Really cool details of the chop.. it’s amazing that you were able to lay the rear window down with out it being lowered too much. The team is very talented
Bell Glass in Phoenix Arizona just cut down my laminated windshield 2 inches with no difficulty. It is perfect to my line. It was not expensive and they have been doing it for years.
@@anthonymaniz9896 since i live in Phoenix there was no shipping. The cost was $200. There is a possibility that the windshield would break wrong and I understood that risk. I actually had him do a second one that I keep in the shed in case of disaster. Good luck with your chop, pal.
My windshield was for a Cobra sized speedster. I still have the extra shipping box. If your class is not that unique from a more modern car he told me that some folks send him a very accurate paper template and have the local auto glass dealer take him the new glass in a shipping box. He cuts it, replaces it in the original box and sends it to the customer. This way the customer only paid once for shipping. Maybe i can help if you go forward. Another thing i have done that i think is a REALLY good idea is putting clear film on both sides of the chopped windshield. The film at least tries to minimize chips. I told a buddy about this and he filmed his plexiglass panels with absolutely amazing results. The film adhesive somehow eliminated tiny scratches that had inevitably appeared over several years of very careful cleaning. It was amazing.
Great video! Now everyone can see where High School Trigonometry can be very useful. Do you recommend mig or tig welding of metal panels? I only own a mig welder.
Hi, I'm a DIY person have been doing cars for a long time and I have bought a 39 Chevy coupe and want to chop the top my self. Can you give me any suggesting on how to go about it.Thanks Harvey
Average? hmmm... well they're ALL over the place depending on what you're working with in the car and the car's shape itself. This chop went smoothly, and we planned so hard on it, but they don't always go that smoothly, HAHA. It really is a case-by-case deal for us at least.
FYI, the math he explains at 11:00 is wrong. Ya kinda know what he’s trying to say, but 2 inches would only net you 1.4” chop at the front. I measured my A pillars and they are 45degrees. 2”x.707 = 1.4” Anyone attempting this chop, (I’m in the middle of doing it) 2” wide masking tape on the A pillar and the B pillar, gives you a nice rake on the roof line. The filler piece above the door, is about 1 3/8”... just like the distance the a pillar went down, that’s the same amount the roof comes forward.
Just thinking it would look nicer if roof was stretched a couple of inches to get rid of the awkward fill in panel from the trunk lid to the rear screen? The ratio of upper body to lower body has to be maintained.
Clean chop definitely worth it for looks , why is it all 40s and 50s cars the roofs are so ugly and bulbous like that I swear every one of them needs to be chopped

I love hot rods (worked at a classic car shop for several years) BUT : there should be thought given to a stop to chopping/channeling these few original cars left. You cannot undo this. Like heritage homes ,these should be limited so as to save remaining specimens-just a thought.
Make it look more modern?.....buy a modern car then there is going to be nothing original left in years to come they will be trying to do roof lifts not chops
