- After the sale of Douglas Luiz Aston Villa had a massive hole to fill in midfield and they look to have filled that void with the reported £50 million transfer of Amadou Onana from Everton. The Belgian International has been building a huge reputation across European football over the last few years and this has all the hallmarks of an Unai Emery & Monchi transfer. Further to that the 4D Chess Villa have been playing in the transfer market has gone to a new level with the return of Cameron Archer & Jadon Philogene. After seeing how Unai has improved players we had when he arrived, I stop basing new players on what they did at other clubs. Sure, the basics of what they do and good stats are obvious. I just know that Unai is going to have them play HIS way and what they have done before stops being so relevant. Unlike previous managers and people in charge of transfers, I have complete faith and just sit back and wait for the season to start. It's a pretty good time to be a Villa fan.

How about this "2nd team". Gauchi, Digne, Mings, Carlos, Kosta, Barrenechea, Barkley, Illing, Philogene, Buendia and Rogers up front. Could change a bit with incomings and outgoings, but it looks pretty decent. Have a feeling Unai will use Rogers as a 10 or a striker.
Regardless if he goes or not, Diaby is willing to entertain a move away from Villa and subsequently CL football.. a lot can be said about the negative mindset there, be it his own concern over playing in the prem or the fact he wants money over substance, either way get this guy gone and spend that 70 mill wisely (or 20mill if you subtract Onana) UTV

Quinny, Great analysis mate. As an Aston Villa supporter this is the most excited I’ve ever been for a start to the season. Squad looks really strong but I can still see a block buster signing or two still coming in over the next couple of weeks. As with Diaby and Duran it seems their days at the club are numbered,
IIRC, part of the Cameron Archer sale to Sheffield included an obligation to buy back if they were relegated, which is why he's back at Villa - so I can't see him staying there long-term. There's also links with Moreno wanting to head back to Spain and potentially Diego Carlos heading off as well.
From your graphic, I'm expecting at least three out of Archer, DC, Hause, Moreno, Cash, and Duran to go before the transfer window shuts. Possibly Diaby as well, if the Saudi links are true and the transfer fee is high enough. If those happen, I'd expect another forward to be able to compete with Watkins, another starting RB, and another CB, but not too many incomings. I think this transfer window is mostly about shedding some of the fringe players and just reinforcing the options in a couple of key areas.
I'm gutted to see Diaby leave but if he wants to then as long as it's a good deal sell him we could even try to look at Alvarez who wants out of City apparently
All the signings are set to improve the squad and compliment the style of play to improve the overall performances in all competitions.
Yeah our squad is ridiculously stacked now after this transfer window. It looks like Unai wants to mount a title challenge this year. I won't be surprised if we finish 2nd or 3rd but even if we have a bit of a bad season we all trust that Unai is the man to fix it.
I have a great feeling about this season, even more than last year.

Great videos! Loving where we are going as a club and some genuinely exciting prospect players. Could see ST- Beier coming in, CAM jesper lindstrøm. RB - Kayode and CB - Hermoso or Bijol coming in and that would be a perfect window. Baena if we are being extra greedy.

Ideal ins for me. A big, dominant in the air Cb to pair with Pau. I'd like a new RB but I still still we could use Konsa a lot. I'd personally love Nordi Mukiele.
Another striker is a must for me, someone maybe who is more of a target man. Different to Watkins, I don't think we'll replace Diaby.

We didn't buy Archer back. We had a clause that if Sheff Utd went down, they didn't have to give us the £9M they owed us & sent Archer back. He will be sold again.
And I doubt Dobbin will play a single minute for our first team. His pattern at Everton was always the same. Given some minutes to show what he can do, followed by long periods of absence after he failed to do so.
Hause will go. As will Carlos, Duran, Moreno, Dendoncker & unfortunately Diaby.
So we need a further RCB, RWF, CAM & ST.
LB/LWB will be covered with Digne, Maatsen & Iling-Junior.
LM/LW will be covered by Ramsey, Iling-Junior, Rogers & Philogene.
RB/RWB will be covered by Cash & Nedeljković,
RM/RW will be covered by Bailey, Philogene & New-Guy
LCB will be covered by Mings & Pau Torres
RCB will be covered by Konsa & New-Guy
CDM will be covered by Barkley, Kamara, Barranechea, Tielemans & Onana.

Do you think Rogers will become a regular starter? He is doing well so far in the pre-seasons ....
He did fantastically well in the second half of the season after he signed too, so he is 100% a squad option. I think there will be lots of changes made depending on opponents with the transfers we are making. Rogers will play a fair bit, I imagine.

I dont think a goalkeeper should be conceding at the rate that Olsen is, so he has to go sooner rather than later. Im not a huge fan of Gauci either, having watched hum multiple times over the past few years in the A'League. Despite being a decent shot stopper, he has too many mistakes in him.

Dougie's passes n corner kicks for straight n goals. If he was on a big fix team would be worth a 100 mil. Big loss for AV.

Admittedly it's quite relative. Olsen is bad because he's replacing Emi. In the grand scheme of things he's not terrible. You have to be quite fortunate to have a GK close to the level of your main GK, especially when the Main guy is so good.
Either that or you sign your second choice 1st.
I disagree on the Ortega comment. Oregano walks into most PL sides and is closer to Ederson in ability than Olsen is to Emi.
Anyway. I'm sure Gauci gets a shot pre-season so let's see how he does.
