I am 100% here for this. I'm really glad you've moved on from a toxic employer.
I had a similar experience, I worked for a big energy company in UK. I worked at one of their call centres, worked hard, mastered the area I was trained in and transferred to another office due to personal reasons.
As a result of that change, I became the person who knew the most about that field, in the office and subsequently became everyone's go to (it was what I imagine it was like being a rock star - everyone knew me, and I had no idea who any of them are!).
Through sheer hard work and commitment on my side, I was promoted to learning and development, and I quickly earned a reputation for taking no prisoners and telling things how they are; to the point that within a week in the job, I had told one of my colleagues the training wasn't fit for purpose and helped re-write the whole thing so it was a better experience for everyone going through it, for the trainer's training it, and better results for management.
That all came to a head when somebody approached me to ask a simple question - "whose responsible for this?" And I answered. "They say it's not them, that it's this other team" to which, I replied "biggest load of bollocks I've heard this year - and I've heard *a lot* of bollocks this year!" Then asked them to leave it with me.
Half an hour and two emails later, I had two important people on record pointing me to the team I stated were responsible, and passed it on. The manager in question was overjoyed to have it resolved, and introduced me to one of her contacts, who'd been working on this issue... For six months.
Apparently, after six months, he had gotten exactly nowhere, and I had fixed it, in a morning, whilst I was also training a team.
Needless to say, he didn't like me much!
Next time a group was being trained, one of the people from scheduling made a point to let me know what days they were on, just in case there were any issues, then a couple of hours later had to apologetically backtrack, because I wasn't training them - despite being the best qualified, having the most experience, and having run the training team (which often meant twelve hour days, some of that time was unpaid, skipped breaks, ten minute lunches where I literally inhaled a sandwich because I had about enough time to *buy* food, not to buy and consume...).
Couldn't get anyone on the record about the reasons.
I dusted myself off, and two jobs came up. Both perfect for me, in two very different ways. Rejected at the first hurdle.
The same job came up in another office, so using the same details, I submitted an application... Flew through the first stage, then the second, the third, got an email saying I had been shortlisted for interview...
I turned down the job in the end and left.
It was abundantly clear to me that their entire issue with me had *nothing* to do with my work ethic, my ability, my professionalism or my experience, and entirely to do with who I am and that I will show up bad colleagues who just want to tread water on cushy assignments.
I don't know what you've been through, Luke, that would be massively insulting, I can relate to it and I have a feeling you will look back on that choice as one of the best decisions you ever made.
Again, good on you for having the fortitude to make that decision.

Dude, I have been a fan of this channel for a little while but this was the video that spoke to me directly. I quit my job back in May as a support analyst for a healthcare company. It was long 8-9 hour days of sitting at a computer in my bedroom trying to solve tech issues for hospitals and medical practices. I would routinely have to take mental health days because I was depressed and contemplated suicide almost daily. I told my manager I would work for two weeks but she said it would be best if I just got done right then and there. They didn’t care about me, it was all a facade. Ive been looking for work since so I can pay my bills and student loans from my TOTALLY USEFUL English Degree. Living on an island off the coast of Maine, opportunities are either get on a lobster boat or move. My parents have grilled me for quitting my job; just like you said, they are part of a generation that only values work and a paycheck rather than true happiness (which is why their jobs make them miserable)
This is a long ramble that I never do but this really struck a chord with me (music pun). I have been wanting to be a content creator for so long and I really think that it will bring me true happiness to do something I love and make other happy and enjoy it. Luke, I wish you the best my man, and I will continue my support for Rocked. Much Love.
P.S. I miss Regretting the Past but I understand that TH-cam sucks and that Simple Plan can only drain so much of one’s soul

It's stories like this that make me glad I quit my previous job when I did. That job was so stressful and my boss was such a nightmare that I nearly died from a stress-induced stomach ulcer. It didn't help that a combination of crappy circumstances had conspired to prevent me from seeking medical attention for three days. Three days where I still had to work because my boss didn't think this alarming, increasing pain in my chest that got so bad I was unable to sleep was bad enough to justify giving any time off. I'm not exaggerating when I say that was the worst pain that I ever felt in my life. Thank God it wasn't a heart attack.
The real kicker was when I finally got medical attention for my ulcer, which the doctors said was *very* close to becoming bad enough to kill me or cause permanent damage (thankfully it didn't), my boss came up to me and said "So, are you going to get better or am I going to have find a replacement for you?" I didn't even dignify that with a response and handed in my notice the next day.
Then I got a job that doesn't pay nearly as much, but it has a better boss, better work environment, and my mental and physical health is better for it.

