside or in a saddlebag.
I got to ride a Ural back in 1997 the deco teal one absolutely loved it could not afford it so now I’m looking And can’t believe the price is as much as a new Goldwing I don’t see that.

The best way to travel and explore. Badass bike and a sidecar with a canine companion.
Baldy, your wife is a trooper. I can't imagine mine riding in the rain let alone the other stuff you did. Great video.
Well done buddy. I see a new ADV sticker in the works... with the line underneath it depicting
"Slightly off center"
Hahaha... 😁 That's actually a great idea.
Dogfishhead beer might not like that... "Off centered Ales for off center people."
Mike really knows his stuff. What a wholesome guy
I always kinda liked Ural's since the first time I seen them, This was a good report on them.

I’d love one of these as second to my softail Street Bob.
If you’re planning long trips, I’d stay away from the Urals. They are okay bikes if you don’t plan on putting a ton of miles on them.

Luvly, I’d buy one just because the people who run the company are so cool onya guys xox ; )
I had brand new Ural from 1991 and made 16k miles on it until the crankshaft counterweight broke in half under the new owner not long after I sold it. The number of break downs was really impressive with this bike. I don't know if they are any better nowadays but at least they got better shocks :D And a sealed trunk which wasn't the case earlier. ;)
1991 !
@@alfnoakes392 it was definitely in a bad way.
Это совсем разные мотоциклы
Why in the world would someone buy this over a 1970's or 80's BMW "THE GOAT" if you need occasional two wheel drive or reverse, install an electric hub motor on the side-car's wheel. Becomes own generator when not in use. Just my opinion 😁
Such a good thorough vid Chris, kind thoughtful informative etc, loved it.................thankyou
I want a Ural to bring my golden retriever along for rides
My Golden loves mine! Wish I could post a picture. My town loves seeing him chilling in the sidecar as we cruise around town
I was thinking about getting one so I can bring my dog along too
I so look forward to the day of owning a Ural! Got to sell some more toys before I can afford it!
Awesome video! Thku...
just wow what an awesome bike....i want an adventure type setup like this so so bad
Your dog seems to like it. He looks pretty comfy.
That's is why I love AMERICA , is for the people like you 🇺🇸❤️
Love the color scheme.
Just got my 3 wheel endorsement on a 2017 Ural! DMC expedition sidecar for my R1250 GSA on the way. Awesome video!!!
This is seriously making me want to buy a ural. I have a lot of learning to do
Love that paint! One day I’ll have a Ural for the pooch, he’d love it.
I have a 2018 Gearup and I'm loyal to my Bike who I aptly named, "Tatanya". She runs all year long here in Alberta.
Wanted one of these for years
@@jefschnitzler2377 well worth the money Jeff, I don’t think you’ll regret your purchase. My advise is get the 2 year extended warranty if you can.
What a great review. I’m planning a couple of transcontinental trips and this is food for thought
Been thinking about a Ural for long time but haven't had the opportunity to try driving one. it's a lot of cash to put down for something that might not suit.
best bike review style ever
Thanks!
Wow. So I'm going through Ural videos and as this video is going, I'm like "that has to be the voice of Plant Chompers." And look at that, there you are.
Couldn't have possibly fin found a more trustworthy source!
Awesome documentary work!

Wonderful review... I loved it... I would give it two thumbs up, but there is only one button 😉
Great video!!
Great bike and very fun out there on one of these in a adventure ride. Entertaining video sir.
Thoroughly enjoyed watching your review. Thank you 😃👍
I own a 2021 Gear Up since new... just a few thoughts.
Seriously thinking of buy one.. very informative video and well produced 👍🏴🥃
Despite that he managed to keep the ride safe.
your dog definitely likes it!
Ural needs to make an electric, that would be cool! Outstanding video, by the way.
Thanks for making video fairly interested not the best mechanic in the world but decent no dealers around where I live if Honda made the same bike I was standing on to get
A fun and interesting video, thanks.
Haha, I'm one of those 2000 people on the waiting list for the electric version. I'm a bit bummed out to hear there's no imediate plans to continue with development. Oh well, who knows, if more cities start restricting access for combustion engines maybe there'll be more of a demand.
This is so good!
Sold my 2007 Patrol a few year ago and have missed it ever since.
Love it.
That made me smile -----
Baldy, hope to see your Ural one of these days up at Alice's.
The fuel injected versions run hot as Hades. They cook their oil and Pistons. The dish brakes require bleeding and new fluid every 7000 miles where the drum brakes you can adjust them and bikes equipped with disc brakes they're stopping distance is no shorter. Keep your old bike
😄 lol
Tent FTW
G'day from down under.. I really enjoyed your video. That geo is one cool outfit. I have a Dnepr Mt9 outfit that I'm currently working on & looking forward to many adventures. By the way I have a Rottweiler that is really looking forward to traveling with me..
Cheers.
I just wish they could make one in two wheel drive with the car on the left, for us countries like mine that drive/ride on the left
They have for a couple of years. Australia and the UK get them.
Unless you meant this particular version.
@@cptjusticegmail oh I have seen converted left hand car Urals but none that have the two wheel drive with Left and car.
Here so close to Australia (NZ) we get right hand car with 2wd or left hand car conversion with single wheel drive.
Awesome video! Thank you.
I just bought her a new Schuberth! $869. Ow.
I got to ride a Ural back in 1997 the deco teal one absolutely loved it could not afford it so now I’m looking And can’t believe the price is as much as a new Goldwing I don’t see that.
