    Gosh I've so missed Mumford interviews! I fell in love with Marcus again. Love these guys so much and even though their new record isn't going to be the same, I support them and their new ventures.

    R.I.P banjo. The folk rock elements are why I love these guys. With that gone it'll take something pretty spectacular to win me over with this 'new sound'

      Dirvinator Me too. Mumford = mumford, but I rather hear the 'old' music. That's what made them very nice.

      Tom van Steenis Dylan went electric and it was brilliant, people didn't like it at first but it free on them...the thing that shocks me is no one seems willing to give it a chance, the band has not changed at all same 4 guys. Same song writers, same make up. I Think the problem is a lot of fans thought they were only folkys but they aren't if you have looked at the bands they play with and toured with before the sonic revolution...like Haim, dawes, ed Sharpe mag. Zeroes. All very different, this is just a different sound. I am sure they will be very interchangeable. Just let them do what they do.

      Rule #1 of favorited bands. NEVER get comfortable with an album's sound. Because every album it'll either be similar to the last, or completely different. In this case, completely different. Who knows what we'll get next time.

      Robert Mechling To compare Dylan & Mumford....ehhh not buying it. I'm not giving up but I think 'the man' got ahold of this bands team if you will, and said "hey boys, here's how to make even more $$$" .. just my take on it.

    they have to change at least a little as to avoid becoming repetitive. they have said that the acoustic instruments will be back and they want to try something else. people arent even giving the album a chance: only 2 songs are out and people are saying rubbish like "R.I.P. mumford and sons" as if the whole album will be exactly the same! there will be variety not just what we have heard so far! at first i wasnt sure on the new songs but they have grown on me alot!

    I loved the banjo like most, but there new album is astonishing still. Let's remember the banjo doesn't represent Mumford & Sons, only Marcus, Ben, Ted , and Winston do that.

    I can't see how the record company didn't have a shoe in on this change in sound. I mean, they were doing what they loved (folky type tunes) and banking big time. That's my take on it, it already happened with a few other bands that I loved. Once big brother sees a band that has good looks, a singer with a great voice, swagger...etc. the big shots somehow flash their dollar signs at the artists and just like that, another band loses their identity.. becomes another shitty band on Kiss radio

    • @brianmarek9090
      @brianmarek9090 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'd like to add that I will not give up on Marcus because he has that talent to make a great acoustic album perhaps..next? The banjo is only part of this change though, they looked like big time pretty boys on SNL, I never got that vibe before that performance

      Brian Marek With where they are at as artists, the demand for new material from them was really high. They could have released an album of animal noises and synth drums and it would have made money. If a band can get through the first few albums with a label, and are successful, the label will give them more and more liberty. Think about John Mayer, he did 3 or 4 albums super successfully, playing by the labels rules and not deviating too too much from the norm, then the trio album happened, totally different from the pop stuff, it didn't sell a billion units but the follow up album to it was his biggest to date. M&S said themselves that the folky type tunes were just where they were at at the time. They are growing, and changing and reworking. I'm excited to see what happens next for them.

    Marcus is working on a hip hop project with Kanye Wests producers and you all honestly think their changes are good?!?!?!?! They are intentionally changing to make more money in the top 40 demographic. This is fundamental change. Ridiculous. They sound just like everyone else. That isn't growth. Its rehashing the same Brit pop band. American alt band that's been released for the past decade. They left the only soul behind with the banjo. Makes no sense. I can't support it. I respect their right to change but it makes me sad. I'm officially done.

    • @elizabethholt4856
      @elizabethholt4856 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      No. I think it is ridiculous to see a talented band sell out to that level.

      Elizabeth Holt Really want bring up The Black Keys last album, Coldplay through the years, Metallica past the Black Album in 1991 as two examples

    • @elizabethholt4856
      @elizabethholt4856 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can list many other examples. Just didn't think Mumford would be another one. They sounded like them. Now they sound... Just like every other top 40 mainstream group out there.

    • @elizabethholt4856
      @elizabethholt4856 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ted basically said they've wanted a change for a long time and are pursuing this. Doubtful. Its okay for them to change, but okay for me to no longer financially support the literal downgrading of themselves to sound just like the rest of American Alt and even Top 40. It is changing fundamentally just to find anew demographic which lets face it, top 40 American Alt sells more than Folk. They just aren't special anymore. Hell, the new songs sound just like what Marcus did with New Basement Tapes. So he literally borrowed, that is no way original. They sound like everyone else and it makes me sad to see that. Bring on the next Chris Martin: Marcus Mumford. Can't wait to see him rolling up to the Grammy's on Jay Z and Kanye's arm like Chris. It is all a question of taste I suppose. I believe this helps degrade music further. Music today is terrible because bands like Mumford who are talented continue to "change" embracing Top 40 culture. To see a classically trained drummer like Marcus embracing beats and autotune, *laughable*

      Elizabeth Holt Haha ALL MUMFORD HAS TO DO IS PUT RIHANNA ON A SONG AND THEIR TRANSFORMATION WILL BE COMPLETE. Best thing I've read in a while Elizabeth. They are too talented to embrace rubbish. More power to them, make the money in Top 40 Mumford, but they had to know they'd lose the respect of people who were fans because of their original sound. It wasn't traditional folk but it was their own thing. You could hear, "that is Mumford." Now, nothing special.
