Clay’s mom is the MVP of this episode. She’s an absolute legend. Holding her ex accountable, without embarrassing him on TV, is total class. It breaks my heart that AD feels like she’s not enough, and I really hope she realizes that she’s a catch, and she dodged a bullet with Clay.
She sure is a class act! She handled that situation with class. Gave him a piece of her mind, but she kept it dignified.
So loved how Clay’s mom didn’t let the ex gloss over how his actions impacted Clay’s decisions.

Clay is a snake oil salesman. He's always selling something he doesn't believe in. Her financial situation and the fact he isn't all the way in love with her were truths he only had for the camera. Same way he deals with his issues with his father. He tends to baby himself when honesty and responsibility are due. Just like in the scene with his dad, just like when he goes to talk to AD. He's still that kid on those infidelity trips and is anxious about ever surpassing his father - in sports and in life.

That's the storyline Netflix tried to create. It's not reality that Clay's dad ghosts Clay, his sister and mom and pop up at his wedding. If Clay's dad is such an asshole, why even show up at his wedding, it was very staged the moment we saw Clay had with his dad. Clay seems to come from a Cosby Show traditional black loving family that was a great launch-pad.

I’ve been checking for Tait’s review since last night. First time I’m ahead of Tait 😮
AD missed a couple red flags during the experiment but regardless of that, my heart broke for her and it was so sad to see her alone in that room at the end of their scene. Clay's mom is so wise and I loved the scene with her and Clay's dad. Jimmy made the right decision...not just for himself but for Chelsea as well and hopefully she see's that in present time.
AD just dodged the bullet of a lifetime and hopefully she sees that by now
A couple red flags 🥴 ? Every time that man opened his mouth, there were red flags flying everywhere. And he barely ever talked about what he liked about her as an individual, only what she did to affirm him and make him feel better and more confident. I think at the altar was the first time I heard him actually call her beautiful. I'm so mad she said "I do" and let that worthless man embarrass her like that.
She was so desperate for a husband that she tried to BUILD him into the man she wanted instead of seeing him for who he really is. He would’ve never made it out the pods with me.

As much as he was a creep, he was extremely handsome and articulate and I think AD was infatuated by the outer package, and didn't really delve into the core of the....guy.

It’s crazy to me that Clay just had no concept of the show at all, from beginning to end. From “I wanna know what you look like” to “we really gotta get married in a month?” He literally started watching previous seasons a week before the wedding!!!
This man went on the show for clout. Period.
I honestly don’t think he got past the physical part. He may have pretended he liked her appearance but thought otherwise.

She let him know that he messed up their child and just like Clay ('cause he learned it from his dad) he was ready to "oh well my father wasn't in my life so..." Glad she let him know that excuse wasn't going to fly anymore. The buck needs to stop with you or else you're going to continue to create a lineage of "aint ish" men and will you be proud of that. He seemed like he understood and then went back to, oh Clay just needs to find him a you. And she got him together again, okay well you found me and dogged me out so let's cut that nonsense as well. Margarita took us to churchhhh. we know Clay looks up to his dad and (in ways) unhealthily molds his life after his, but the scene with his parents really broke my heart. his mother is such a beautiful and intentional woman and WE STAN so knowing she had an old wound with new truths opened up for her hurt to see. and watching Clay's father sidestep accountability when Margarita was telling him how his actions affected Clay, (while yes, remorseful) hearing him resort to the fact that basically his father didn't show him a good example, AT HIS BIG AGE, felt like looking at Clay in a time passing mirror. a self fulfilling prophecy that Clay is likely to live out if he doesn't make the changes and sort out that generational pain now. Clay and AD at the altar went as we would have expected, but the emotional richness of everyone involved, from moments up to and after the decision was nice to witness. LIB parents are the real MVP's

I just got so furious after Clay said no... in the commentary, he said he was not actually DEEPLY IN LOVE... like wtf?!? If he was not in love, he should have TOLD her, and made sure they broke it off before the altar (I don't like Jimmy, but at least he got that right), instead of leading her on, and humiliating her on top of breaking her heart... gosh. The thing I really noticed in ad and clays wedding was the lack of people there. I had a super small wedding too, but it almost felt like clay just didn’t invite them many people cause they didn’t wanna bring everyone out there for nothing.
The episode starts. Skips recap. Sees Chelsea's frown. Ugh. Starts to skip through. Reads Jimmy's subtitles. Oh waw 😮 Pause. Goes back to the start lool. Chelsea is really unhinged.

Following the new episode i need someone to do a comparison between Clay and Johnny before the wedding when they were describing why they were marrying AD and Amy. The difference is so stark. All Clay cares about is what she can do for him. To support him. He wants a caregiver. Yet the way Johnny speaks about Amy are things that make her who she is. Her personality and qualities.

The OMGW moment of the season is the conversation between Clay’s mom and dad, an unexpected and cathartic experience all post-divorce families need to see. This was epic. And so real.