In 2015 going into early 2016, I worked at Kmart. At first it was fine enough, but then my original store manager got promoted and was replaced by a passive aggressive manager who had no sympathy and no awareness for those with disabilities. As time went on, because of her among other things I grew to hate my job to the point where I felt like an utter failure and resorted to literally counting down minutes in seconds just to see if that would make the day go faster, a tell tale sign that you hate your job more than anything else. As time went on she began cutting my hours and the hours of other disabled people who worked at my store for no other reason than she low key hated people with disabilities. Following the holidays I no longer obtain hours and a month later I find out that they terminated me for absolutely no reason without even telling me and supposedly it was within their legal right to do so. Even though my job sucks, my mental health sucks even more, and I don't make enough to move out of my parent's place... I'm at least lucky in the sense that I'm able to push back a little when my employers get too unreasonable. For the past few years, I've also been trying to stand up for my co-workers when they're being mistreated. It's not much, but it's important to me.

Being honest, I've been 100% where you're at and most employers these days are pretty shitty. I know I'm just a lowly viewer right now but if things end up going the way I think they will, hopefully I'll be in your position soon (minus the MBA part, mad respect for that brother!). You got this! You'll definitely have more time for you (and yes, benefits in the US suck ass). I'm personally planning on becoming a content creator very soon myself (even at my old age... I'm pushing 50... it's never too late).
Keep it up! Proud of you!

What an inspiring story! I was fortunate enough to find a much better place to work last year, and I was being treated the same exact way at my previous job to what you described. It was demoralizing to say the least. To see somebody actually break out and become a full-time creator I say hats off to you. It's funny because the way I found your channel was on the similar channels list in my analytics - though I am nowhere near your viewership. I was just analyzing the "competition" so to speak when I came across this. This one really hits home and I wish your channel much continued success. New fan and follower here - keep up the great work!

Thank you for posting this video and congratulations on your positive steps. I know how hard it is trying to turn a passion into a sustainable living. I'm currently trying to do the same thing with my music. My day job can crush me sometimes and it sucks that I have to dedicate so much of my waking hours to working for the man and commuting. It can really be hard to do anything after a 12hr day doorstep to doorstep. Keep going bro. Every story like yours is an inspiration. Much success to you!

A little of my story. I moved to the US cause I couldn't find a job where I lived. I started working in a BK first which wasn't bad considering that the bk I worked in was the chillest place and all the manager asked was to keep it clean and maintain freshness or whatever. Then I got a job in Amazon Warehouse... it was bad. Insomnia is a constant problem for me but I dont like working all night cause my anxiety is incredibly strong at night and I prefer being at home relaxing. So it was either afternoon shift or morning. I was given a morning shift and it sucked :3 I worked for 10 hours on 5 hours of sleep on "good nights" and 2 to 1 hour of sleep on bad, and that is if I got sleep at all cause YES I worked without any sleep at all too. You can't slack off, you have 5 minutes minimum in bathrooms and if you took more they would question you. You had 2 thirty minute breaks to sit and eat and that was it, and you had to do A LOT of heavy lifting (50 lbs or max for 1 person). Needless to say my sleep depravity and constant overworking made me.... very suicidal. Waking up I wanted to cry, my body felt numb and it was just horrible, I had thoughts of me killing myself and I sometimes even had plans of it. I had to hum music to myself (Slipknot, Kamelot, Rammstein, etc.) To keep myself sane cause NO YOU CAN'T LISTEN TO MUSIC WHILE SCANNING STUFF OR ANYTHING AT ALL. I started treating myself with a psychologist and honestly that helped me get through it until finally my application for Walmart was accepted and I swear that I almost cried in front of a bunch of Amazon workers. I left work the next day and it was the best decision I made. I get paid less but I honestly don't care. Money is not worth your body or happiness.

I did just this almost 2 years ago.
I was an HGV driver working 10+ hours a day 5 days a week.
Unappreciated and underpaid(for the hours I worked) I started making a plan to get out about 10-11 months before I handed my notice in.
Even then, when I handed in my notice I didn’t actually have a job to go to, just a registration with an employment agency.
4 days after I left my job I was working somewhere else.
It’s not perfect and doesn’t pay as much, but I have more time for myself which is more than I could say about my previous job.

