      I was reading through various comments about this video and I just now had the thought that it would be helpful to see a list written out like you mentioned, and then I saw your comment! This could be helpful for many ppl for many different reasons. Some ppl are visual learners and it may stick better if they see it written down. Others who don't live in the tech world may need the repetition of referencing something written down multiple times before they will remember or accept the change (change, in general, is hard for most ppl, and maybe even more so when dealing with technology that often changes quickly anyway). Then there's also ppl who watch a lot of videos to educate themselves and they may not remember which video they saw the information they need in. Like if I watched this video today and made a mental note that I could use the Aurora store instead of the GooglePlay store once I have a deGoogled phone, but then a few months down the road (after watching hundreds more videos) when I'm actually taking action to start using my deGoogled phone, I may be sitting there trying to remember what the alternative store was called or even where to find the video or channel that I previously saw. Basically, I don't want to have to remember all the useful information I learn, but I want to be able to have quick access to the information at a future time when I need it.

    Quick question: If the apps run in the phone, and had to require access to the OS in order to check for things like location, device ID, phone network, address book, etc. Why doesn't the OS provide a list of permissions available to the app? Like a sandbox where the app can only see what the OS grants them to see. I though that was the way mobile apps work, I don't see why using Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or TH-cam could compromise your privacy on the phone if they only know your current IP and sign-in information. Can you elaborate on that?

    • @stevejohanson4133

    Rob Braxman Tech,
    You mentioned that you needed a Google Authenticator specifically for 2FA on Google products.
    I have mine set up with a Yubikey, which does not require the Google Authenticator app at all.
    If you find that you NEED the Google Authenticator app, you can always run a virtualized Android system like Bluestacks or LDPlayer just for the 2FA.
    I did this for about two years when my previous phone was on its last leg and was about to break. I didn't want my 2FA tied to a phone that would break any minute (held together by duct tape, microSD card was superglued in, battery swelling, and the back panel was nearly off).
    If you don't like the idea of the Bluestacks or LDPlayer due to privacy concerns, you can then run them on a virtualized Windows OS behind a Whonix gateway.
    I hope this helps you get rid of having to carry around a Googled phone.

      @blankpage9277 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Even with cash, the time and location that the card is purchased is known. They need to be activated to work, so they will be treceable in that regard. They will not necessarily be tied to an identity, and you could wear a mask, choose a different store/town you buy it in, but when you load your phone with its service data it will still be tied to the time/place the service was purchased. Unless you are hiding from the government though this info will probably not be used to find you, however. Most companies have easier ways of tracking you than this.

    • @carly09et
      @carly09et 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      By definition No!! :) for a phone to work it has an international standard com protocol ... This allows all telecoms to track when the phone is powered. If you add a SIM the tracking becomes automatic as the SIM links the phone hardware to the phone & the service provider. The cost of breaking this is high. If you add 'apps' the number of service providers increases per app - locking this down is hard as each app provider is mining you. The minimization of available information is a goal here but anonamty is impossible. :(, at networks need an identity to work & the identity is persistent. The cost benefit is what needs consideration here as anon communication is IMPOSSIBLE, you can only raise the cost of breaking the offuscation/cryptology.

    • @robbraxmantech
      @robbraxmantech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Like I said in the video, it's a standard phone. Phone and texts work normally so it works with all carriers that were originally supported by the phone

    • @robbraxmantech
      @robbraxmantech  2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Phone support is hardware (Cell Baseband Modem) so that choice is not part of the OS but part of whatever the manufacturer created. Some modems (mediatek) do not work with Verizon. Only Qualcomm works with Verizon. Otherwise all carriers in the world are the same. Verizon is the only exception.

    Laptops are just as easy to control and monitor via GWS.
    All you need is firebase, android for devs, chrome, google cloud....
    You then can stack it with as many libraries and other cloud services with certificates.
    Think you can do a factory reset , wrong. Just set up a vm at boot with pub sub or i/o for persistence.

    Not being particularly tech savvy, I wonder if a de-Googled phone being serviced by anyone besides Rob Braxman could result in it becoming un-de-Googled. Do standard OS updates cause problems? And when do you know if an app's permissions will mess up your hard-won privacy. Do these phones come with sufficient instructions for neophytes?

    u can degoogle all u want but as soon as u go on line through home wifi you are done.
    or simply having your phone ON during night is going to tie you to that address cause that's where u sleep.
    before you come home you really need to switch your phone off within 3-5 miles of your home address.
    but these days you can't switch your phone OFF unless you remove the BATTERY. even then it may have enough charge stored to beam your location for hours.
    that's when foil wrap and metal box go into place

    • @robbraxmantech

    1) if i were to switch to a degoogled phone would I regain the ability to record my phone calls again?
    2) in spite of having phones that had VoLTE capability, like myself, everyone I know who regularly always used unlocked global phones with our carrier just recently had to switch to a dedicated carrier based phone because out VoLTE phone weren't compatible with any VoLTE systems the carriers were using here, are we going to face any of those VoLTE carrier compatibly issues with a degoogled phone?
