Lore dump: akatosh isn't the god of magic he is the god of time and father of dragons. He's basically also the most insane god as he stretched across time itself by all the mortals worshiping him he's also basically the most powerful (in my opinion anyways) as his first born is called alduin you know his job? TO EAT THE WORLD, he's basically a huge flying apocalypse as his main job is to kill the world when the kalpa, aka the timeline, is at its end so it can restart so yeah akatosh is very much shattered you could say and if he ever regains all his mind and parts then theres a problem a very big problem and now everyone is double stuffed orea screwed with cherry whipcream

Also just to put it in perspecrive:
Peryte, the weakest and most forgettable of Daedric Princes, has chosen to assume the form of a Dragon both to sneer Akatosh but also because he chose to take the (twisted) form of the strongest Aedra

A small correction , akatosh is not the god of time, he is time.
The dragons ?, fragments of time, they are seconds, minutes , even hours given form.
Time in the elder scrolls is akatosh moving through atherius.

The fun part about Elder Scrolls lore is that it's written with the same kind of historical ambiguity and myth as our own history.
With records being at best incomplete or at worst being written by dozens of different sources with their own biases without scientific consensus.
Resulting in wildly different interpretations of history depending on whether the historian is a mer, a man or betmer and which of hundreds of cultures and hundreds of factions they belong to and favor.
The khajiti interpretation of the aedra and daedra for example is a riot to read. And so very... cat-ish.
Reading the tale of Pelinal is a lot like reading about King Arthur, Ragnar Lodbrok or the Siege of Troy.
We know now that those should not be read as fact because of their fantastical elements.
But we also know that they're based on real people and events so there is a kernel of truth hidden under all the myths, royal propaganda and religious nonsense.

Ok, so lore correction, the heart of lorkan exists/existed, and it is not fitting inside a tiny human body the thing was/is bigger than a human and / or elf, the thing inside of him is the main point behind oblivion as without that specific jewelry the entire plane of mundus (the world where this takes place) would be allowed to be invaded as it holds drops of akatosh (the god of time and dragons and the only true insane god pretty much) own blood and so yeah thats not a heart of a god that's just very important lore things that if destroyed by someone within the og family line of emperors could transform you into a avatar of akatosh and allow you to box a daedra prince back into his plane of oblivion

Not sure if Michael Kirkbride (the writer before Oblivion) activelly used drugs while writing, but he definetly used them, though most of the crazy stuff described got retconned as bethesda released the games as they wanted a more generic setting because it was easier to make and sell. There were supposed to be flying whales in Skyrim!

aww that makes me sad..when you make a fantasy setting you should try to have fun with it!

No need for drugs. Just extensive isolation and a degree in comparative theology.

Bethesda chose the wussy way and made some shit choices for Skyrim too: what you mean the Falmer has barelly anything besides Dawnguard and their descendants ?

His heart isn't Lorkhan's but you aren't wrong about it being good robot fuel. Specifically reality warping skyscraper sized robots