I quit my call center job back in February. They’d promoted me two weeks prior to my putting my notice in, but my old team was so understaffed that their “solution” for my leaving that team was to have me work both my old position and my new position at the same time until the new training class finished (and even then there wasn’t a guarantee that they’d be able to fill my old position because turnover during training was high). I was essentially working two jobs for the price of one and underperforming in both as a result. All of this could’ve been avoided if they hadn’t let go of a whole bunch of people during the start of the pandemic. Because they let go of a bunch of people, they started expecting those who were left to do more for the same amount of pay. Needless to say, my depression became just as bad then as it was when I was working in retail (e.g. I thought about killing myself at least twice a day every day). I made sure I had enough money saved up beforehand so I could take all the time I needed to improve my mental health. I’ve been happily unemployed for almost half a year now and have been working on my childhood dream of writing a book. I started exercising more too because now I have the time for it. I’ve lost 10 lbs since quitting my job and my mental health is better than it’s been in almost two decades. So yeah. Fuck capitalism and fuck corporate America.

I really needed to see this. This video has certainly inspired me and hopefully many others to look elsewhere. Well done for finding the courage to walk away from what sounds like a disgustingly toxic work environment. I was in a similar situation a few years back and managed to finally escape to start a new job (my current job) which I really enjoyed to begin with. Over time, however, the work environment there has become increasingly toxic and certain people I have come to realise are very difficult to please and work with. Deja vu situation. The pandemic hasn't helped things either. I think I need to leave and find a workplace where I feel valued and work with people I can easily get along with. I've come to the end of my tether and dread going in every day.
Anyway, enough from me, good luck and all the best with everything! 🙂

This has to be the most unexpected badass f****** video I've ever f****** seen in my f****** life! Sorry for f****** cussing, but that was amazing, inspirational and helpful!!! I just found this channel today and was already impressed by the extensiveness of its content and how some videos deep dive into the theories of music. 💯🎓✊🏻 Then after exploring the channel further, I found yet another gem: this video. I just want to say that I commend you for taking a leap of faith while taking the steps to further your education and going after what means most to you! 👏🏻 AND on top of that, sharing your story has not only been enlightening and inspiring, but you pointed out what is truly wrong with corporate America and stood up to their injustices in a superior fashion! ✊🏻 There aren't many other words I can say to express how f****** cool I think that is other than "F*** Yeah! That's what's up!" 💪🏻👏🏻✊🏻🤘🏻
Needless to say, I am now a subscriber 😆
    Thank you!!!

Hey man, I only recently discovered your channel and in the past few weeks or so I’ve watched almost every video. I’ve worked horrendous jobs to the point of severe mental instability and it’s kept me from doing what I have always wanted to do which is a career in media and content creation. Even when working a non-career job that treats me better and gives me a better life, it’s still a rough climb to get to the point where you can do what you want to do. Seeing this video, even a few months after its posting, is something I needed to see to keep trying. Thanks for posting this!

I’ve been planning to leave my job to find a better one. Currently in limbo because I’m waiting for an interview reply for the past 2 weeks. I love my co-workers but my job doesn’t work for the current work at home pandemic life, I need my family and they are right there and I can’t spend my time with them because my schedule and on top of that, the pay is not worth my health or my family’s health. Knowing that it’s hard to get a job during the pandemic makes me feel like I’m stuck but I know there’s an opportunity elsewhere even if it’s not what I love. Changing to a more stable job that has more regular hours will help me and my family do better and even pursue what I do love after my family. Thank you for sharing this video. It brings me hope and inspiration to not give up. And congratulations for being able to do this step. It is going to be worth it as you said. And good luck with your MBA,

I quit working like 3 years ago. I hated all of my jobs. My first job was literally 86 to 100 hour weeks. In the worst conditions you could imagine. A constant fear that I could get electrocuted, or even worse catch cancer (still could happen in the future) but so so so thankful for my awesome wife who make triple what I did. Even with 3 kids, well 2 and 1 on the way but she told me quit, stay at home with the kids and ill work. It's worked beautifully for us and I couldn't be more happy in life and my depression and anxiety has been better. I have time for therapy and meds and have my bipolar disorder under control. Like he said you are better than just a paycheck and some benefits that aren't that good!

Didn't want to learn another brand new way of doing things, so I left on my own terms. My mom quit one of her jobs because her boss was rude and lashed out at her saying “If you’re going to cut your hours here but still work full time at your other job I won’t work with you.” The thing is, my mom never said anything about cutting her hours at one job and still working more at her other job. In fact the job she quit was her full time job, and the other was just a part time job. The reason she wanted to talk to her boss about her hours is because she was scheduled to have “her parts removed” as she put it, so she wanted to let her boss know so they could schedule her accordingly. Her boss would say things like “No one cares about our store more than I do” but then when she wanted help from him he’d say “I don’t have time for that. I have too much to worry about at my real job”.🙄
