There is a long video showing the Atlantic reproduction---the light metallic green one---that I haven't seen in a while. In it, the lanky mechanic who drives the car---"I'm the one who got stuck with it," or words to that effect---said the clutch was "stupid heavy." I like that...

My dad used to work as a mechnaic on this very car back in the 1970's here in england. the car was owned and raced back then by Barrie Price, he even smashed it up once and put it in a ditch! my dad said it was amazingly quick for a car of the era

This looks like it would have run on pure gold, this is my favorite car, I'm not even really a car person that's just captivates me. It's such a shame that this car is so expensive, I wish there would be more of these beauty.

Regardless of what anyone says, Ralph owns one of only two, accepted original cars that still exist. The other being lovingly care for by Peter Mullin, the foremost collector of french art deco cars. These cars simply Don't come up for sale and as a result, are generally considered to be priceless. If I had a guess, they will not change hands anytime soon for less than 70 million dollars. And worth every penny! I would not be surprised to find this car surpassing the 100 million dollar pricetag in our lifetime.

interesting that 2 of the 3 atlantics are in California 1 of the 2 is in Jay leno's collection and the only known true build of the Aerolithe (from true type 57 era parts and magneisium ) is at the Guild of Automotive Restorors here in Ontario Canada when its owner doesnt have it on tour..

Yes, provided of course you could find a road with a long enough straight. Back in 1938 only Germany and Italy had motorways (freeways) and those were rare. Fact is most roads weren't even paved in 1938, and if they were it usually was cobblestone or very rough concrete.

@@TVCHLORD yup. And the second someone sells one for 100 million the remaining ones will jump to 110 or 125 million because of the precedent set by the first sale. So as they continue to trade hands the price just continues to climb.
@@babayega_ that one you are referring to is the lost one, which if found, due to its history etc would be worth 100m, they arent selling atm,rRalph Lauren has owned his since 87 I think, and Mullin still owns his from 13, so cant tell for certain, however I would estimate around 70-90m, taking away the premium for the originality and history of la voiture noire. Especially since the generation of Pre war enthusiasts are dying out, shown by how the "youngtimers" have increased in popularity, i think that the pre war market is now levelled in terms of price. And the pre 80s era is nearing/at its peak aswell.

In the great film noire classic of the same name, what was Laura's car? Some of the prints of the film shown on tv don't show the car anymore.
That movie was set in late 1940s or early 50s. So, not a Bugatti for sure. Gene Tierney herself was beautiful enough for anyone.

Only two in existence today out the 700+ or something they made in '35 to '37, this one and another, can't remember who though, but that doesn't really matter right now. Just that this the most expensive and more importantly the most rarest car..."In The World!" Sorry I couldn't really resist, anyhoo, so precious and so exclusive, if it were a painting, it'd be like the Mona Lisa by Leonardo Da Vinci, it is so rare and special, it truly is One Of A Kind.
Little Known Fact also: In GTA 5, the Z Type I drove from Chad Mulligan for Devin Weston, I drove so carefully at a slow-ish pace to the airport, I did not scratch, ding, dent or nearly crash it, not once. Odd, for even me, considering cars like this I do, slightly by accident, in my excitement sometimes, but no, not once at all. Yeah, I was surpringly careful and gentle as I drove it, just for that little mission, oh and before learning it was that rare and exclusive afterwards as well.

It's not the one, but this is a real Atlantic, though. This car was originally painted in blue, and later bought by Ralph Lauren.

And so on with another sale after that one. I see this car going up to the quarter BILLION dollar price range in the next decade.

Para que os hagáis una idea, un Ferrari GTO del 63 alcanzó los 38 millones de €uros en subasta( y eso, que hay más de 20 unidades y es moderno comparado con el Atlantic).
